Good news!! Rik has earned his AT sign off and is indeed going to tow us this Saturday 9/18/09.
Currently Sunday towing is not solid yet but we'll post something as soon as we know. Stay tuned!
Let's all get out there and get some airtime before it's too late this season.

Today is a very sad day for WWHGC members. Our good friend and fellow pilot Roy Messing passed away this afternoon as a result of a hang gliding accident this past Monday. Roy had released after entering into a mild lock-out but did not regain control in time to set up for a proper landing.

Roy's family commented about how much he was enjoying his retirement now that he'd found hang gliding and all his new hang gliding friends at WW. Roy loved to fly and if you fly at WW you surely know that.

We will all miss you Roy, and your kind, helpful presence at the airport. It's your turn to soar in the best lift now buddy! Have a good one!

Thinking About New Launch Carts

There have been issues arise during this season over launch and transport carts and where on the airport they are located. Add to that the scarce means of transporting carts and gliders and I think we can say we need more means of transporting wings and pilots at TO.

Without taking names at this point, I would like to ask able-minded pilots to begin thinking along the lines of cart designs and supplies. We should have discussions to prepare for next season.

Twin Oaks Party This Weekend

I've been away from the computer for a while now, only to come back to disheartening news re flight operations this Labor Day weekend. Sorry, I honestly don't know what's going on.......YET!!

I do know however, there will be food and fire on Sat night and possibly Sun night. Let's get together for a couple evenings to say "hello" instead of "I'm next in line!"

Congrats to Kris Grzyb for flying a 159 Mile FAI Triangle from Whitewater on Thursday! Several other pilots got great airtime as well.

Memorial Day Fly-In

Currently, the forecast for Saturday is a chance of rain with light wind from the north. Sunday shows slightly stronger wind from the east with a lower chance of rain.

Because of the unclear rain forecast, the plan for our fly-in is as follows: The XC, flour bomb drop, and spot landing contest will be held both days! You pick what day or days is best for you.

As for the cookout/fire/party, the current plan is for SATURDAY NIGHT, unless we get rained out.

I hope you all can make it one or both days.

Storage Trailers

Members,

This Friday Paul's West semi trailer is going to be lowered to the ground. The club has tentative plans to lower it's storage trailer at the same time, if the price is right. Won't know if it will work out until Friday AM sometime.

We know there are some fragile wings in the East trailer, so they will be unloaded prior to any work being done. If anyone is out for possible air time this Friday, please be prepared to lend a hand unloading the trailer. Your flying buds will appreciate it very much.

The 2009 Season Has Started

For most of us the pre-season rituals are over. If you couldn't make any of the clinics and still want the peace-o-mind of a freshly packed chute, contact Mark F or Terry K and they'll be happy to help you out.

The flying season has kicked off earlier than normal with students, Discovery Flights, and solos already happening. The flying has been VERY good so come out and experience it. This past weekend was stellar for thermals, or just soaking up some Vitamin E from the sunshine.

Joel is at the field most days but give him a jingle when you feel like getting off the couch and into the air. There's no better way to spend an afternoon than with friends and your wing. See you at the field

Last Two Chute Clinics For 2009

Tentatively we have March 21 & 22 open for our last 2 Chute Clinics (9:00 - 5:00 each day). Please post to the club forum if you plan to attend either of those dates. We'll cancel the last two clinics if there is no interest.

Chute Clinics and Self Glider Inspection

The first two Chute Clinics are in the books and 16 chutes are in their Diaper Bags. This Saturday and Sunday we have reserved rooms at the Lincoln Elementary School for you if you want to disassemble your glider to inspect it. There is no charge this weekend March 15 & 16. Doors will open at 8:00 am and go until 5:00 pm. Sunday will be the same so you can leave your glider in the gym over Sat night if you like.

Tentatively we have March 21 & 22 open for 2 more Chute Clinics (8:00 - 5:00 each day). Please post to the club forum if you plan to attend either of those dates. We'll cancel the last two clinics if there is no interest.

Joel is readying the tug now - may be ready for this weekend - if you need some fresh air, call Joel at (920) 350-AERO

Clinic Times - All Dates

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Hope my first equipment pre-flight of the season doesn't go as badly as this announcement has.

All scheduled Chute Clinic and Glider Inspection dates are the same: 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Chute re-packs will be same as last year, $30.00. What price for peace of mind eh?

The 2009 Chute/Safety Clinics location and dates have been finalized. Note the new location.

Location: Lincoln Elementary School in Whitewater
Clinic Dates: March 7 (club meeting) & 8, 2009
Glider Inspection/Maintenance Date: March 15, 2009
Clinic Dates: March 21 & 22, 2009

Spring Clinics Coming Up

There are 5 dates to note coming up in March:

March 7 & 8 will be the first 2 Chute Clinics, combined with a club business meeting
March 15 will be an added day for glider inspections and pre-season maintenance
March 21 & 22 will be the final two Chute Clinics (if needed) prior to start of the flying season

Meetings will be held at the Washington Elementary school in Whitewater. Please post your intention to attend and date preference, on the WWHGC Forum.

Duck Inn on the 26th at 6:00(ish). Come on out and join us for an

Local Notam In Whitewater

In case any of you are planning to fly over Whitewater in the next few months - be careful, especially over-flying the town at night in your HG!

Joel sent me this notice so please keep it in your dossier because you know what will happen beginning next March.......? Fly safe and fly often.

Joel writes:

There will be a 180' crane erected at the intersection of Starin and Prince streets in Whitewater. It will be lowered to 100' feet at night and will be lighted. It will be in the area for approximately 6 months.

I assume there is a notam on file but have not verified that. You can always check notams with flight service at: 800-wx-brief. Probably a good idea to do that anyway with the possibility of TFR's in this post 911 era.
