Yarnie Goodness

I've acquired a bit of merino wool yarn from a farmer in Colorado and have been dyeing like crazy. It really is addicting and so fun to do.

Introducing my hand dyed yarn for Bad Ass knitters and crocheters.

I call this color Burning Inside. A smoldering self striping yarn in variegating oranges and yellows. A pyromaniacs favorite color

Killer Clown. This yarn is a creepy self striping rainbow of pink, blue, yellow, green, and purple. Are you afraid of clowns? You should be.

Hypothermia. This yarn starts out a frosty light blue and gradually darkens to a deep frozen arctic blue. Self Striping. Baby it's cool.

I call this color ACID TEST. A neon green and variegating purple self striping yarn sure to give you flashbacks.

Atomic Vomit. This yarn is a nausea inducing shade of bright green. So Awesome you'll want to puke.

Hand dyed by me with food grade colors. This 100% worsted weight merino wool yarn is warm and fabulous to work with. This is a gorgeous yarn with great stitch definition.

Victorian Inspired Chokers

I just love the beauty and mystic of the Victorian Era. I was inspired to make these little Victorian Mourning Chokers a few weeks ago. Made with #10 crochet thread and a #7 hook and I even added fancy ribbon to a few.

All chokers tie simply in a bow around the neck. I should have these babies up in my Etsy shop sometime in the next week for $15.00 each.

Fresh Designs Crochet Series

I am so excited that one of my delightfully demented crochet creations will be making an appearance at a bookstore near you this spring.

My pattern will be featured in the Fresh Designs Crochet series home edition published by Cooperative Press. The lovely and talented MK Carrol is the series editor and talked me into submitting a design and what do you know...they liked it! I can guarantee you wont see another pattern like this in any other craft book out there. It is definitely one of a kind.

I'm going to give you a little sneak peek at my project. I can only let you see a small swatch. But hopefully that will make you crocheters out there curious enough to buy the book.

It is one of my filet crochet designs and is creepy awesome!

One cool thing about designing for a book is the free yarn. Or thread in my case. I got some Garden Cotton Thread by Nazli Gelin from Universal Yarn. It's great thread to work with and comes in tons of colors.

Halloween the best day of the year has finally come. I want to thank Countdown to Halloween for the chance to be a Cryptkeeper this year. I always love to share my Halloween antics with everybody. If you get a chance go check out the other Cryptkeepers for spooky fun.

This past Saturday I attended the annual Albany Oregon downtown trick-or-treat. To my surprise I spotted two fantastic crochet Halloween costumes. Since I was a kid I have always loved the comic strip Garfield. I've got a thing for fat cats....what can I say? I about died from all the cuteness these costumes have. Tons of work went into these little darlings. The lady has mad crochet skills that's for sure.

Of course my nephew Journal won the costume contest. He was a "Lich" which according to him is an evil undead sorcerer.

This is apparently what Liches do. They eat souls for breakfast and broken hearts for lunch.

That evening my family and I took a tour of Haunted Albany on the Trolley of terror. Great ghost stories were told and spooky fun was had.

The Semi-Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze

Last year I was browsing around the internet and found out about this amazing event in the historic Hudson Valley. At the Van Cortlandt manor estates they hold an annual jack-o-lantern blaze where you can see over 4000 individually hand carved illuminated pumpkins. Absolutely breathtaking! Van Cortlandt manor I just love jack-o-lanterns. The way they look, the smell, and especially the history. For some reason they just make me happy. I even have a grinning jack-o-lantern tattooed on my leg. So since it's such a long drive from Oregon to New York I had my own blaze last year. I invited friends and family over to a pumpkin carving party to help me carve over 80 jack-o-lanterns. We had planned on doing this outside but of course the dreaded Oregon rain decided to show up so we had to move indoors. I had pumpkin guts strewn from one end of my house to the other. Downtown Albany Trick -Or-Treat

For over 30 years the Saturday before Halloween in beautiful historic Downtown Albany Oregon little ghouls and goblins take to the streets to fill their bags with goodies. Every year since my children were able to walk we have made the trek. All the fantastic merchants get into the spirit decorating their shops and dressing up in fun costumes. Plus there is a costume contest for different age groups to the age of 12. Halloween 2010 was the last year my son was able to participate but he had the honor of winning 1st place in his age group 4 years in a row. I'm sure the other kids are glad they don't have him to compete with anymore. This is a fabulous fun event for families and a great place to see some amazing home made costumes (I'm not a fan of store bought costumes.) It's so nice to know that the traditional Halloween spirit is alive and well in small town America.

Here are some photos that I took at last years trick-or-treat. Some are a little fuzzy because I suck at taking pictures but I hope you enjoy them.

I Was Abducted by Aliens. (Or what I have been up to)

Yet again I am admitting to being a bad blogger. But I do have a few pretty good excuses for my long absence from the internetty world.

I was totally abducted by these crochet aliens by Patricia Waller.

It really wasn't as bad as you might think because as you can see one of them is hung like a horse.(Please insert probing joke here.) HA!

My husband and I have split.

I'm doing just fine. I found a nice way to release my tension.

In my spare time I have been working on turning my 14 year old son into one of my evil robot minions.

And I have been trying to figure out why my bananas are leaving me strange messages.

I also just finished a HUGE art installation project. I started it at the end of May and sent it off to my client on the 17th of August. She is so awesome to work with, just a great sense of humor and a total sweetie. It really was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to share with everybody. As soon as I get the word I'll post some pic's.

I also submitted a couple of my quirky filet crochet doily designs to the Cooperative Press Fresh Designs call for submissions. Mk Carrol is one of the editors and sent me an email asking me to submit. Very cool to get asked by the editor! If you want to submit a design yourself just click the link above for more info. I think the deadline for submissions is the 2nd of September. So get in while you can.

Also working on getting some more skull scarves up in my Etsy shop in time for Halloween. I'm looking forward to being a Cryptkeeper this October for The Countdown to Halloween blog-a-thon. It will be all Halloween all the time here at Wicked Crochet this October. I absolutely LOVE Halloween and can't wait for it to get here!

Hopefully I will be finishing up my filet crochet BRAIN doily sometime this week. This will be adorably weird when I get done. So look for pic's soon!

Yes I know. I have been such a bad blogger lately that I probably deserve a really good spanking.

But I have been working diligently on a fabulous new project. Really and truly I am. I can't say too much about it yet except it's lace and it's taking me FOREVER to get it done. I am expecting to be finished by the end of the month as long as no unforeseen events or the zombie apocalypse happens to go down. You never know. Mrs. Evils is the lovely proprietor of the fabulous etsy shop My Pretty Zombie. She makes beautiful mineral eye shadows with names like Unicorn Pee, Rabies, and Gangrenous. I seriously love her eye shadows. The colors are amazing and they last all day long. It's all I wear now.

Well I guess I can't be wicked all the time. I am a sucker for all things "cute" be it fuzzy baby animals or some super easy one skein crochet fingerless gloves.

Easy cheesy! This is a quick project that only takes a day to finish up. Who doesn't love instant gratification?

This is the same pattern I used for my Monstrous Fingerless Gloves all you need to do is alternate stripes of the colors of your choice. Again easy cheesy!

One Of a kind crocheted skull scarf pattern by me Wicked Crochet! This is a pattern I love dearly. Please do not share or sell copies of this pattern. This pattern is for personal use only and is not for distribution in any form. Items made with this pattern may not be sold at any time.

You can use Worsted, DK, or Sport Weight Yarn. You will need two 100 gram skeins.

Gauge is unimportant in this project. Just change your hook size to correspond with the type of yarn you are using. For example if working with sport weight yarn use a size D (3.25mm) crochet hook etc.

Edward Gorey's Neglected Murderesses: A Crochet Killer

Edward Gorey became particularly popular through his animated introduction to the PBS series Mystery! in the 1980's. I was always attracted to his dark humor and amazing Victorian Gothic artistic style. One of my favorite books and one of his more well-known works is "The Gashlycrumb Tinies"

What a lovely surprise it was when I ran across his book Dancing Cats and Neglected Murderesses.

I'm always on the lookout for anything crochet with a strange or dark theme. Mrs. Daisy Sallow is now my most favorite crocheter of all time.

Mrs Daisy Sallow eviscerated her daughter-in-law with a No. 7 hook, afterwords crocheting, over the course of three evenings, her shroud in a snowflake pattern (1921)

Now there's a lady who knows how to work a #7 hook.
