To fit your wig onto your head yourself is really quite simple once you acquaint yourself with the inside of the wig and fit it on yourself a couple of times.  Follow the simple instructions below and practice and play around with it until you feel confident before any outing or special occasion.

1. First acquaint yourself with the inside of your wig.
2. Inside the wig there is a definite structure finishing with an edge.  This is known as the cap of the wig.
3. Inside the cap there is a label. This is the back of the wig.
4. A little further around the edge of the cap on either side there are 2 elastic straps.  These are so that you can tighten the wig should it feel a little loose.
5. You tighten them by simply lifting the Velcro tag on the end of the elastic and placing them a little further along the soft comfort band at the back, so it makes the inside of the cap smaller, until you are happy with the fit.

6. Above those straps again on the edge of the cap there is a little section on either side that are known as the ear tabs.  Inside these ear tabs feels quite stiff. They should be turned slightly inwards and can be bent so that the cap lies flat at the sides instead of sticking out at the temples.

7. These ear tabs go over the top of your ears but not covering them.  The cap of the wig should not cover your ears.   It should follow your natural hairline.
8. To put on your wig after acquainting yourself with its structure, secure your own hair as flat as possible either by clipping it flat or putting on a wig liner.
9. Find the centre front so you know roughly where it is and then hold the ear tabs level on either side.  Slip your head inside the wig from the front as if you were putting a hat on and ease the back down until your wig is level with your own natural hairline at the front.  Do not come lower down your forehead or your wig will look unnatural.

10. Check that your ear tabs are level.  If one side is slightly higher than the other then your wig is not on straight so adjust it until they are level.
11. Make sure that you are happy with the fit or if the straps need adjusting.
12. When you are happy with the fit make sure that no stray hairs of your own hair are showing.  If there are any tuck them inside securely.
13. You can now dress your wig into style.
14. If the fringe is too long it can be cut to the length you require by your hairdresser.  If you decide to cut it yourself, just take a little off at a time.  Remember it will not grow back again.
15. Once you have combed or brushed it into style you may use a small amount of water soluble hairspray to hold it in place.
16. To help to keep your wig looking lovely for longer, be sure to follow the care label instructions enclosed.
17. To help to keep your wig looking fresher for longer remember to keep a separate wig brush just for your wig so that you are not transferring grease from your own hair onto your wig.

The clarifying shampoo will remove all traces of hair products like hairspray, gel, wax or conditioner so that the extensions bond well and adhere properly to the hair.  Never apply conditioner before applying extensions as this will prevent a good bond.

Wash and dry the hair before applying the extensions.

When applying the extensions you must be careful where they are applied.  Normally they must not be applied above the rounded bulbous section of the back of the head, or they will look unnatural and will show.

If the last section is placed just below the prominent section of the back of the skull, they will look far more natural because the clients own hair will give adequate cover over the top section.

They should never be applied within ¾ to 1 inch of the natural hairline or they will show.  They must be below a parting at the front by 1 inch or they will show.  Do not apply near the crown or they will show.  They will look far more natural lower down the back of the head.

Always be careful to make sure that the extensions are applied so they fall with the natural direction in which the client’s hair naturally falls and do not stand away from the scalp or your client will have a sore head.  There should never be any tension right against the scalp or your client again will have a sore head and become head sore.  You then run the risk that she will never want extensions put in again.  It is better to place them approximately ¼ inch away from the scalp, rather than right up to the scalp to relieve any tension or pressure off the scalp.

The customer must not wash her hair for at least 24 hours after the extensions have been applied to allow the glue to cure properly.

When her hair is then washed if she wishes, care must be taken to choose the correct type of product to use.  She should then NOT USE a strong clarifying shampoo because this product will not only remove all hair products and grease from the hair but it will also remove parts of the glue.  A gentle mild shampoo should now be used so it doesn’t affect the glue.

When applying conditioner never apply it to the scalp or bond of the extensions as it will remove them.  Conditioner can be applied only to the middle length and ends of the hair.

When drying never apply a hot hairdryer against the scalp or onto the bond of the extension as it will melt the glue.

HOME AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLIENTS AFTER HAVING SKIN WEFTS OR PRE-BONDED EXTENSIONS.

Please be sure to read all the following homecare instructions carefully and that you understand them, so that your extensions will last longer.  If you are unsure please ask your hairdresser for help.

1. When you have just had your extensions fitted, it is essential that you DO NOT SHAMPOO YOUR HAIR FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS AFTER BEING FITTED.  This allows the glue to cure or set properly otherwise you risk loosening your extensions.
2. You must only use a mild shampoo and not a clarifying shampoo or again you risk loosening your extensions as a clarifying shampoo will remove the glue.
3. Do not use hot water as this can soften the keratin bond.  Warm water is best.
4. A conditioner should be used now but NEVER APPLIED TO THE BONDS OR GLUE OF THE SKIN WEFTS as it will loosen the bond or glue.  When applying your conditioner apply only to the mid length and ends and work through gently using your fingers like a comb to detangle you hair.

5. Ultra violet light (sunlight) can strip colour from both your own hair and your extensions.  If your hair is going to be exposed to strong sunlight it is advisable to use a conditioner with U.V. protection built in and cover your hair if necessary.
6. When drying your extensions with a hair dryer only use a warm temperature not a hot setting and try to avoid actually placing the heat of the dryer onto the bond or skin section of the skin wefts as this can also loosen your extensions.
7. The sea, sand and swimming pools can also damage and alter the colour of your own hair and also your extensions.  Please use a rubber bathing cap when swimming to protect your hair.
8. Colouring can be done on human hair extensions should it be required but must only be carried out by a qualified stylist.
9. Your stylist should always do a test strand to see if the colouring can be done.

If the hair remains strong and accepts the colour, the colouring process can go ahead.  If the hair becomes brittle or burnt and breaks off then the product is too strong and should not be done with the product chosen.

11. If you follow the above instructions your extension will last you longer.

Common questions answered:

Can I colour Luscious Locks Skin Wefts Extensions of Wig-O-Mania or get a perm?

In principle both options are possible, but require special knowledge. We use Remy hair which is first bleached and then dyed to achieve the desired colour. While bleaching or lighter colouring is not possible, darker colour washes or dying is. During a perm, in particular, it is crucial that the treatment is performed only by a specialist who understands that the extensions have already been bleached and heavily processed.

Are the splices noticeable?

The adhesive tapes for splicing are not noticeable. In some cases, directly after applying the extensions, some might feel a bit of a “pinch” for one or two days, since the hair extensions are fastened directly to the hair roots. Otherwise, the connections are so flat, flexible and soft that they meld to the head directly, and even when stroking the hair with hands, the splices cannot be felt.

How often can Luscious Locks Skin Wefts Extensions of Wig-O-Mania be reused?

The extensions can be reused approx. two or three times depending upon the level of care. The more care, the longer the hair extension remains healthy, shiny and fit for use. The splice can be cleaned and renewed without limit again and again.

Human hair wigs

Synthetic wigs

• “Ready to go” – synthetic-hair wigs come ready styled.
• The wigs retain their original look even after washing.
• Value for money
• Low maintenance
• Large choice of models

Disadvantages

• The hair cannot take any heat.
• You have to decide between straight or curly hair and the hairstyle cannot then be changed.
• The wigs do not last as long as human-hair wigs (around a year)
• Can only be washed with a special shampoo.

 

High Heat Fibre – ‘Just like Human Hair’

Advantages:

• Hard-wearing Fibre
• Natural looking Fibre as human hair
• Due to its resistance to heat, the Fibre can be blow-dryed. It can be styled and shape to almost every individual wish
• This Fibre is available in grey tones
• When styling using heat appliance, the new style remains intact until once again restyled with heat

Disadvantages:

• Not possible to colour
• Not possible to perm

Firstly turn the wig upside down and give the wig a gentle shake to loosen up the fibres. Identify the front and the back of the wig. There is always a label and velcro sizing tabs at the back. Don’t worry too much about doing up the tabs as they can be adjusted later for a better fit. Hold the wig at the back and place the front part over your forehead and pull it over your head, using your fingers to ensure any hair is kept clear of you face. The wig should fit securely but not be too tight. If it is then remove the wig and adjust the velcro tabs and put the wig on again for a better fit.

Synthetic wigs

Washing

Gently brush the wig thoroughly with a wig brush or use your fingers to untangle any or all of the hair fibres. Fill a sink with cold water or use a large bowl (whichever you find easier) and add a small amount of wig shampoo. These shampoos are especially formulated for use on wigs, so do not use ordinary shampoos. Then, Immerse the wig in the water for a few minutes ensuring that the water and shampoo covers the whole of the wig without rubbing the wig. Take the wig out of the sink or bowl and after draining refill the sink or bowl with cold water again and soak the wig in the water to rinse. Repeat this several times if necessary. Those using long wigs would benefit from washing them using the shower attachment. This way the wigs remain hanging downwards, thus greatly reducing the risk of the wig becoming tangled again. Once the wig is fully washed and free from all traces of the shampoo, turn the wig inside out and holding the middle of the cap from the inside shake off any excess water. Assemble a plastic wig stand and place the wig on their and leave to dry for about two hours and the wig is ready to style.

Styling

Once the wig is dry gently tease the fibres with your fingers to free up any tangled fibres before using a special wig brush or comb. Avoid using a brush designed for human hair. These brushes can create excessive tension, over-stretching the hair with abrasive strokes that may damage the hair. You are now ready to put some extra styling into your wig if you wish to or leave in the pre set style. The best styling tool is a spray bottle of clean water. Lightly spray your wig with water to remove static electricity and return your wig to its original look. To achieve style variations a liquid wig mousse is good styling tool. For curly or wavy styles, just mousse, hand scrunch, and pick the style into curls. On straight styles, mousse and brush the wig lightly. Your wig was designed with a basic style but the variations you can achieve through styling are limitless. Added height can be achieved by gently lifting with the wig comb. If you want added fullness as well, tease or back-comb and then smooth the surface hair over the teasing. Your wig can be returned to its basic style by washing it and allowing it to air dry.

Caring for a wig

Use products that are specifically designed for wigs, as these products are designed for synthetic hair. They will also help to keep the wig looking natural by not stripping away the colour or the natural sheen. using these products will help the wig to last longer. Keep your wig stored on a wig stand or other makeshift item (such as a roll of kitchen roll). This will help it hold its style and shape. Always when you take off a wig, just comb it through with your fingers to free up the fibres before putting it away.

What to avoid

Do not expose your wig to any unnecessary heat (Like opening an oven door, standing near a barbecue grill, etc.) as this will damage the wig fibers and cause wig fibers to frizz and melt.
Never brush your wig when wet.
Do not use any form of curling irons, hot rollers or blow dryers. Again, heat will totally ruin the wig.
Do not use products designed for regular human hair. Only use special wig shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, mousses, and brushes or combs made especially for wigs.
Do not use bleaches, colours, or rinses on your wig. This also applies to wearing your wig in a swimming pool, as the chlorine in the water will act as a bleaching agent.
If you smoke the tar from the cigarette smoke will get into the fibres of your wig and you will ruin it. Avoid contact will all tobacco products completely.

Human Hair Wigs

Washing and Setting

Human hair wigs should be washed in cool to luke-warm water with a mild shampoo and conditioner. Using a conditioner is also recommended to reduce tangling. Wash the wig a similar way to synthetic wigs and dry in the same way. Those using long wigs would benefit from washing them using the shower attachment. This way the wigs remain hanging downwards, thus greatly reducing the risk of the wig becoming tangled. Human hair wigs can be set when wet. After washing, comb the hair then set in rollers or dry with a hair dryer on a low heat. Simply teat the wig in the same way as your own hair.

Styling, combing and brushing

There are no problems using curling tongs, heated rollers or any other products on a human hair wig. Most wig caps are designed to be unaffected by the heat but additional care must be taken when styling a wig with a skin-like cap as the plastic in the cap material can melt under heat.
If wig hair gets frizzy, try any sheen spray or wig spray to calm the frizziness and then comb. If not, wash then set with setting lotion to get the frizziness out. When wigs are tangled, use any detangling or sheen spray then comb the hair. Any hair products such as gel, moose or sprays can be used on these wigs, as they are washable.
