it's that time of the year again, kittens. modernica is having its ginormous WAREHOUSE SALE! this year the fabulous furniture shoppe has taken over a warehouse next to the american apparel headquarters in downtown los angeles.

i checked out the preview sale last night and it was looking pretty with plenty of case study shelving units, desks, daybeds, bubble lamps, and fiberglass shell chairs in a multitude of colors. on saturday, modernica's entire sale inventory will hit the floor and it promises to be tasty. selected items will be marked down 25%-80%. that same day, there will also be a 12-hour sale online.

last night, i treated myself to a low, case study shelving unit (pictured above, middle left pic), which i figured would be perfect for housing my soon-to-be-growing squirrel lamp collection.

i've said it once and i'll say it again: this is the oscars of whoranging, people! your red carpet awaits...

while cruising around silver lake looking for cupcakes, i stumbled upon a craveable little lingerie shop called bittersweet butterfly. inside was a wonderful land of lacy luxe, but the siren that seduced me was a stella mccartney box set of embroidered fruits of the week silk panties.

from watermelon mondays to gramophone sundays, stella makes everyday of the week romantically rousing.

the pretty panties also come complete with a darling little drawer box, which will look sweetly stylish in the boudoir.

the price, however, is beyond my undie allotment at 190.00. sigh...forbidden fruit, indeed.

whoranging at the renegade craft fair in los angeles

over the weekend, i shimmied on down to the renegade craft fair to check out the latest and greatest in DIY wares. it was renegade's first time in los angeles and they were looking pretty in their penthouse suite at the california mart downtown. over 200 vendors set up shop along with DJs from KXLU who kept things groovy and raffles from sublime stitching and etsy who kept moving.

as for my personal purchases...

i've always been obsessed with tanya aguiñiga's felt birds, so i adopted this little red fellow and promised him a safe home away from cats and poachers.

ryan berkley of berkley illustration and his lovely wife, lucy, curated a craveable little booth filled with their signature well-suited menagerie displayed on prints, wallets, coasters, and keychains. one critter in particular caught my eye -- a dignified, high-flying meerkat.

according to ryan, "you might think this guy is just your standard flying meerkat. you'd be wrong! he also plays piano, paints, draws, and he once owned the world's largest model porsche collection. ask him about the time he played the keyboard while doing a double barrel roll."

needless to say, the meerkat is now mine.

of course, i couldn't come home without something special for the children, so i visited feline-goddess, mei zaums, of jake & micah and picked up some organic catnip sushi.

as always, i couldn't decide between maki and and handrolls, and as always...i choose maki.

the end result: a meerkat shine and a cat who will love me forever and ever...as long as i keep bringing home the gorgeous goods.

the snow yak show by mark ryden...plus NAKED! in NY

while attending mark ryden's magnificent (although relatively tame) "tree show" a few years ago, i remember hearing whispers that ryden was straying away from his big-eyed, creepy beauty muses and heading towards a more commercial, non-controversial direction.

well, poodles, the snow yak show dispelled those rumors.

ryden's disturbingly dark yet delicately white snow yak show opened in tokyo five months ago to much shock and awe. and now, the show's most arresting piece, "sophia's bubbles" (pictured below), will be featured in NAKED! as part of the paul kasmin gallery summer exhibition of sundry flesh in new york.

the opening reception is tonight from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. the show runs from july 9th - september 19th.

(by the way, the strategically-placed bubbles on sophia supposedly represent "the solar system." just in case you were wondering.) yep. okay, moving on...

i'm not sure if and when the snow yak show will be coming to the US. in the meantime, here is a little peek for your whoranging pleasure:

these fabulous, vintage-styled fabrics by summersville are hand screen printed by a small town gal named lucie in suffolk, UK. miss lucie's got a keen eye for pattern and color and uses only environmentally friendly, water based inks.

well, poodles, it looks like my computer danced its final cotillion and polished off its last cocktail. it officially died today. however, in true WHORANGE spirit, its hair looked fabulous...even in death.

sadly, this means WHORANGE will take a few days to get back on its feet. i had planned to share my adventures in design show whoranging with you this week (dwell on design, CA boom, and the poketo pop up shop -- all of which i conquered over the weekend while wearing heels), but alas...computer dramatics prevailed.

i'll be back on tuesday, though, and i'll be wearing a brand new party dress. in the meantime, have a wonderful holiday and enjoy twiggy enjoying herself on TV.

dwell on design 2009: LA times classifieds reclaimed design exhibit

earlier this month, the los angeles times and dwell on design held a contest for designers to create items to be displayed in dwell's reclaimed design booth. the catch -- all materials need to be harvested from the los angeles times classifieds.

the designers' objects were exhibited this past weekend alongside vintage items from attic in studio city. the esoteric and inspirational booth encouraged people to take a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to design.

from skateboards to submarine parts to scrap metal -- all items on display were refurbished or reimagined. just goes to show you -- one person's trash is another gal's whorange.

but wait, that's not all...the sellers of the classified-found objects were entered into a drawing. one lucky seller won a 1000.00 cash prize.

i was hoping the winner would be the seller of these feet, but alas, it was not.

dwell on design 2009: woolly pocket wonderland

over the weekend, i hustled on down to the los angeles convention center to get myself a tasty injection of dwell on design.

i must admit, however...i'm not a fan of the convention center. the fluorescent lighting, trade show carpet, and black partition drapery set a drab stage for all of the delicious wares on display. kind of like making love to elevator music -- it's tonally off. the exhibitors deserve something much more sexy.

however, this year, something made the lackluster venue much more inviting -- greenery, and lots of it! thanks to monrovia gardens and the tantalizing woolly pocket gardening company, the so-so center was a little more sassy.

and to make matters more marvelous, the floral designer for our wedding, holly flora, arranged many of the woolly pocket displays.

i actually think this ram attended my reception. at least i hope he did...

it seemed like everywhere i looked, a woolly was watching over me. and, judging by the whisperings around campus, the innovative planting pockets were quite popular.

judging by these fabulous watercolors and screenprints by steven weismann, i think tiny joe & junior are more athletic than i am. i actually purchased a screenprint of them fishing at felt club last year, and it's probably the closest i'll ever come to catching a fish.

much like water and air...i need this book.

penned in 1971 by italian socialite princess luciana pignatelli, "the beautiful people's beauty book" provides invaluable tips on fashion, fitness, face lifts, and how to be forever fabulous. for example, on bathing:

Hot vs. Cold
"Hot baths should never contain water higher than pelvic level. Above all, the bosom must never soak in the tub. Hot water only drags it down, and no woman wants that. After a warm bath, aim a good blast of cold water on the bosom and thighs. They need it."
