So, I purchased a wonderful yarn from KareDan Farming Initiative when they were at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire this past Summer/Fall ... and I use it in my latest project Hogwarts Express ... and what happens??? Of course, I ran outta yarn. Totally my fault, I know.

I contacted KareDan Farming Initiative via FaceBook and they ask me send them a snippet ... which I do ... and hear nothing for a while.

What do I do? I contact them. I contacted them every so often - not pesty-like either. Each time, I got a different excuse with a tinge of annoyance until the final response which also included a ton of condescending undertones. Check it out ...

Really?!?!? All ya had to do was say "no". This place strung me along for months saying they could spin up more of this yarn and then got bitchy with me? Damn it.

Bad, bad, bad.

I guess I'll either go on a wild goose chase for compatible yarn to finish Hogwarts Express or make a new one with different yarn (making sure to have enough of it, too).

every time i finish a project, i ask a member of my family to model it so i can brag a lil on the internet. i get lucky sometimes, but more times than not, i get a mismatch - like evan modelling dylan's hat ... if you don't know me, then this means a 7 year old (now 8) modelling a 17 yr old item. it's way too big, but you get to see the finished product.

well, this problem is solved - for hats anyway. see, a wine bottle works well for modelling hats :)
once both sides have yarnage, close the pom pom maker and cut edges of pom pom. then, wrap a piece of the same yarn around the pom pom and knot in place and attach in the most inconspicuous way (darning needles help tremendously)

here's how to create a new java class in NetBeans ...

first, right click on the Java Source Package (name) and choose New > Java Class... (i could not get a screen shot while making selections - either the program or the os wouldn't allow it)

a new window will appear for you to name the new class as you wish

new java class window in netbeans

either hit [enter] or [Finish] button and the new class file is created and currently displayed

new class file is now the workspace

start programming the new class

new class file with comments

sometimes NetBeans adds things needed only locally and not elsewhere such as "package [name];" at the top of the file. i just leave myself a note to comment out in those cases. if there are oodles of files, you may want to create a makefile to include commenting out the top line using a script.

dylan was asked to do a couple things (repeatedly) last evening and this morning before the rest of the family went on their merry way. well, guess what? yep, you guessed it, things were far from done when i got home from work. i was already in a terrible mood having taken route 22 home -- aside from waiting in traffic through the macungie detour.

anyhoo, on top of the few things dylan was asked to do prior to leaving the house today, he also left a lovely pile of change on the dining room table (finders, keepers). hey, some of it's even wrapped already ... b-o-n-u-s!

just to be completely thorough, the dishes are done is when the sink and dishwasher is dish-free, the sink is scoured and can be walked by without vomiting. unlike the following:

also, the floors in the house should not have dog hair tumbleweeds. we have a broom, vacuum cleaner and roomba to aid in the elimination of zoe's hair ... pick your poison.

dylan's sock ... what a stellar place for this! right in the middle of the hallway floor. looks great there!

i am amazed how much wash this family goes through. what you are about to witness is mt. washmore located in scenic hallway de binkleyville - truly a miracle. imagine how much taller mt. washmore would become adding the piles of wash found in bedrooms throughout the home! mind blowing, i know. yeppers, dyl was supposed to have relocated mt. washmore to basementtown de binkleyville, but apparently, the humongous, overflowing pile of laundry was somehow overlooked today and postponed to some other time that fits into dylan's busy schedule of playing computer games on the internet and wrapping coins.

it has come to our attention that the residents of binkleyville are in dire need of proper linen cupboard organization. lessons on proper towel folding (including bath towels, wash clothes and hand towels) and proper organization will be held in a location to be later determined in binkleyville in the evening of june 23, 2011. stay tuned for specific time and exact location! for those not able to attend, a full tutorial will be posted.

a common feature of dylan's room is how padded the carpets are in some areas. the strategic placement of his dirty clothes adds just the right amount of teenagerness to the decor. i think we have an interior decorator here!

i've saved the best for last - the trash. nothing says "welcome home" like walking into the kitchen through the garage door like a big whiff of delicious garbage stuffed into the trash can! hmmm, hmmm, good. hey, at least the dog didn't get at it today and leave the entire contents of the trash can spread throughout the living room and kitchen.

another view of our collection of disposables is found outside awaiting the day it gets to travel off in the sunset with clifford hill. doesn't the trash compliment the weeping cherry tree?

we thought the garbage looked so great on the right side of the garage that we added more on the left. eventually, the trash will no longer exist in either location, so be sure to catch a view while you can! don't worry, after the trash is gone, a beautiful area where the grass has been choked out for all of us to enjoy for weeks to come will take it's place!

dyl called a lil after i got home from work. dunno if he was responding to my text, facebook post of previous blog or some other txt/chat/email/phone call/facebook post asking that he do so. so lemme get this straight ... he put the towels away and fed the dog and that was all that was asked of him before he left. hmmmm ... i beg to differ. sorry, all i could do was hang up.

i certainly hope you fed the dog
if you plan on having me pick you up from matt's or nina's later today, certain things must be done.

in the house: 1. dishes - dishwasher and sink(s) must be completely empty and clean. this can be accomplished by taking all of the dishes from the sink(s) and loading them in the dishwasher. then, start the load and after it is complete, unload the dishes making sure each dish is clean and placed in its proper area. after the sink(s) are dish-free, simply take ajax or soft scrub and a sponge and wipe the sink(s) and drain(s) with the scratchy part of the sponge and rinse. 2. wash/towels - there is a wash basket full of towels intentionally placed next to the computer you use to game with in the dining room so that you are "reminded" to put them away. bath towels: fold each towel in half the short way and then in half the long way and roll the towel up. there should be an example in the linen cupboard in the hallway if you are unsure how to properly fold the bath towels. wash clothes: fold in half twice and neatly stack on a pile - like pancakes. hand towels: same as wash clothes. bed sheets: do the best you can - we understand they are a bit tricky to fold by yourself. once the towels have been folded, place each towel in its proper location in the linen cupboard. 3. more wash - take *all* of the dirty wash down to the washer and dryer. you should have an empty wash basket after you take care of the towels. empty the dirty wash in the basement with all of the other wash. if the dryer has laundry in it, remove the laundry from the dryer and place it in the once again empty wash basket to bring upstairs. if there is no laundry in the dryer, just leave the empty basket for later. if there is laundry in the washer, this is important, *smell* the wet wash. if it's kinda rank from being ignored in the washer, just add another capful of laundry detergent and wash it again. the water temp should be cold and the load capacity should be max. if there is laundry in the washer and it smells wonderful, put it in the dryer. make sure the lint trap has been cleaned out of the dryer and a dryer sheet is included in each load of laundry you dry. we have a smart dryer, so all you need do to start the dryer after the laundry and dryer sheet have been added to the dryer with a clean lint trap on the "cotton" setting. if there is no laundry in the dryer, just keep the basket downstairs and lemme know later when i get home ... i'll start a new load. 4. dog hair tumbleweeds - first sweep the kitchen and dining room area with a broom. the broom is located outside the garage door on the left side of the door. then, either run the roomba or vacuum. our vacuum cleaner sucks and is on its last leg and the roomba requires periodic de-hairing since our dog sheds so much. also, the roomba may run outta oomph to do the living room, dining room and kitchen. if this happens, use the crappy vacuum cleaner to get the spots it missed. 5. dog - sometime throughout the day, preferrably afternoonish, leave the dog out to pee and poop. she should have food and water in her dishes before you go anywhere.

additional chores will be added as neccessary. remember, you are to also have the yard mowed no later than thursday. when mowing the lawn, make sure to get as close as possible to bushes, trees, shrubs, swing sets, etc.

i nor dad will pick you and any other friends, girlfriends, etc. from anywhere today if these things are not completed and to our satisfaction. chintzy work will not be accepted and is considered incomplete; hence, no ride will be given.

oh, and one more thing i just remembered ... empty the trash from the trash container in the kitchen and bring the garbage bag to the front of the yard where the mailbox is for garabage pick-up tomorrow morning. if the trash bin is stinky, spray lysol in the can before putting in a new trash bag liner. all of the trash by the weeping cherry tree and the coca-cola ice box must be placed by the mailbox for garbage pick-up tomorrow morning -- except the mattress, air conditioner, metal frame, spare subaru tire and any other much-too-large-for-trash-pick-up items.
i <3 thunderstorms ... but only if they are loud, have lots of lightening and preferably both; however, the one and only thing i heard was a small thunder. the "storm" musta hit north or south of us.

i walked zoe before the storm and took some video of her ... awesome dog!

this guy on dual survivor should seriously consider wearing shoes. really. shoes are kewl. there's a reason why someone invented them many years ago (no one knows for sure). in any event, they work, they protect your feet and there's no medal or reward for not wearing them and hoofing through think jungle with all kinds of crap to get stuck in your foot or feet. these guys have knives but one doesn't have shoes? wtf? i'd trade shoes for a knife anyday in the freaking jungle.
knowing that a bunny sound currently in my dice game program isn't gonna cut it ... i looked far and wide 'round the 'net and found nothing i liked ... sooooooo, i created my own.
Assholes

i purchased a shirt for my son, dylan, from zazzle.com back in december ... the shirt was kinda expensive (it was merely a t-shirt) and i bought the "wrong" kind (according to dyl). the shirt was supposed to be a "black ops" shirt - from the video game. i bought a different "black ops" shirt; it was the kinda black ops that has nothing to do with the video game.

anyhoo, during checkout, i swear i unchecked the box to be on thier mailing list. first of all, i think it's kinda cheezy to have it marked by default to begin with (illegal in some states, if not all). yet, i rec'd spam/junk/crap/garbage marketing email from them anyway. i replied "unsubscribe" a bunch of times and also unsubscribed via the web.

oh yeah, on top of all that crap, this company had a coupon. just like i unmarked the box for subscribing to their shitty mailer, i entered the coupon code to expedite shipping for the same price as standard ($8ish bucks... for a freaking t-shirt). low and behold, i saw no evidence of the coupon on my confirmation. i quickly emailed the company after my order and the bastards didn't get back to me for two days. at that point, the order had shipped and their lame-ass response to applying the coupon was that they couldn't and that i should've in checkout (um, duh, i did).

do yourself a favor and NEVER go shopping there.

I work in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania by the intersection of Broad and Wood Street and the Post Office is across the street.

Today, I counted all of the vehicles that drove along on Broad Street (both directions) during each one of my breaks today that (a) had drivers talking on a cell phone, (b) were not gov't or work vehicles (except for one odd-ball worth noting) or (c) for other reasons. Here are the results:

9:00 a.m. - 9:05 a.m. ET: Out of 18, 6 were on a cell phone while driving

11:45 a.m. - 11:55 a.m. ET: Out of 50, 1 on a cell phone while driving and 3 with a nice layer of ice on the hood and roof; a cop car was in the area for the first 14 (cell law may have skewed result); 1 jaywalker; 2 nose-pickers

2:30 p.m. - 2:35 p.m. ET: Out of 33, 4 were on a cell phone while driving and vehicle and an additional 1 was on a cell phone while driving a bigger box truck (first and only one all day)

4:45 p.m. - 4:52 p.m. ET: Out of 71, 5 were on a cell phone while driving; 1 guy was tying his neck tie driving hands-free ... literally

All Times Above: Out of 172, 16 were on a cell phone while driving - not inc'ing the box truck driver; at least 1 was on a cell phone while driving each of the 4 time spans; many that were not on a cell phone while driving had passengers in the car or were older (guesstimating > 65); all that were on a cell phone while driving were solitary in the vehicle

Sad, considering Bethlehem banned cell phone usage while driving in August ... although, they are not enforcing it whatsoever and there are absolutely no signs for out-of-towners to heed instead of common sense.

happy new years everyone!! 2011 ... gonna be a great year :-) i'll be one more step closer to getting a degree. thirteen's my lucky number, so i'd like my degree to be earned by then. thank you, scott, so much for making that possible. there's no way i could have done it without you. 143.

we've had so much fun meeting everyone down at the gun club. here's a cpl pics from this year:

i gotta get one with jess :-)

my new year's resolution is to get another tattoo :-) speaking of which, penny, did you post any pics of your tat? have fun in arizona!

dyl and ev are the best kids in the world. another resolution this year is that dyl have a job starting in the summer. that hyundai will rust before he drives it not helping with the insurance (a phone call i am dreading). third resolution is that evan loses his very wiggly baby tooth. i strongly believe this actually could be done before 2011 ... so, i may need a backup three.

okay, backup three is to increase sales at work to get full-time benefits back. ugh - enuff said.

hmm, i'll stick with 3.

I understand the request for students to have cell phones, etc turned off and "not seen or heard" during class as I believe this "rule" was made because of people abusing usage of this device during class while others are trying to learn. For those that hadn't explicitly stated that they be turned off, they asked that I notify them at the beginning of class of any interruptions from a cell phone. Unfortunately, one is not aware of an emergency phone call. To avoid non-emergency calls during class, I simply turned off *all* notifications to my cell phone. Easy ... problem solved. I would like to request that you rethink this "rule" because of what occurred to me today. It wasn't so easy after all and my muted, motionless cell phone created a bigger problem.

Prior to today and before every one of my classes, I respectfully turned off my sounds and any vibration on my cell phone before entering any classroom. I politely asked my family and friends not to even contact me during times I was scheduled for class. I can not even recall a "missed call" until today. Even if I did, my cell was basically turned off.

This morning, my cell phone was updated and this update changed my "I'm going to class now" setting (among other things) to not include turning off vibration. All throughout a class I had today, I felt my cell phone in my purse buzz. Thankfully to others around me, the noise was not heard - but I felt it.

I became worried nearly the same time a Kutztown police officer visited the classroom I was in to ask if I had my cell phone. I explained I had, but I left it in my purse. I retrieved my belongings and proceeded to another room with the police officer. He asked that I contact the Reading Dispatch in Berks County and let them know it was me.

I began trembling more than I was. I asked the officer what was wrong. I asked if someone was hurt. I'm not quite sure why, but he would not tell me and asked only that I call that number and do as he asked. Before giving me the number, he stated it might be a good idea that I sit down. I had never been so scared in my life.

I spoke with dispatch and they explained to me that my son was taken to the hospital and that I should meet him there. I am a mother of two boys - 16 and 7. Great kids and I love them more than anything in the world. I was also told that they had been trying to get a hold of me for nearly an hour. I apologized and explained cell phones are not welcome in classrooms.

Please reconsider allowing students access to their cell phones during class. I understand that others may have used them in the classroom, well, to be blunt ... stupidly, in the past; however, the ones that do not should not be penalized or felt their cell phone is inaccessible during class. A student should be responsible enough not to use their cell phone for recreational purposes in class. Face it, it's not only distracting, but plain rude. Those who do use them in this manner should be dealt with separately. One (or more) bad apples should not spoil the bunch.

By the way, my son is okay now and we are finally back home. Thank you for taking this into consideration in the future.

Sincerely,
Within the 'linkedlist' class, you will find a struct 'item' privately encapsulating two variables. One variable in the private 'item' class is named 'value' and is assigned the string data type from the std library. I chose string instead of fussing with a native data type like char[] that has less jazz and more code. The second data type is a pointer to the next 'item'; hence the name 'next'. I discovered a new method of declaring a variable immediately following the 'item' struct declaration which I learned is referred to as "direct declare". Essentially, a pointer to the first 'item' created can be declared immediately (give or take your preferred spacing) after the 'item' struct's right bracket. No type is required to declare this variable. If need be, you can declare multiple "direct declare" variables here. If you require more than one "direct declare" variable, the first is followed by a comma and then the second by pointer and name only (again, no type is required). I haven't discovered a limit to the "direct declare" variables you can have nor have I read of any; however, I haven't had a need for more than one. This variable is the most important variable in my implementation of a singly linked list.

The 'linkedlist' class is split between two files, one implementation file and one header file. Within the header file (linkedlist.h), I explain each constructor, assignment operator, destructor, copy constructor, mutator member function and accessor member function in greater detail and have the code wrapped in macros to prevent duplicate definitions. The implementation file (linkedlist.cpp) contains the logic of the above detailed items in the header file (linkedlist.h) and performs all necessary computations, algorithms, data manipulations, etc. For additional readability and easier debugging, each block of code is limited to 5-10 lines; although, I may have exceeded this on one or two by only a cpl lines. Where I believe I can improve on this is marked by the verbiage "to do: improve" and may have "notes:" comments.

Many of the functions were created for a previous assignment and will either be permanently removed or left commented out in assignment 2. Those that are not removed and left for hopeful usage in the next version of 'linkedlist' will at least be converted to using the Template method and tested prior to be commented out. At this point, I am struggling with converting a once functional, error-free and tested 'linkedlist' object with a Template. Also, I managed to compile the files in a Windows g++ and on Kutztown University's g++ *successfully* prior to mangling the code with Template guesses. Earlier tonight, I was fighting with preprocessor directive '#include "linkedlist.cpp"' in the very end of 'linkedlist.h' file without getting compiling errors. Oddly, when I placed '#include "linkedlist.h"' in the beginning of the 'linkedlist.cpp' file only, all was well. At first, I assumed it was a bug in my compiler being on a Windows machine; however, the same result occurred on Kutztown University's machines. Using Command, I ftp’d main.cpp, linkedlist.h and linkedlist.cpp to my student directory (all in one directory). Afterwards, I compiled the files linkedlist.cpp and main.cpp using g++ to create a.out. I did this twice - once for each way the preprocessor directives were placed in the files explained above, each result was identical to its compilation on Windows. I still to this moment do not understand why that happened or how it was resolved; however, if it occurs again, I will not hesitate to write '#include "linkedlist.h"' in the beginning of 'linkedlist.cpp' ... I like it there better anyway and my IDE will stop bitching at me.

I have commented out the majority of the code to only work on one block at a sitting and test rigorously. Sadly, I have nearly every member commented out at this time and am beginning to not like this Template idea too much. Maybe I was influenced by learning one of the primary programmers involved in the C++ Standard Template Library is anti-OOP. Huh? Seriously? Really? Template coding is horrific and less understandable for me right now - maybe that will change once I understand it more.

I've made it public. In Google Maps, just go into your Maps->Layers->More Layers->My Maps, select this map and you will able to layer your current location with this map. I've even labeled the parking lots! All are welcome to use and let others know about this - especially if you find it useful. If you would like to volunteer to collaborate, just drop me a line. I was gonna post an official wish for this on the "Suggestions" board in our Online Services prior to creating the it in Google Maps. Also, please let me know of any errors ... my reference was Kutztown U's .pdf of the campus in a different direction than what I was working with online.
