1. Superman:

Obviously Superman is one of the most successful adaptations of comic books into movies. One of the main reasons why Superman became an iconic hero is that he can do pretty much all humans would like to do. 2. Batman:

In 1989, Tim Burton created the perfect Batman with Michael Keaton in the main role. But what made the Batman movies so spectacular were the evil roles: Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and the late Heath Ledger in the best Joker role ever; these are things you simply cannot forget.

3. Spiderman:

Although Spiderman movies were not as successful as the Superman and Batman movies, still they were fun to watch. Spiderman 2 was better than the first, and Toby McGuire became a rather kind and little clumsy and casual.

4. 300:

If you are into history, the 300 is a movie to watch. Based on a comic novel, the movie describes one of the most notorious battles in history, the battle of the Spartans against the Persians in Thermopylai (Hot Gates). The movie is thrilling, a visual spectacle. Not to mention the impeccable abs of the Spartans.

5. Men in Black:

That was a comic indeed! Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith were amazing as the men in black duo, resulting in a hilarious yet very interesting result with nice special and visual effects. Men in Black is the funniest of the comic book movies of the last 20 years.

6. Blade:

In late 90s Blade was the absolute movie to watch. It had a frenetic editing, amazing cinematography and gritty realism that became the example for so many movies to come. Wesley Snipes is the man to fear in Blade.

7. The X Men:

The X Men were a series of movies that made a huge hit upon release. X men movies were enjoyable, thrilling, adventurous and violent enough: these traits made them so appealing to the audiences all over the world.

8. Iron Man:

Iron Man is not the most popular comic book outside the US; however, Robert Downey Jr did such a great job that everyone loved the movie, even if not that familiar with the original comic hero.

9. The Crow:

Urban legends, or urban myths, tend to be stories so widely and universally circulated that the majority of people who come across them automatically accept them as being genuine incidents. Furthermore, those people circulating these urban legends believe these stories to be completely genuine although, when investigated, these myths are exactly that – stories proven to be myths when minimal investigation as to their sources is carried out.

Of course, when relating an urban legend it is essential for your story to sound feasible, preferably referencing it back to ‘somebody, whom I knew, knew somebody to whom this happened to…’ The urban legend could be embarrassing or funny, appalling or tragic – or simply something along the lines of ‘my mother’s friend’s daughter caught a cold that turned out to not be a cold but was the symptoms of being allergic to insect bites…’. It is important that, as an urban legend unfolds in the telling, that the essence of the story is believable, from which its veracity can be proven from reliable sources.

Not Necessarily Fictitious

Urban legends which eventually become entrenched into society’s folklore give the appearance of being a tale with a moral whose actual storyline is based on an incident derived from fact. Over generations much of this folklore evolves so that, as we reach modern times, there are often as many versions, each with a ring of truth to them, as there are people telling the story. Despite their variety, there are certain characteristics that are common to all urban legends, least of all that the source of these myths are often of indeterminate origin, with their beginnings lost amidst the mists of time. Despite these lost beginnings, the greatly disparate myths are all thought to arise from a single event, long lost in the past, with the storyline carrying a ring of truth with it regardless of the number of times the myth is re-told and re-adapted in the telling.

Contemporary Legends, Urban or Not

Many of these legends have evolved over generations from a single event in the past and, despite being called ‘urban’ often have little to do with originating within any metropolis. So, while these apocryphal stories tend to be referred to as ‘urban myths’ or ‘urban legends’ there is no real consensus as to where the ‘urban’ derivative actually came from. In fact, these myths are often referred to as contemporary legends and mean exactly the same thing.

Turning an Event into a Narrative

An important characteristic of the urban legend is that it is a story that has evolved over time, narrated in many places almost simultaneously, yet emerging from a single, unspecified source. Furthermore, the narrative needs to hold a kernel of truth into which is interwoven a narrative that sounds as feasible as to be a true event. Occasionally, the narrative does actually seem to come to life in a true, witnessed event although this does not detract from an acknowledgment of being any less an urban legend or, legend of a contemporary nature.

Andre the giant, born André René Roussimoff in France on May 19th, 1946, was a well known wrestler and actor nicknamed as the 8th wonder of the world due to his extraordinarily large size, both height and weight.
Unfortunately at an early age he displayed signs of acromegaly and he became aware about the diseases crippling abilities but still it did not darken his life nor darken his spirit. Instead, he chose to live a life, which would be full of fun and excitement paving the way for those with differences and a zest for life.

A fun and frolic driven life was what Andre the giant desired and he poured his heart out into it everything he attempted. He resembled a tower and physical supremacy over others made him fearful so he felt wrestling was the ultimate option and he left his home to pursue his wrestling career.

He started wrestling at an early age all around the world making a name for himself in such places as Canada, England, Germany, and Africa. He made his debut in 1970, billed as “Monster Roussimoff”, wrestling for International Wrestling Enterprise that was being held in Japan and won the company’s tag team championship alongside Michael Nador. There he made his mark by performing well and was his first big entrance into the wrestling field. This event also brought about a significant change in his life. He was officially diagnosed with acromegaly. This disorder gave him the unusual physical dimensions he had.

In 1988 Roussimoff began wrestling in the world wrestling championship and shot to fame instantly. His imposing structure made him so powerful that he remained undefeated for a span of 15 years. By the year 1993, he became a worldwide name in the world of wrestling. At around 500 pounds with such an imposing height he truly resembled a giant, hence the nickname ‘Andre the Giant’. After his death in the year 1993, he was officially inducted into the WWF hall of fame.

He was reasonably successful in the field of acting too. He was part of the television series- six million dollar man. He acted in the film, the princess bride. He also took part in Conan the Destroyer. He was successful in films because of his popularity in the arena of wrestling. Wrestling was his success story and apart from this, he tried to gain popularity through films and acting. There was no one in that era to match his physical dimensions. So naturally, it was kind of a first choice for people who wanted to promote him through the world of entertainment.

Later in his life, this disease began to take a toll on his body and thereby he started becoming crippled. It was during the shoot of a particular film that he felt the pain for the first time. The most difficult task of his organs was to circulate blood to all parts of the body. He began to get bogged down.

His career was successful though he died reasonably early in the year 1993 but by then he was a household name in the field of wrestling as well as acting. He died a champion and never accepted defeat even in his real life. He is an unforgettable character in the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Fame. He remains a champion and we still see him featured in many games that have been made based on wrestling. Till date, he has remained a trump card.

A serial killer may be better defined as an individual who has decided to avenge himself against society by grabbing his moment of power in a way that excites him the most: homicide. He has killed a thousand times in his mind by the time he actually places his hands over a real victim. The murder is a reenactment of the already fantasized behavior. Law enforcements tend to minimize the presence of serial killers in the communities because they want to avoid scaring the public. However, serial killers do exist and sometimes they wait for years between kills, so the attention on their activities might fade, or some evidence might disappear. Since Jack the Ripper, criminologists suggest that they have been more than 100 known serial killers – just in the West.

The 10 of the Worst Serial Killers of All Time are:

1. Pedro Alonso Lopez

Also known as Monster of the Andes, Lopez is the “father” of all serial killers. He has killed more than 300 young girls in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. His specialty appeared to be abducting children from Indian tribes, and killing them. Lopez was arrested in 1980 and was released in 1998 due to “good behavior” in prison.

2. John Wayne Gacy

Gacy was known for his holiday theme parties, performing as a clown at children’s hospitals and parties. He is known as the Killer Clown, and was convicted for 33 murders of young men and boys in Chicago, although it is believed that there are numerous unidentified crimes also committed by him. He was executed with lethal injection on May 10th, 1994.

3. Joe Ball

Also known as the Alligator Man, Joe Ball was charged with 20 murders of women in 1920s and 30s. He was feeding the alligators in his pond in Texas with living cats and dogs, but soon some women from the nearby regions started vanishing. On September 23, 1938 two Texas rangers entered his house and tried to arrest him, but he shot himself in the heart and died within seconds. The pond was drained and the authorities found the remains of 4 women, and traces of 16 more.

4. Ted Bundy

One of the most notorious serial killers in the US, Ted Bandy was charged with the murders of 30 girls and women. He was executed in Florida’s Electric Chair on January 24th 1989. He was arrested for a murder in Colorado and upon release he asked where in the States it was more likely to be executed if committing murders. When he was told that it would be Georgia or Florida, he headed to Florida and committed his murders there.

5. Gary Ridgeway

Known as the Green River Killer, he became one of the most prolific killers in American history; he assaulted and killed 48 women in the 80s and dumped their bodies in the Green River in Washington. He later admitted more than 90 killings.

6. Andrei Chicatilo

The Citizen X (if you have watched the movie), or the The Ripper of Rostov as he was known, Chicatilo was the worst killer of Ukraine and Europe. He was sexually deviant, and was able to achieve orgasm only when stabbing his victims – mostly young girls and boys. He was active from late 70s to early 90s; the Soviet authorities did not wish to accept that a member of the party was able to become a serial killer so did not arrest him for many years, although he was brought for interrogation with evidence against him. Body count: Officially 53, unofficially more than 90.

7. Henry Lee Lucas

Lucas admitted more than 213 murders in Texas. The police managed to find solid evidence against him for 4 murders – including his mother – and sparse evidence for 200 more. He was condemned to death penalty in 1983 but he was commuted to life sentence by the then Governor George W Bush. He died of natural causes in 2001, age 64.

8. Dean Corll

Known as the Candy man, Corll was responsible for what was later known as the “Houston Mass Murders” in Texas between the years 1970 and 1973. He sexually assaulted and killed at least 27 boys of 9-21 years of age. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

9. Wayne Williams

Williams is known as the Atlanta Child Murderer; he killed more than 29 children in Atlanta from 1979 – 1981. He was sentenced to two life terms.

10. Lavinia Fisher

Although her actions take us back to the 18th century, Lavinia was the first female serial killer. It is not known how many men she had killed, but a fair estimate would be around about 20-30. She and her husband operated a hotel in S. Carolina. They used trap doors, poisons and elaborate murder methods to kill the male guests and keep any cash and goods they had.

Carrot Top’s Career

Carrot Top was originally known as Scott Thompson. Born in Florida in 1965, he began his first stand-up comedy routine in 1983. This was the time when he was still a freshman at the Florida Atlantic University. Again after two months, he did an open mic night telling old jokes to the audience. And while he entered in the next semester, Carrot Top became writing his own jokes which later led to his first comedy prop.

Once the actor got his degree, he began working as a courier delivery boy while he continued to hone his comedy skills. However, frustration got the better for him, and he almost decided to quit doing comedy shows due to strained financial issues. But he got his big break a year later, when he was approached by a club owner for doing comedy in his club. This led to a successful show, and by the end of 1990, he was being booked for shows outside of Florida.

Carrot Top started his career during the 1980’s. Throughout most his career, and especially during the 1990’s, Carrot Top was seen sporting a skinny physique. In fact, his red hair and skinny physique became a unique characteristic about the artist. This cult was originally established in California and was operated under the directives of Bonnie Nettles and Marshall Applewhite. The group was formed during the 1970’s when Applewhite had a ‘near death experience’ in a heart attack. In the year 1997, the most infamous activities came to light when 39 cult members committed suicide after Applewhite brainwashed them by saying the tail of the Hale-Boppe comet actually carried a spaceship that was supposed to take them to the ‘next level’.

The Order of the Solar Temple

The Order of the Solar Temple believed they were continuing the tradition of the Knights Templar who sought the holy grail. This Canadian and European cult made headlines in October 1994 after they murdered a young couple and their baby at the group’s center in Quebec. The three-month old was stabbed with a wooden stake because the cult’s leader, Joseph Di Mambro, proclaimed the baby was the Anti-Christ. Shortly after, arrests were made of the Order’s leaders and a string of murder-suicides resulted in over 70 deaths of the members.
