The week of April 25th didn’t really see much change in the rankings of the LPGA tour world rankings presented by rolex. Michelle Wie is staying put at 9th which, doing the math, means she’s still in the top ten. Although her previous placement at the Nabisco we were hoping for higher, there was no action this week to really move the ladies.

Michelle Wie, for those that don’t remember, or noticed we didn’t provide an update for, placed sixth at the women’s Nabisco Championship in California in early April. That was the first major of the year. The eventual winner of that tournament was Stacey Lewis who now ranks 14th after a movement upwards by her.

Overall top 10 rankings are as follows.

1 — Yani Tseng TPE
2 — Jiyai Shin KOR
3 — Cristie Kerr USA
4 — Na Yeon Choi KOR
5 — Suzann Pettersen NOR
6 — Ai Miyazato JPN
7 — I.K. Kim KOR
8 — Karrie Webb AUS
9 — Michelle Wie USA
10 — Paula Creamer USA

The next tournament is the Avnet LPGA Classic which Michelle Wie will be playing in. We’ll keep you posted on results this time That starts on the 28th of April 2011.

Michelle Wie finished up last year with a few almost wins on the LPGA tour as she settled in to her role as a student at Stanford University. Well this year she’s looking to keep that momentum going as she starts out on the LPGA tour in the first event of the year.

In the first event of the year in Thailand she battle the number one player in the world Yani Tseng. It truly came down to the final day of the event and Michelle Wie ended up coming in second place. A hard fought tournament but she just couldn’t keep pace with Tseng.

Next up was a tournament in Singapore, the HSBC Women’s Champions where the field was pretty even for the first two days with Karrie Webb and Chie Arimura the only ones pulling away. But the third and fourth days proved difficult for most of the field as Wie fell to 8 over and Karrie Webb eventually took the title.

Even with her last showing Michelle Wie is already playing strong and showing the LPGA that she can hang with the rest of the world. The youngster from Hawaii is all grown up and ready to make her splash.

After leading the Canadian Open from the first round through to the last day, Michelle Wie capped off the weekend with a dominating win over her closest competitor and fourth in the world, Jaiya Shin. Michelle Wie earns a $340,000 payout for the win and will surly move up from her 12th ranked spot.

Michelle Wie played great golf all weekend long making putts, driving the ball well, and playing smart. She entered the final round tied with Shin and might have been phased by this were it 2 years ago. But the new and improved Wie is looking in top competitive form against the best in the world.

After this weekend Michelle will play one more tournament before she heads < ahref="http://www.wieblogging.com/2006/12/19/michelle-wie-is-going-to-stanford/">back to school at Stanford.

Yesterday Michelle Wie jumped to an early lead at the Canadian Open and kept it to finish the first day on top. Well, as has been the case with most of her year, it appears she’s done it again with continue her success.

Wie finished day two at the Open with the same lead but didn’t have the hole in one that the first day had. Instead, she kept pace and now leads the field and the closest competitor by 3 strokes. The 20 year old from Hawaii will have her work cut out for her tomorrow as we’ve seen in the past that she tends to fade later in the rounds.

Hopefully that won’t happen and she can continue her success.

Michelle Wie is on the top of another list that isn’t related to a golf tournament.

Michelle Wie is number 4 on the top 20 richest celebrities under 25. The top 4 on the list are athletes with the obvious first going to Lebron James.

Michelle Wie, who struggled this year in golf tournaments still brought in $19 million. Most of that sponsor money from people banking on her expected golf talent.

The next tournament that she could be involved in the Sony Open, might not even happen for her even though Sony is one of her sponsors. Tadd Fujikawa has already been invited and Michelle Wie will probably be next on the list.

Another year down, another agent leaves Team Wie.

Greg Nared who was hired last year by the William Morris Agency whom manages Wie, said he is resigning his position as VP of Golf and also Michelle Wie’s agent. So what does this mean for Wie, why did he resign?

We’re not really sure and it doesn’t look like the agency is talking very much about the issue but we did find this quote from and AP article

“While we are sorry that Greg will no longer be handling the road management of Michelle, we wish to thank him for his work and wish him the best going forward,” Jesse Derris, a spokesman for the Wie family, said in a statement. “The core group of agents handling Michelle’s business relationships remains intact, as it has from day one of her professional career.”

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if this means Michelle Wie will get an agent that will focus on building both her game and her pocket book.

A score that would have meant something had it come in the first round.

Michelle Wie finished the 20 person tournament at 18-over-par. With her final round under par she just squeeked out of last place finishing 19th and earning $13,125. Michelle ended 37 strokes behind the winner Lorena Ochoa.

Michelle Wie’s day was far from her previous 3 days of 7-over, 7-over and 5-over. With only 6 holes left she was at 3-under and on her way to playing as well as the leader on the final day (Lorena was 6 under for the day.) But she then faltered with a bogey and double bogey. A birdie in between was her only saving grace to bring her back to under par.

I thought this title was a little goofy over the Honolulu Advertiser, Wie improves by two strokes at Samsung event. I guess she did improve. She went from two consecutive days of 7 over par to a day of 5 over par. That’s definitely moving in the right direction.

But overall she sits in last place in a field most thought she shouldn’t even be considered for a sponsor exemption in. 19 over after 3 days. She had again today more bogeys and even a triple bogey!

The leader, Lorena Ochoa, sits at 12 under through 3 days of play.

I think a sponsors exemption may have backfired for her sponsors. True she hasn’t played for a while but it might have been best to keep it that way until she get into some larger fields with less hype and be one of the crowd over par rather than a sore thumb on the tournament big board.

That brings her two day total to 14 over par and a last place.

The leader Lorena Ochoa is still on the course and sitting at 5 under par for the day 9 under overall for the tournament. Closest to Michelle in the back of the pack is Bettina Hauert who sits at 13 under par for the two days.

Michelle will be able to continue trying to better her scores through the weekend as there is no cut in the 20 person tourney.
