Rebecca and Kimball are friends of Jacob and Laura Parry, whose wedding I shot last year, and I was pleased when they decided to ask me to shoot their engagement photos. They are both avid Call of Duty fans, and so they brought along their controllers to personalize the session a little bit. We had a ton of fun together, and laughed pretty much the entire time. (I love shooting happy people!) Rebecca and Kimball are both pretty goofy people, and so we got some super silly and fun pictures, along with a lot of traditional style photography. We shot in downtown Salt Lake City, and found a lot of new fun locations as we went around the city.

Ian and Sara

I met Ian and Sara when I shot Ian’s brother’s wedding last summer, and so I was glad that they dropped me a line when they were looking for their own wedding photographer. We headed on down to downtown Salt Lake City for their engagement pictures, and found some really fun architectural stuff to incorporate into the photos. Ian and Sara are both really fun people (their wedding is mythology themed- stay tuned for photos, I have a feeling they will be awesome), and we had some beautiful weather for our session (in contrast to right now, just a day later- it’s snowing like CRAZY!).

Ian and Sara and both big fans of Yoga- I am a big fan of taking pictures of people doing Yoga. :D

A day in the studio- March 13

Ok, so here’s the deal. We’re going to be running a special studio photography day, with 30 minute sessions for $50 (more than a 50% disount) all day Saturday March 13th. That means that for just $50, you will get time with an amazingly talented photographer, and a CD of high resolution photos. Tell your friends, family, frenemies, hair stylists- everyone! … then send me an email at whitneylewisphotography@gmail.com to schedule your own session.

What you get:

A 30 minute photo session of Maternity, Newborn, Child, Individual or Group portrait photos. Groups limited to 3 people. We can also do a head shot session, which are a little different- see below for details.
30 edited photos, on a high resolution DVD
A warm fuzzy feeling knowing that you got a wicked awesome deal. You’ll be able to brag later, I promise.

What to do:

Arrive on time. If you are late, it will affect the quality and number of photos I will be able to provide.
Bring favorite blankets, toys, props, hats, etc. I have a lot of props myself, but if you have something you think would be cool or something that would express your personality, be sure and bring it!
Come to the right address- 2016 Nuttall Dr, Lehi UT 84043. Go the the door down the driveway on the side and ring the doorbell.
Come ready to have fun and get some amazing pictures taken!

What not to do:

Arrive late. Seriously, don’t do it. :)
Bring your family reunion. That’s just too many people.
Bring a knife to a gun fight.

A recent shoot I did in my studio was a head shot session for Kelli, a candidate for Miss Utah. My head shot sessions are a little different than standard portrait sessions- they include 5 different photos, but I do a lot more on the editing above and beyond the standard portraits. Kelly needed a few different photos for the promotion of the pageant, including a few wearing a crown! (a first for me, i admit)

It’s interesting to me that as I go back to locations I have shot at before that I will constantly find new angles and things to photograph that I previously had not even noticed, nevermind the fact that I had already been there a million times. I guess it’s what keeps my job interesting… :)

Shelby’s Bridals

Ok, every now and then things just really work out exactly the way we need them to. As I mentioned in their engagement post both Shelby and Steve are very outdoorsy people, and so Shelby wanted some nice shots for her bridals outdoors as well. When we took the engagements we got some beautiful snow-covered landscapes, and even got a great shot of them kissing in the snow. However, it has been super warm, with no snow to be found, and most outdoor locations have been a little drab to say the least. So when we scheduled Shelby’s bridal photography for last Saturday we really just crossed our fingers and hoped for the best.
There were some projected intermittent flurries of snow, but the probabilities weren’t especially high.

We decided to start the session up in Salt Lake in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and then head down to Provo for a couple outdoor locations she wanted to shoot at. The JSMB went swimmingly, and as we headed down to Provo for the first location we started to see a couple of flakes of snow. Then we started to see some more. Then there was a LOT more. It was coming down heavily, but unfortunately still wasn’t sticking to the ground very well. At this moment I started to get a little nervous. I worried we might get lots of snow coming down on us, making it difficult to shoot, and still not get any pretty ground cover. I commented to Thomas that what we really needed was for it just to snow like crazy for about ten minutes, dump an inch or two on the ground, and then just stop snowing altogether. He laughed and agreed that it would be nice, but I shouldn’t get my hopes up. So we got down to the orchard and started waiting for Shelby and her mother to get there. Once they did we chatted for a few minutes hoping the snow would start to stick/start lightening up. We finally decided to just start anyways, as we were losing light, and brought out the umbrellas.

I guess Shelby’s been living right, or somebody in charge must just like us, because about 10 minutes after we started shooting, the snow just stopped, leaving about 1 or 2 inches of snow everywhere- just enough to turn the orchard this gorgeous pristine white. I kept giggling uncontrollably as I was shooting, because it was just so perfect. Sometimes I just love this job.

To top it off, we decided to head over to Utah Lake to see what kind of colors we might get with the sunset. We ended up with this just incredible blue sky, and the snow just covering the ice on the lake. The only word I can think to describe it is magical.

I’m finally wrapping up the last few sessions that I did for family while we were up in Spokane for Christmas. Free shoots coming after paid ones in the editing priority and all…. so here’s Jasmine. We headed across the Idaho border to this pretty lake for the photoshoot. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was pleased with the scenery. It’s always fun to take photos in new and beautiful locations.

Tullis Kids

This time we got to do a bit of studio photography, as Leah wanted some photos of her little girl in her baby blessing dress, as well as a few photos of her two boys for Christmas cards. Even though we shot this back in December, I’m only finally getting around to posting the photos. I’m very efficient.

We switched up the subject every few minutes, depending on who was feeling cooperative at the moment. There were many bribes involved.
