The thing that made this ceremony so unique was the fact Britta & Oscar decided to do everything their own way. An intimate outdoor ceremony, under a tree in their own garden. Matching tattoos in place of wedding bands. Self written vows, home made food and their closest friends and family around to celebrate.

The morning of the wedding their friends and family put a lot of effort into preparing the day, sound equipment was lent, pots of food bubbled on the stove, men went up and down ladders fixing tarpaulin. Hoards of children went to and from the house, laying out chairs and bringing food. And if the cool looking guests were anything to go by, it was clearly going to end up being quite a party.

The sun shone and the end result of everyone’s hard work was a day that managed to be laid back and heart warming. Ok I admit, I also enjoyed the novelty of it… After all how often do you see the father of the bride in a Rammstein t-shirt?

Typical of Lisa, she had some lovely ideas for the shoot and we incorporated them with pleasure along with a few of our own. We did the session in a few different locations in and around Baldonnell on a glorious day in August. Yes, sometimes hard to believe as the flood waters sweep through your house, but we had one or two good days this year! And here’s the proof.

We had great craic with the two of them. Lisa was a darling and Rohan was a true gent. He reminded us a bit of Clark Kent, in the way that he has two sides to him. By day, he’s a hard working, quiet and diligent gentleman, but put him in front of a camera and he gets super powers.

Lisa designed a kickass invitation for their wedding, using some pictures from their session. It’s pretty cool. Don’t forget to go on over to Bride & Joy’s delightful little blog anyway where you can read what she had to say about the photoshoot too.

Their wedding was a terrific combination of really beautiful and chilled out. And Yvonne, Ronan and their crew were really great fun to be around the whole day.

We think most of the Spanish division changed into their casual clothes just so as to be able to fully let loose in the booth. They didn’t want to rip their dresses or trousers while jumping four feet into the air in front of the camera (… as myself and Aga did at a recent wedding, but more to come of that in a later post.:)

The congregation fell silent, the teething baby at the rear of the church even sensed it appropriate to take a break from crying, and the bride’s eyes welled up with tears as she anticipated the two little words which were to make the man facing her, her husband. “I will”, exclaimed Jose. Now, we all know that the Spanish are a laid back race and that Jose might well have meant that he would one day get around to making an honest woman of her. But! What we think he meant to say was “I do”. The crowd had a bit of a laugh at his mistake and even the screeching baby seemed to let out a chuckle at Jose’s expense. Thankfully though, it was literally the only thing that went ‘wrong’ for them that day. At least as far as we could see!

Jose, a charming gentleman from Spain and Nora, a delightful dame from Tipperary tied the knot (despite Jose’s attempts otherwise:) on a lovely Summer’s day in July. Their guests included a very lively mix of Irish and Spanish dudes and dudettes.

The reception took place at the Station House Hotel and due to the gorgeous weather, the Spaniards brought over with them, the crowd stayed outdoors for pretty much the whole day. A fun addition to the day’s schedule was Oliver, a crepe guy from Crepes and Craic. As soon as he arrived and set up shop, all the Spanish present seemed to immediately surround him and quickly burst into song and dance.. Kind of like how you might imagine a small African village would react to rain after a 5 month spell of drought or how an Irish community might react to the arrival of a free Guinness stall in their town centre.

Nora, actually grew all the flowers for the wedding, which we thought was ultra cool. Unfortunately the pesky things bloomed about a month before the wedding. Nonetheless she provided all the greenery for the gorgeous blooms she bought on the day. Another nice touch was that Nora’s dress was made from a vintage pattern, the lace for which she fittingly got from Spain :) She then had Anne Gibney in Rush make it for her.

Come 9 o’clock or so, half of the crowd gradually metamorphosed from wearing suits and fancy dresses to donning much more casual attire, as is the tradition in Spain. Meanwhile the Irish contingent struggled on in six inch high heels, waistcoats, corsets and cumberbunds.

Nora, Jose and their crew were a delight to be with the whole day and we had a great time with them.
