Short for Dehydroepiandrosterone, DHEA is the most abundant hormone found in the human body, and is often referred to as the "Anti-Aging Hormone." DHEA is produced by the adrenal glands (located just above the kidneys), as well as by the brain and in the cells of skin, and is the most abundant steroid in the human body.

As newborns, we have an a very high level of DHEA, but within days after birth, our DHEA level drops to nearly zero. Then, as our bodies prepare for puberty, we experience "adrenarche," in which our adrenal glands begin stir to life. At the same time, our DHEA level begins to steadily rise, and continues to rise until it peaks at around twenty-five to thirty years of age.

From that point on, our DHEA level declines at a rate of about 2 percent a year. By eighty, our DHEA level is only fifteen percent of what it was when we were twenty-five. This drop in DHEA level correlates dramatically with the signs and "symptoms" associated with aging, particularly for women during menopause, and men during andropause.

Like HGH and melatonin, DHEA has shown to have broad anti-aging and anti-disease effects on the body, both indirectly and directly. DHEA regulates the body’s production and regulation of 18 of the 21 other steroid hormones, including the sex hormones estrogen, and testosterone, and the stress hormones cortisol and norepinephrine. Symptoms of Low DHEA

Vaginal Dryness – Causes and Remedies

Although it is most common in women who are postmenopausal, vaginal dryness is also a common problem for women during menopause, especially among postpartum women, although inadequate vaginal lubrication can occur at any age, and is often characterized by dryness, inflammation, and thinning of the lining of the vagina and lower urinary tract due to a decline in estrogen or a hormonal imbalance.

Even women who are on or are weaning off of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) continue to experience bothersome symptoms of vaginal dryness and irritation.

When hormonal imbalance is the cause of vaginal dryness, there are simple steps you can take to improve your natural vaginal lubrication, which we will explore after looking at the root causes of vaginal dryness.

Causes of Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal moisturizing agents and vaginal lubricants are a common treatment because they can be purchased without a prescription, they do not contain hormones, and they have few, if any, side effects.

Lubricants are designed to reduce friction and the discomfort from dryness during intercourse. The lubricant is either applied to the interior of the vagina or directly to the penis just before sex.
