Cute little photograph of Kenneth and Florence, probably siblings. Too bad there’s no surname or location to work with. It looks like it was cut out of an old scrapbook (the one’s with the black paper that resembles construction paper). It’s glued on there pretty good so I don’t want to risk damaging the photo to see if there’s anything written on the back. So for now, it will remain a mystery.

No idea who she is, but I gather she was from Canton, Ohio. Even though the photographer’s imprint is damaged, I can make out a C and then an O followed by a period. Since I have other photos from Canton, Ohio, this was my immediate thought.

Searching on the name Vignos in the US censuses, I found an Augustus Vignos in Canton, Ohio, although the occupation had nothing to do with photography, nor did that of his son Alfred. But, apparently, the business they ran, although it dealt with cutlery, also included photography (see the following PDF document that someone put together about Augustus, his business, and photography).

And of course, once I’d already written this post and went to set my tags, I saw that I already had one for a photographer “A Vignos.” And wouldn’t you know, it was from Canton, Ohio.

Now that I look at that I take a look at the other photo, I wonder if they are the same person, #152 being a younger Theodosia Currier. Hmmm. What do you think?

Another photograph by Albert Fowler of Meadville, Pennsylvania. This woman looks very similar to the woman in another Fowler photo. Wonder if they’re related?

The annual conference of the Fox Valley Genealogical Society (FVGS) will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 in Naperville, Illinois. Maureen Taylor, a.k.a. The Photo Detective, is the featured speaker and will present the following lectures:

Identifying and Dating Family Photographs
Preserving Family Photographs – 1839 to the Present
Reading Genealogical and Immigrant Clues in 19th Century Photographs
Kodak Moments and Technicolor Dreams: 20th Century Photos and Films in the Family Archive

Maureen will also be providing 15-minute individual consultation for an additional $30 fee on Friday, September 27.

Registration is $35 for FVGS members, $40 for non-members, and $45 for everyone after September 13. A continental breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee. There will also be genealogy vendors and door prizes.

Very interesting top to this woman’s dress. I don’t recall seeing anything like it before. Unfortunately, there is no identifying information for the woman, and the photographer;s imprint has been tampered with. I can make out just a few letters “Roche,” which could be Rochester I suppose.

Most likely these young ladies are sisters. The photo is mounted on a board embossed with a very detailed and ornate pattern.

No identification for the gentleman in this cabinet card. The imprint reads Fowler, in Meadville, PA. I’m pretty sure it’s the same Albert Fowler I’ve written about before, especially since on closer inspection the monogram in the middle contains an A, an R, and an F. And looking back at another Fowler cabinet card, I see the same monogram that’s on this one. In fact, the imprint is the same, but the board color is different. Seeing as these photos came from the same mixed batch, I wonder if they’re all related.

These photographs were taken by the same photographer, Dowe, and you’ll notice that the same chair is used in both. I can tell by the board and the different style imprints that they were taken at different times. Upon closer inspection, I have a feeling that the toddler in the one photo is also the infant in the other photo, as they both show similar facial features and the same hairline. Here’s a close-up view. What do you think?

I have another picture from this same photographer using the same prop. I believe they were taken at different times only because the photographer’s imprint is slightly different between the two. Here’s a close-up of the imprint from the other photo. See how the font for the address, both street and city/state are different?

I wonder if it’s the same girl, first as an infant, then as a toddler, as they really look similar.

As noted in the first post for this photographer, it is probably George Palmer, born about 1837 in England.¹ He is listed in both the 1880 and 1900 censuses living in Buffalo, New York with the occupation of a photographer.²

This particular photo has a glossy finish and is mounted to a board with a ribbed finish. The photographer’s imprint reads: Fichtel, 126 Bergen Line Ave., Union Hill, N.J. Previous research on this photographer indicates that it is likely Sigmund Fichtel, who was listed in the 1900 census as a photographer, living in Union with his wife Margureth.¹

A lovely lady. I believe the photograph's imprint reads: A. P. Webb Co., 141 & 143 W. Federal St., Youngstown, Ohio. According to the book Ohio Photographers: 1839-1900, there was an A. P. Webb in Youngstown from 1888-1897.¹

Today I stumbled upon another orphan photo blog, Unclaimed Ancestors. This blog, started earlier this year in April is put together by Jodi Bash.

Jodi’s mission is “connecting old photos and memorabilia with the families searching for them.” Kudos to her for starting her blog!

And, since I have found several blog similar to Who Will Tell Their Story?, I have started a Blog Roll, which can be found in the menu bar at the top of this blog.
