Review: 2012 Kia Sorento SX

One of the many wonderful perks of my job is getting to do reviews and let me tell you, this was my FAVORITE to date!!! I just loved being able to have this Kia Sorento car for an entire week and didn’t want to give it back when I was done. There are so many things that I love about it that I don’t even know where to begin!!!

Let’s start with the some of the mechanical features… The 2012 Kia Sorento SX has a 3.5 L value DOHC CVVT V6 engine, 10 spoke mirror finish alloy wheels and independent front and rear suspension. It gets 20 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.

As far as safety goes, this vehicle is amazing! It comes with dual front advanced airbags, front seat mounted side airbags and 1st and 2nd row side curtain air bags for a total of 8 air bags in all. It will also detect if your child is light in weight and will turn off the air bag that would come out at their face (personally my kids are not allowed to sit up front unless there is absolutely no other choice but in a case where they HAD to, this is a great feature). It also comes with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control system (TCS), electronic stability control (ESC), downhill brake/hill start assist control (DBC/HAC) and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Starting the Kia Sorento was a breeze with the push button start and the thing that I found that I think I loved the most is that you don’t need a key to lock and unlock your doors. You just keep a remote “smart key” in your purse or pocket and it will detect that it is close-by and you just push a button to lock or unlock the doors. That is so much easier than digging through my giant purse to find my keys that sank to the bottom. Also you can NOT lock your smart key in your vehicle, it will beep to let you know and it will just not lock until the smart key is out of the vehicle.

No need to worry about forgetting to turn off your lights and running down your car battery… just keep the setting on “auto” and it will detect when to turn the lights on and off as needed.

I loved that even though the overall size of the vehicle was smaller than my van, it could hold just as many passengers. There is a fold-down and reclining 2nd row plus a fold down 3rd row so in all it can accommodate a total of 7 people. Don’t need the 3rd row for passengers? Fold it down and store lots of stuff in the back !!! And no need to worry about a lack of drink holders, the Kia Sorento holds up to 9 cups (one in each front door, 2 in the front console, 1 in each back door, 2 in a pull-down 2nd row middle console and 1 back in the 3rd row).

One feature that I wish I had in my van is the rear camera display and “warning system” so that if something is behind your vehicle, not only will you be able to see it, the car will beep to let you know. If only I had had this feature in my van to prevent me from backing into a pole and denting my rear bumper 2 weeks after buying it.

Of course having the navigation system w/ SIRIUS traffic and the SIRIUS satellite radio along with the Infinity surround sound audio system was a true luxury. How am I going to go back to just a plain old radio in my van now??? Plus the 2012 Kia Sorento will even come with a complimentary 3-month SIRIUS subscription included.

The kids LOVED the front seat sunroof and the 2rd row moonroof; they thought it was the coolest thing!!! Other fabulous features of this vehicle are the bluetooth wireless technology, heated and air-cooled seats, heated steering wheel, dual zone automatic climate control and rear AC w/ full controls. If you have 2 regular drivers, this vehicle has “2 driver memory seats and mirrors” which will allow you to switch back to your own personalized settings with just a touch of a button.

This 2012 Kia Sorento retails for $35,450 and will come with a 10 year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, a 5 year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty, and a 5 year/60,000 mile roadside assistance.
