a consequence to artistic endeavors and compensations such as extended exposure time and increased ISO sensitivity, like breadcrumbs, following the trail left by an entirely preset exposure to the planned creative outcome. Rarely can a photographer claim a true love for this unsightly grain, and rarely is it ever emphasized as opposed to hidden or removed.<br /> <br /> However, one could take an inverse approach to grain and embrace the horrific burnouts, especially in certain experimental approaches, like my own obsession with the intricate behaviors of light itself. One can only see the true face of light by observing it in each stage of its spread, the steps taken for it to reach our eyes and conjure an image, and for this, we see it near its end, at the termination of a thirty-second journey to the lens. Grain is simply a hitchhiker on this excursion, and should be admitted with a certain amount of due respect.<br /> <br /> Without grain, for instance, I couldn't emphasize the light by itself. The image's subject would work to distract and deceive you into believing an alternative motive beyond the study of light's spread through our environments. With grain, the image is fuzzy, dusty, and murky, but at the same time, it is all the more clear.<br /> <br /> <a
