This is the biggest flea market in Wichita, with hundreds of high-quality vendors of all types with treasures. And because it’s indoors, the flea market will happen rain or shine. It’s the place to be on a weekend day.

I personally love Meddys, and it has become one of our family’s go-to spots. The food is fresh, flavorful, and feels healthier than many quick-dining options around town. Their hummus, shawarmas, salads, and Mediterranean bowls are all made fresh to order, and the portions are generous for the price. We always have leftovers, so one meal usually turns into two meals.

I also really like Alex Harb, the founder of Meddys. His story is pretty incredible and very Wichita. After moving to the U.S. from Lebanon to attend Wichita State University, he worked his way through school while gaining restaurant experience before eventually following his passion for food. About the Wienermobile:

• The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is an iconic, hot dog-shaped vehicle that has been a fun and quirky part of American culture since it first hit the road in 1936.
• Its a 27-foot-long Oscar Mayer Hotdog vehicle. 
• The first version was created by Oscar Mayer’s Nephew, Carl G. Mayer.

For years, I only knew of a few places nearby that offered fruit picking near me. With the help of a few friends, readers, and the internet, I’ve found some local farms that welcome their customers to pick fruit from their fields. Some of them require an appointment, so be sure you visit their websites or give them a call before you plan your day.

What are the you-pick Seasons in Kansas? 

One thing we’ve learned after listing fun agricultural activities like you-pick produce and sunflower fields for several years is that seasons don’t always follow our expectations.

Too much or too little rain, sun, cold snaps, and other weather often affect when the you-pick crops are ready. But there are some general time frames you can expect to grab your buckets and mud shoes and get out to the you-pick farms! Here is what we know, but of course, you would get the best advice by asking the grower at each of the you-pick locations near Wichita we’ve listed below.

Spring and early summer

• You pick berries! Strawberries come first, usually in May, followed by blueberries, then blackberries.

Summer

• Lavender fields begin to blossom and smell gorgeous by early summer. Your backyard tomatoes are probably starting to produce, too, and farmers’ markets should have an abundant supply. Corn stands usually start “cropping up” (pun totally intended) in Wichita around the end of June.

Late Summer

• Peaches start ripening as we approach the new school year – as long as a late spring freeze didn’t wipe out the tender blossoms. Sunflowers may begin budding as early as July, and some sunflower fields are ready for us to “agri-tour” by August. Apples may be ready for picking in August as well.

Fall

• Apples, late sunflowers, and pumpkins can all be enjoyed in the fall!

When is Yoga at Exploration Place? Every Saturday, May 9 – September 19 (except July 4 this year)

Dates and Times for Free Yoga:

Where is the Riverside Yoga Class? Exploration Place at the Wichita Foundation Amphitheater is on the west side of the Exploration Place Museum along the Arkansas River.

Do I need to RSVP? No registration is necessary.

Who Can Go? Everyone! All ages are welcome.

Suggestions to Bring: Bring a yoga mat if you have one; if not, no worries; bring a beach towel. Don’t forget your water bottle.

What if bad Weather? Check the Exploration Place Facebook page for inclement-weather announcements.

Pro Tip: Dogs are allowed, but it would be best to keep them leashed, make a day of it, and enjoy a Dog-Friendly Patio afterward.

Riverflix at Exploration Place is a free outdoor movie series held at the Wichita Foundation Amphitheater near the Keeper of the Plains. Movies run from April through October and are a fun, budget-friendly way to watch a film under the stars. Click the link below to see dates and whats playing.

Well, there you have it! The Sunflower Summer info in a nutshell. It truly is a great “Wichita on the Cheap” style program everyone can benefit from.

If you can tour the state and visit some of these places outside the Wichita area, I would do it. Kids remember these kinds of trips for the rest of their lives. 

(The newest state park – Little Jerusalem – was also included. What a trip that would be!)

Who is Paying for the Sunflower Summer Program?

The Kansas State Department of Education provides this program through a grant funded by Elementary and Secondary Education Emergency Relief (ESSER) from the American Rescue Plan Act. This is all information from the Sunflower Summer website, which you can see here. 

Sunflower Summer is FREE to Kansas students and their families.

The website, sunflowersummer.org, has a list of Frequently Asked Questions and a video overview of the program. I highly recommend you check it out (and check back until you see a link to the app) for more information. This is all I know right now! But it looks like it will be a lot of fun for students!!

Sunflower Summer App 2026- Free Admission to Kansas Attractions Wichita on the Cheap - Living the Good Life for Less

This summer’s Bradley Fair Summer Concert series begins June 11, 2026. In the past, the concerts have been solely jazz, but this year you can enjoy a mix of styles. This is an annual 5-week concert series on Thursday evening. 

Bring the kids, good friends, and a lawn chair or blanket, and prepare to enjoy some lovely evenings this summer. Kid-friendly pre-show activities will take place around the lakeside at 6 pm and the main stage will kick off at 7:30 pm.

These FREE summer concerts are great for the whole family. 

Seating for the Bradley Fair Concert Series: 

• My favorite spot is on the lawn by the lake behind the shopping center. The spacious, grassy area is great for spreading out a little bit, and the sound carries very well over the water. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and set up a picnic by the water. 
• Sit closer to the performance on the Plaza. Guests may set up their chairs at 5:00 PM on the day of the concert. No registration is required, and capacity is limited.

It’s a great time to get together with friends and family. The kids can watch the ducks and the white egret, which often lands on the edge of the lake to dive for fish.

Some evenings it’s a little hot until after the sun has set, so you may want to bring a bottle of water and some spending money for ice cream.

Soft drinks, wine, and cocktails will also be available to purchase at the concerts.

The Bradley Fair shopping center is at Rock Road and 21st Street East in Wichita.

The FREE outdoor summer concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. You can set up your lawn chair on the Plaza in your reserved spot as early as 5 p.m. the day of the concert. Registration is not required, but it helps team members plan the event so they can ensure it is the best experience possible. You can find the Eventbrite registration link here. In the event of inclement weather, registered attendees will receive an email notifying them of the cancellation.

2026 Summer Concerts at Bradley Fair

• June 18 – just Tori & the Rockies
• June 25 – Eclipse Wichita
• July 2 – King Cabbage Brass Band, followed by a fireworks finale at 9:30 PM from Victory Pyrotechnics

The concert is free to attend, but if you want to elevate your evening, snag a VIP ticket for reserved seating, exclusive treats, and a night with nothing to worry about but the music.

• What time do the concerts end? Each concert ends around 9:30 PM. However, make sure you stick around for the fireworks show following the final performance.
• Can I bring my dog? Yes. Bradley Fair is a dog-friendly property, and pups are always welcome. Please keep your dog on a leash. There will be fireworks on July 3rd, so please be mindful of the loud noises when deciding whether to bring your pets.
• Where can I use the restroom? Restrooms are available in the parking lot just west of the roundabout drive at the top of the Plaza, as well as behind Healing Waters and HomeGrown.
• Are you having fireworks? Yes. Fireworks will take place following the final concert.
• Will I be able to hear the music from my lakeside picnic? Yes. They work with local sound experts to ensure lakeside picnic seating provides an optimal listening experience.
• Do I need to register for seating? No registration is required.
• Do I need to bring my own lawn chairs? Yes, please bring your own lawn chairs for all seating options.

Bradley Fair Summer Concert Series 2026 Wichita on the Cheap - Living the Good Life for Less

The Friends of the Library takes pride in the high-quality books they offer. There will be fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books available. You’ll find DIY books, history, religion, health, self-help, fiction, romance, business, biographies, crafts, art, music, coffee table books, and more.

The Friends of the Wichita Public Library (FWPL) organization has announced that the next sale of donated books will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd Street). The event is open to the public, and customers may either purchase an FWPL cloth tote bag and fill it for $10 or bring a previously purchased FWPL bag (red, green, blue, or purple with FWPL logo) and fill it for $5. Library-themed 150^th anniversary merchandise will also be sold.

Paid members of FWPL may attend a special member-only preview book sale on Friday, July 10, at the Advanced Learning Library from 5 to 6:30 p.m. FWPL memberships range from $15 to $150 and can be purchased at the preview event. A membership application is also available online at wichitalibraryfriends.org/shop. Proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Wichita Public Library by helping to fund literacy initiatives, branch programs, and author events.

Book donations:  
Gifts of books and other materials (music CDs, magazines, movie DVDs, audiobook CDs, and sheet music) that are in good condition are accepted year-round at any Library location during open hours. To arrange large donations, email friends@wichitalibrary.org. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Year-round book sales:
Donated books, music CDs, magazines, movie DVDs, audiobooks, and sheet music are sold year-round to the public at the Friends Used Bookstore, located on the first floor of the Advanced Learning Library (711 West 2^nd St. N.). The bookstore operates Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 316-261-8500 for more information.

Tickets to the concerts and activities can be purchased all at once as a season pass or individually at the gate. Ticket prices at the gate usually range from $10 to $20 each. 

Pack a picnic to enjoy during the performance, and please leave pets at home.

One of the most loved traditions is leaving a small basket of treats or flowers on someone’s doorstep, ringing the doorbell, and running away before they answer.

It is simple, a little silly, and honestly, something kids love.

The idea behind a May Day basket is easy. You fill a small container with flowers or treats and secretly deliver it to a neighbor, friend, or family member.

Some people still follow the old tradition of “ring and run,” while others just leave a sweet note. Either way, it is a fun way to teach kids about kindness and doing something nice for others.
