Iron Editor 2010 (Anime Iowa)

Starting at midnight, four editors were given six hours to make an anime music video. We could bring in up to 8 hours of footage, but the song was a total mystery. This year, we were given and extra challenge: we would be making an MEP or a Multi-Editor Project. Each of us would be given part of the song and all our videos would be compiled into one. Whichever part was voted the best, wins. Shockingly, that was my piece.

I heard the song byDan Mei and Marc Johnce of DMF (Danish-German Mashup Forces), My Life on the Crazy Train Sucks on The Best of Bootie 2009 mashup album and became consumed with the idea of making this video with FLCL (Fooly Cooly). I couldn't have had more fun if I tried working on it. :) But be warned: spoilers ahead!

A labor of love if there ever was one. Started two years ago, I joined this project a year in to work with a friend on completing this ambitious multi-editor project. Supertaster: Supertaster Hits the Minnesota State Fair

Being a Minnesota native, the thing I was missing the most was not making that annual trip to the Minnesota State Fair, land of everything on a stick. I pitched the idea to CHOW that one of the writers, James Norton, should do one of his Supertaster video segments there, since he lives in the area. They ran with it and featured some amazing food!

CHOW Tips: Cake Decorating

These were my favorite CHOW Tips ever to edit! I'm probably biased because I love cake decorating, but How to Make a Buttercream Rose is one of the most challenging tips I've ever edited and am very happy with how it came out. My own handmade buttercream roses, however, are another story. Gabrielle Feuersinger of Cake Coquette makes some seriously beautiful cakes.

Iron Editor Contest: Haruko versus Haruhi

Over the weekend I participated in Anime Iowa's Iron Editor competition and shockingly, I won! Considering that immediately after that, my video Breathe Again won Best in Show at the AMV contest, I had a consistent series of small heart attacks the entire rest of the weekend. Especially since I've never won anything before at these competitions, I still don't believe it.

For Iron Editor we were given six hours (starting at midnight) to complete an entire AMV. We had to provide the footage ourselves, but the total length of the footage could not exceed eight hours. We did not know what song we were to edit to, that would be given out just as the competition started. I competed against two other very talented women, Anime Faerie and SpiffyNerd who made the experience extremely fun. See below for links to their versions! The footage I (thankfully) chose was FLCL (Furi Kuri) and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The mystery song was I, My, Me, Mine by Polysics.
