Whitstable Week Oyster Trophy - who won?

The overall trophy for Whitstable Week is a beautiful Oyster Trophy that comes complete with customised box with a sliding front. The names on the plinth start in 1960 but the winners for 2005 and 2006 are missing. It is a pity not to have a complete record of winners. Can anyone out there remember who the winners were - if you can please let Sally in the office know.

Thanks very much to all those who made the Merlin Open such a success at the weekend. Many competitors commented on the excellent race organisation (in what were very difficult conditions) and the friendliness of the club despite the inconvenience to club members.

The scran bins are clean and free of rotting underwear. Useable clothing has been hung up to air. Everything disgusting is in the bin. Clothes hanging in the ladies' fire exit lobby will be binned after the end of June if not claimed. So will the paired-up footwear on the gents' outside steps. Good stuff from the gents' is in the wooden box under the tea bar stairs.

Whitstable Week - Request from the WW Committee

The Whitstable Week Committee are looking for people to assist in the kitchen during Whitstable Week. We are aiming at simple good hearty fare with the aim of making Whitstable Week a "good value" event.

We need help in the kitchen. This will be running all week with Christine and her team doing their usual excellent job for Breakfast and lunch .

From 5pm every day there will be simple food to buy from chilli to burgers depending on the night. For this we need volunteers. This can be for as much or as little time as you can spare - from collecting and washing up dishes to the preparation or serving of the food (every little will definitely help).

If you think you can help then please contact Fiona : clarkehouse94@btinternet.com or Donna:: donna.legs@btinternet.com. You can also contact Mel in the office who will pass on the details.

Many thanks. Whitstable Week Committee

Also to Mark Barnes and Tom Pygall (standing in at the last minute for an injured Pete Nicholson) who were 6th at the B14 nationals at Plymouth. Well done boys!

Congratulations to Meia and Elin at the Eric Twiname Trophy

The Mirror fleet enjoyed some great sailing at Eric Twiname on day one, with four close races in moderate breezes, with occasional gusts over 20 knots. With no wind and no racing on Day 2, the championships were settled over four races. Harnett sisters, Meia and Elin took home the ET Trophy, with Peter Sedgwick and Ewan Byers second, Helena Pugh and Liam Angrave taking the final podium position. This was also the first qualifier for the RYA National Squad, which saw current members Tom Lovesey and Milly Pugh, battling hard with Alex Lloyd and Jack Moore, both winning two races, with the former pair winning on count back, with Meia & Elin Harnett finishing an excellent third ahead of several National Squad boats.(Extracted from the Mirror class website)

RNLI Pursuit Race

Well done to our own Mark Barnes who beat 70 boats to win the Annual RNLI Pursuit Race in his B14. The event itself was very well organised by Bob Long - four different classes of boats in close contention for first place just goes to prove this. If you want a visual reminder of yesterday's race take a look at http://www.photoblink.com/sailing/whitstpur09/. We are grateful to Tania Samus who was our resident photographer for this event. In fact all participants can pat themselves on the back as we managed to raise approximately £270 for the RNLI. A very successful day for everyone!

Polite Request

I have been reminded by the Harbour Users that our members are still parking in front of the Fishermans Huts opposite the RNLI main entrance. You may not realise this but you are blocking the vents to the fisherman's refridgeration units which causes hot air to blow back into their fridges. As we move into the busy season I would be grateful if you could respect our neighbours' wishes (and tell others) - this is their livelihood and the Club works very hard to maintain good relations with those around us. Many thanks. Melanie, WYC

We have already banked several hundred vouchers last year which will be added to those collected over the next few months. As they say...."every little helps"!!! Melanie.

I apologise as I know this is hardly newsworthy but I would appreciate it if members could ensure "for sale" notices are of a sensible size. I have been inundated with A4 advertisements and there simply isn't enough room. Please also be reminded that notices should come through the office first to be date stamped. I am really trying to keep our notice boards tidy and easy to read! Many thanks. Melanie.
