SO EXCITING!! Our little family session, photographed by the sweet and wildly talented Nancy Ray is being featured today on On to Baby. There are so many images I love from our session, it’s impossible to pick a favorite.

To celebrate Mother’s Day and our own moms’ first year as grandmothers, I turned most of the images into a photo book for them. I hope they love it as much as I do. Here are just a few of my favorite pages.

Thank you so much to Nancy for giving us the best gift ever – immortalizing this fleeting and precious time with our little boy. And thank you to the lovely ladies at On to Baby. I am totally flattered to be on their amazing blog!

DIY Sola wood eco-florals

In honor of Earth Day, I’m sharing this easy tutorial for creating your own chic, eco-friendly bouquet. Sola wood flowers, sometimes also called tapioca wood flowers, are an entirely natural product derived from the tapioca plant. They can be purchased here.

For this bouquet, I used a mixture of sola daisies with thistle centers, shell flowers and tallow berries.

Because the flowers are soft, they are quite easy to pierce with floral wire and arrange into bundles.

Once you’ve created several bundles, use floral table to bind them together. Arrange your bundles into a bouquet and wrap the stems in a ribbon of your choice.

Sit back and marvel at your creation! I had a few stems leftover and they were just enough to create a matching boutonniere. And the best part – your bouquet will live on indefinitely. I love the idea of tucking it into a bookshelf as a sweet memento of your wedding day.

I am completely and totally infatuated with the work of artist Elsa Mora. I mean really…have you ever seen anything so incredible done with something as humble as paper?

Sweet table styling from Washingtonian Bride & Groom

More sweet treats for your eyeballs from Washingtonian Bride & Groom. I love me a good sweet table and these are beyond gorgeous. I love all the color palettes but something about the citrus one really makes me happy. I think it’s that makeshift orange tree and how the shape is echoed in the polka dot linen.

Circus themed Bridal Styling by Washingtonian Bride & Groom

This has to be some of the most gorgeous editorial styling I have ever laid eyes on. The Winter/Spring 2010 issue of Washingtonian Bride & Groom has been sitting on my desk with this BEAUTIFUL spread dog-eared for many, many months. I finally got around to scanning my favorite images and if you haven’t seen the magazine, you are in for some serious eye candy. Not only are the gowns breathtaking but so is the photography and overall styling of this circus themed shoot. I could look at these all day. So much inspiration on every page, I seriously recommend picking up a copy the next time you’re in the DC area.

I don’t know who’s doing the styling on these shoots but they are brilliant. Check out this great behind-the-scenes video of the making of of their latest fashion shoot in the Summer/Fall issue. It looks like A TON of work but it also looks super fun and the result is awesome.

Modern Trousseau opens in Charleston!!

You’ve heard me gush on and on about how much I love the Modern Trousseau bridal line here, here and here. I know…you’d think I was on the payroll with how much I post about them, but I’m not! I just can’t get enough of designer Callie’s perfect melding of classic silhouettes with unique and modern touches. I’ve long believed it is the perfect embodiment of today’s Southern bride.

So now you know why I squealed with delight when I received word that they are opening their first ever showroom outside of NYC in my absolute favorite little corner of the South – Charleston, SC!!!!

For me, no other city epitomizes the charm and beauty of the South like Charleston. And Modern Trousseau’s new boutique on King Street is just about the perfect melding of two of my most favorite things. Not only will the entire Modern Trousseau line be available for you lucky brides to try on but there will even be gowns exclusive to only the Charleston location. Engaged: Erin + Dylan in Chapel Hill, NC

Erin and Dylan are getting married this coming May at the Frontier Culture Museum in Virginia. But before the big day, they celebrated their love for one another and Carolina blue in Chapel Hill. Robyn Van Dyke was on hand to capture some wonderful stolen moments on the very picturesque campus. And she should know about picturesque moments in Chapel Hill…you might remember we featured Robyn’s own gorgeous wedding in Chapel Hill last year. Well she’s back, this time behind the camera. And from the look of these incredible images, I’d say she’s got a great career in the works!

Introducing Baby Knox!!

I’ve been a wee bit preoccupied lately. So I thought I’d share what’s consuming all my time and attention.

Yes it’s true! Our beautiful baby boy arrived 3 days early. I’ve never been so tired and happy in my life. He’s so sweet and his wonderful tiny baby smell is completely intoxicating. I am, in a word, smitten.

I’ll be blogging all about my adventures with him over on my nesting blog Honey + Fitz. Come on over!

Real Wedding: Meredith + Kevin in Raleigh, NC

Meredith was sweet enough to share some images from her recent wedding to high school sweetheart Kevin. After dating through college (at rival universities), the duo got engaged in July of 2008. Meredith fully embraced the wedding planning experience, taking the next year + to plan their dream wedding. As a Carolina native, she knew a big, formal wedding was just the ticket inclusive of all their friends & family. Before 175 guests, they tied the knot at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Raleigh where the bride’s grandparents were charter members some forty years prior.

After the ceremony, guests were treated to a ballroom reception at the The State Club. The room was transformed by dazzling pink uplighting, glimmering romantic candles and gorgeous floral centerpieces by Fresh Affairs. As an added touch, Meredith set up a heritage table at the reception where they displayed portraits spanning generations of weddings in their newly joined family.

From Meredith:

“It was wonderful to see the guests enjoying our wedding but also taking a moment to recall other celebrations of love and marriage. At the end of the evening filled with love and spent with friends & family, we make our grand exit amid a sea of sparklers and were whisked away in a limo and jetted off to Paris to being our honeymoon.”

I can’t envision a more perfect end to what I’m sure was an unforgettable day for the two of you. Congratulations and thank you for sharing such a special moment with White Thread and our readers!
