We’re a Skype Ambassador!

I’ve been a Skype user for a few years now – ever since I first discovered that I could make free calls to other Skype users. Talk about a money savings. I’m excited to share that we have been selected to be a member of the Skype Ambassador Program!

Skype is a very convenient and affordable way to communicate with friends and family. If you’re living away from home, you can use it to have video chats with members of your family that live across the country. With just one little chat, you can really brighten someone’s day with a joke, hello, or a smile. Oftentimes, having the ability to actually speak to someone “face to face” can convey much more meaning than a greeting card. While there are some very nice greeting cards, you’re limited to the space and the message that will fit in the card. With a video chat on Skype, you can see how someone reacts and it’s almost like you are in the same room with them. It just doesn’t really compare to a card.

“Joyful Noise” on Blu-ray Combo & DVD – Review #joyfulnoise

One of the things I love about church is good ‘ole, toe-tapping music. Music has the power to lift your spirit in praise. “Joyful Noise”, starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, follows the journey of one church choir as they strive to bring something special back to their small town.

About “Joyful Noise”

The small town of Pacashau, Georgia, has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart. Their newly appointed director, Vi Rose Hill (Latifah), stubbornly wants to stick with their tried-and-true traditional style, while the fiery G.G. Sparrow (Parton) thinks tried-and-true translates to tired-and-old. Shaking things up even more is the arrival of G.G.’s rebellious grandson, Randy (Jordan). Randy has an ear for music, but he also has an eye for Vi Rose’s beautiful and talented daughter, Olivia (Palmer), and the sparks between the two teenagers are causing even more friction between G.G. and Vi Rose. If these two strong-willed women can put aside their differences for the good of the people in their town, they – and their choir – may make the most joyful noise of all.

The Review

One of the things I was looking forward to the most about “Joyful Noise” was the music. Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah – people would pay to see those two perform together. There is no doubt that both of these ladies can belt. There were a couple of duets and solos for each lady and,as expected, they were amazing. What was a surprise were the impressive performances by KeKe Palmer and Jeremy Jordan, two young actors who bright a little bit of “hip” to the movie.

“Joyful Noise” begins with the Divinity Church Choir performing at the National Joyful Noise Competition. Mid-song, their beloved choir director passes away. The church votes Vi Rose Hill, played by Queen Latifah, as the new choir director and she continues leading the choir in traditional gospel songs and gospel singing. After dabbling with some Michael Jackson (Man in the Mirror), the music gets “hipped” up a notch when G.G.’s nephew comes to town. His presence has an impact on Vi Rose’s life in ways that are unexpected.

I love gospel music, so I found all of the gospel music and the beautiful solo that Latifah sang simply beautiful. The audience at the National Joyful Noise Competition was a tougher crowd, and after discovering that one of their competitors was a talented twelve-year old choir, Vi Rose decides to perform a hip-hop gospel performance, with influences from modern songs, to bring the crowd to its feet.

The Review

I am a fan of anything that allows me to do more with my time, more comfortable. Many of us do other things while on the phone, but I find that I’ll need to swap hands or keep my head tilted to hold the phone on my shoulder. This not only can be uncomfortable, but it could actually cause neck problems. Fortunately, VTech has a solution for us multi-tasking phone users – their new VTech LS647503 Multitasking Phone System.

I’ve been a fan of VTech phones for a few years now. There’s something very sleek and intuitive about their phone designs. Their thoughtfulness is very present in the Multitasking Phone System. The “big” thing is that the Multitasking system includes a convenient headset you can use to answer calls. The system comes with three different ear attachments and one over the head attachment. I prefer using the over the head attachment – it makes me feel more professional.

When you have an incoming call, simply press the small power button on the headset to answer, then you can talk away, completely hands-free! You can fold, iron, bake, wash – anything you want while still gabbing on the phone.

In case you’re not near the phone, you can enable the Voice Announce Caller ID, which automatically announces the name and number that is calling. If you want to talk to them, then simply turn on your hands-free set and start talking.

This system comes with two handsets – one with the base and another that can be placed in any other room. Use their convenient Push-to-talk system to quickly talk to someone in the other room.

The VTech LS6475-3 Multitasking Phone System has many features that can make things easier at home. The convenient headset allows you to continue what you’re working on while you answer the phone.

Hide Your Recyclables with the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler – Review & Giveaway

Many of us have the best of intentions when it comes to recycling. One of the things I’ve noticed is that without a dedicated receptacle specifically for recyclables, empty bottles and boxes end up on the floor or counter and then eventually get stuffed into a “regular” garbage bag. Having a separate bin to put your recyclables makes it easy to keep the items sorted and separate.

The Hidden Recycler attaches to the inside of a cabinet door to collect recyclables out of sight and keeps your counters clear. The bag is durable, machine washable, and made of recycled material. Collect your recyclables and then easily lift the bag from the lid and cabinet by the handle to take them out to your recycle bin.

The Review

When it comes to kitchens, it’s important to me for everything to have its place. I also try to keep the clutter down (although my kitchen doesn’t always reflect that if I’m being totally honest.) One of the things I like about the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler is how it tucks conveniently inside one of your cabinets so it is out of sight.

To install the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler, you simply assemble the Recycler (in about 3 steps following the pictorial directions), then hook it over the edge of one of your cabinets. The foam on the hooks ensures that it is on securely so things don’t accidentally get loose or fall off. Alternately, you can use screws to create a more permanent installation.

Having the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler creates that place for the empty cartons and bottles that I like to recycle. It has a 5 gallon bag that is lined with a leak-proof liner and is machine washable (which is a must.) It easily fits a gallon milk jug or huge orange juice container. Once your bag is full, simply remove the bag using the attached handle and carry the bag to your recycle bin. The lid stays with the hooks and neatly folds down against the cabinet door when you remove the bag.

The Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler makes recycling much easier and more convenient. I actually recycle more now that everything goes into the bag and nothing gets left on the counter. Keep Track of Recalls with Recalls Plus #RecallsPlus

These days it seems like we can’t go a week without hearing about a new food scare or a warning about some product. Whether it’s something as serious as chemicals in food or something seemingly small, such as a small piece that can break off a child’s toy, it’s important to know what products and foods have had recalls – not only for knowledge but also to protect your children.

But who has time to scour all the reports and who wants to wait until it makes the news (if it even makes it there at all) before knowing about a recall? Fortunately, a new app developed by SAP, allows parents the monitor and track recalls on all of their children’s products and foods. This app is called Recalls Plus.

Available on Facebook, or as a free app download for the iPhone and Android phones, Recalls Plus allows you to create Personal Watch Lists of the products that are used the most in your home. Visit the Recalls Plus download page to download the app to your phone or to find Recalls Plus on Facebook.

Once you download the app, it is very easy to use. First, you set-up your account, or login using Facebook or Twitter. Once logged in, you can check the latest recall news, view your inbox, and add/manage your own personal watch list. You can add items to your watch list by searching through pre-set products, sorted by age (baby, infant, toddler) or by searching manually for specific products that you use. Once the products have been added, you will be notified if there are any relevant recalls for those product. You can also add specific allergens to your watchlist to be notified of any allergen warnings.

I found Recalls Plus to be very easy and intuitive to use. Adding products to the watch list just took a few moments, and it even tracks some of the purchase information for the product. Recalls Plus is a great app that can help parents monitor recalls for products used in the home.

The Battleship game is a classic one that has been around since 1943, when it was played using a paper and pencil. Now, we have cool grid boards and red and white pegs to track our progress. Hasbro has just released the Classic Battleship Movie Edition game, which ties in with the upcoming “Battleship” movie that pits man versus alient.

The game comes in a convenient carrying case, making it easy to wage your own battles at home or on the go.

The Review

It’s been awhile since I played Battleship, but fortunately, just like riding a back, you don’t forget how to play. Set-up of the game is easy and I love how everything can be boxed up into one convenient carrying case. The case splits up into two boards – one Navy and the other Alien. You can tell the difference between the two both by the image behind the backboard and the ships. Navy has the traditional carrier and battleship ships while the Alien fleet consists of a flagship and stingers, to name a few.

Within each board is a pull out storage tray where you can store the special playing cards that come with this new version of Battleship, along with red HIT pegs and white MISS pegs. There are peg holes along the left and right sides of the board to store your ships when not in play.

This latest version has a new Special Ops game option that involves the playing cards I mentioned earlier. Each side gets 24 cards which are drawn at the beginning of each turn. Each card has one of 4 gameplay options that vary the number of shots fired.

Along with the Classic Battleship Movie Edition game, Hasbro has also released a new KRE-O Battleship Combat Chopper set. With this set, kids can build their own chopper, complete with spinning rotor and missiles that you they can launch to let their imaginations fly.
