The Review

I knew Green Works products were supposed to be greener than other cleaning products, but I wasn’t exactly sure how they were greener. To learn more, I visited the Green Works website, where I learned that Green Works products are made with plant and mineral-based cleaning ingredients that are naturally derived and biodegradable. Taking it to another level, the Green Works Cleaning Wipes are 100% compostable, which helps reduce your cleaning waste.

Green Works has several cleaning products available, ranging from stain removers to multipurpose cleaners. We had the opportunity to try a few of these products around the home over the past few weeks and have been impressed by how well they get things clean. When you hear “green” you might think “weak” but that is definitely not the case here. The Green Works all-purpose cleaner and cleaning wipes were able to wipe through even the stickiest kitchen counters. In the bathroom, the non-toxic bathroom cleanser easily wiped away soap ick and water spots leaving my counters sparkling clean.

One of the biggest things I noticed was that there didn’t seem to be a strong chemical smell when cleaning. The cleaning wipes and the all-purpose cleaner had a lemon-ish scent while the bathroom cleaner was just a normal cleaner smell, but the scents were much milder than other cleaners. The difference was most noticeable when I was cleaning the bathroom. Sometimes you have to keep a door open so you don’t get overwhelmed by the chemical smell, but with Green Works, I hardly smelled anything after wiping things down.

Whether cleaning the bathroom or the kitchen, or for just touch-up cleaning around the house, Green Works cleaners did a great job of wiping up the mess. Valentine’s Day Trifle from Lucky Leaf – Review & Giveaway

I love making desserts, so when I received a new batch of recipes from one of my favorite baking companies, Lucky Leaf, I was eager to start baking. I’ve been using Lucky Leaf Premium pie fillings for a variety of baking adventures, including pies, tarts, and cakes. For this baking adventure I decided to make their Layers of Love Cherry-Choco Trifle. As an extra twist, I swapped out their amazing strawberries instead of cheery. I would be making a Layers of Love Strawberry-Choco Trifle.

After a quick trip to the grocery store, I was ready to begin cooking. First up, the chocolate cake which would be the first layer of my trifle. I should have known from the beginning that something wasn’t right – the chocolate didn’t smell like chocolate, the house didn’t smell like baking cake, the whole thing just smelled off. I don’t even know what happened, but the finished product tasted horrible and went right into the trash. The trifle recipe soon became Layers of Love Strawberry-Choco Trifle with Butter Cake instead of Chocolate Cake. Happily the butter cake came out perfectly. After letting it cool, I sliced the cake up into cake squares.

While the cake was baking, I made the pudding that was now the “choco” of this trifle. I was able to get the pudding made and into the fridge for cooling.

About an hour later, I had all of my ingredients ready in a row to assemble in the Layers of Love Strawberry-Choco Trifle with Butter Cake instead of Chocolate Cake. I tried to find a trifle bowl at the store and wasn’t able to hunt one down. Instead I found these really cute individual bowls that I could use to make mini trifles!

A layer of cake, a layer of Lucky Leaf strawberry pie filling, a layer of pudding, a layer of Cool Whip. Repeat and in a jiffy you have these:

I added a little twist to some of them, by just having the cake, strawberry pie filling and cool whip, making strawberry shortcake-like trifles.

They were delicious. Like seriously delicious. I won’t even tell you how many of these I ate. No I won’t. But with cake, fruit, whipped cream and chocolate, can you really go wrong? More and more our world, our cities, our communities are becoming more and more diverse. Kicking off this month, Black History Month, and wrapping up with Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 – October 15, digital cable platforms, like On Demand, are featuring special programming that celebrates the diverse cultures around us with Diversity on Demand, a new initiative to support multi-culturalism.

Layers of Love Cherry-Choco Trifle Recipe

Layers of Love Cherry-Choco Trifle Recipe

Layers of Love Cherry-Choco Trifle
Serves 12-14
Ingredients:
1 18.25-ounce package chocolate cake mix, prepared
1 4-serving size package instant chocolate pudding mix, prepared
2 21-ounce cans LUCKY LEAF ® Regular or Premium Cherry or Strwaberry Pie Filling
2 cups frozen whipped topping,thawed
Chocolate curls (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare cake mix according to package directions and bake in a 13”x9” baking pan. Let cake cool completely and cut into 1-inch cubes.
Prepare pudding mix according to package directions. Chill at least 30 minutes.
Place half of cake cubes in a 3- to 4-quart trifle bowl.
Spoon one can of the LUCKY LEAF Cherry Pie Filling over cake; spread 1 cup pudding over cherries and top with half of whipped topping. Repeat layers.
Top with chocolate curls, if desired.
Cover and chill at least 1 hour.

Life Is Like Basketball Hoops

The park near my house has lots of activities – tennis courts, dog park, basketball courts, and ample paths to walk. One section of the park has a “kiddie” basketball hoop section, which has several “kid-sized” hoops in bright colors and fun shapes. Numbers painted on the ground at varying distances reward more points the further from the hoop. While I haven’t played ball at those hoops, I’ve always appreciated the concept.

For a kid who is under 4 feet tall, “adult-sized” basketball hoops may seem an insurmountable challenge. How on earth are they supposed to throw a ball that’s bigger than their head into a hoop that’s 2.5 times taller than they are? Put them in front of the kid-sized hoops, and all of a sudden, it becomes attainable. They can shoot the ball, they could score a goal (or is it a basket?), they can earn points. The fun and confidence that a child can have by playing basketball (as in “fun” playing, not “serious to win a game” playing) can be the building blocks for them as they grow up and face taller and taller hoops. Even in middle school, the hoops are slightly adjusted for the middle-sized kids and it isn’t until they’re almost full grown and in high school that they start having to shoot at hoops 10 feet above the ground. The goal adjusts with their growth.

I often think that many of the things in our life “self-adjust” in the same way. Problems that may seem insurmountable now, may actually be much more reachable after we go through some growth – whether it’s emotional, physical, mental, or even spiritual. The trick is to not get discouraged when that hoop seems so far away. Look around you and see if there are other hoops set-up that are more within your reach. Play on those hoops and grow, with the faith that you’ll soon graduate to the regulation hoops.

This same principal can be applied to bloggers as well. While we would all love to have bazillions of readers and followers, the truth is – it’s a process. If you keep checking your stats and get disappointed that you don’t have x number of page views today, you might get disappointed and think you’re doing something wrong. But if you put it into the perspective of your own blog’s growth, you might miss the picture of seeing constant growth because you’re so focused on trying to reach millions of followers. Focusing on the “adult-sized” goal prevents you from enjoying reaching the “kid-sized” goal.

Whether you’re a blogger or not, we can strive to always be better, stronger, faster, but don’t let big goals overshadow the smaller goals you are able to achieve right now, today.
