In my mind the most important thing that happened on tonight’s Big Brother 10 was that the division in the house really solidified. Last night we saw the Jessie-Angie-Memphis-Michele (JAMM) Alliance come into being. Even though these four seem to think they are being subtle about their alliance the other house guests can see the writing on the wall. In response, Keesha, Ollie, April, and Libra (KOAL) defined their alliance as a separate, counterpoint to JAMM. The mistake KOAL made was in allowing Steven to be voted out. He could have been a powerful member of their alliance, while Dan is pretty much in Jessie and Michelle’s hip pocket. They should not have been afraid to fire the first shot. I think that if they want to be able to effectively counter the JAMM alliance they are going to have to bring in the other floaters namely, Renny (groan) and Jerry.

The fact that Keesha won Head of Household is definitely a big plus for the KOAL alliance. They are going to have to be very smart about who they nominate and whether they should back door someone. Memphis and Jessie are the obvious choices for elimination. Both of them are powerful physical competitors and Memphis could really be a strong leader of the JAMM alliance. I would focus on getting him out of the house. Dan, Jerry, and especially Renny make easy targets who are less likely to cause open warfare but I think they ahould weaken the opposition while you have a chance.

Big Brother 10 Episode 5 - July 22 2008

Tonight’s episode of Big Brother 10 was almost exciting. There was the serious potential for some good old fashioned back stabbing at the last moment. By the end of the episode, much to my disappointment, nothing had really changed.

Jessie, Michelle, Memphis, and Angie formed BB10’s first official alliance. Memphis is the brains behind the operation. He picked Angie because she was physically and mentally strong. Jessie and Memphis have a lot of unofficial allies like Libra, April, and Dan as well. These three had better watch out because Jessie et. al., will eventually sell them down the river.

Keesha really likes Steven and said she might use the Power of Veto to save him. This did not sit well with her former allies. Luckily for Steven he picked her name when it was time to select names out of the hat for PoV players. Jessie picked Michelle’s ma,e which was fine with him since she is part of his alliance. Dan selected Libra which he thought was good because she wouldn’t change the nominations and Dan thinks he stands a good chance to win against Steven. He might unless the rest of their house gets themselves organized to fight against Jessie and his crew. Michelle snagged the PoV making both Dan and Jessie happy since Michelle didn’t take Steven off the block.

Keesha was mad that everyone thought she was going to change the nominations and take Steven off of the block. Keesha said she was just trying to win to prove herself by not using it on Steven which even I don’t believe. Keesha blames Libra for instigating the bad will against her in the house. Keesha went and complained to Jessie and Memphis. They agreed that Libra was a back stabbing, troublemaker who needs to go too. Keesha went to Renny and Jerry to get them on board with back dooring Libra. Renny helped Keesha get Jerry spun up against Libra causing Jerry and Libra and then Renny and Libra to get into shouting matches. Then came the big let down. Michelle wimped out when the time came to use the PoV so that Libra could be nominated. Michelle should have used it on Dan to let Jessie nominate Libra. She is a troublemaker so it would have been a safe move, and Steven and Keesha would have then owed her. I was so looking forward to seeing the look on Libra’s face. Oh well, maybe next week.

The CW Announces Its Fall 2008 Schedule

The CW Network has just released their upcoming fall schedule for 2008. This network continues to develop and add to its core shows. This time around they’ll have Gossip Girl back in the line-up along with their biggest news: the 90210 remake.

90210 will be back on September 2 with lots of the original cast including: Tori Spelling, Shannen Doherty, and Jennie Garth. Luke Perry is still saying no, unless Aaron Spelling is attached. Psst, Luke, Aaron Spelling is kinda dead!

Big Brother 10 Episode 4 - July 20 2008

Compared to all of the drama last week, tonight’s episode of Big Brother 10 was almost a little disappointing. Now that Jessie is Head of Household he is even more annoying than last week. His HoH room was filled with pictures of himself which he was thrilled to discuss with everyone. Throughout the episode Jessie kept telling everyone who would listen that he wasn’t just some meathead that he was smart as well. I can’t say I agree with him though. The only thing even close to annoying as Jessie was everyone else in the house kissing his butt. The only good thing about him being HoH is that Renny is keeping her mouth shut.

Tonight’s episode could have been entitles House Guest Confessions. Steven came clean about the fact that he is gay. Dan the catholic school teacher was actually pretty open minded about Steven’s sexuality. Keesha and Steven then bonded over their love for their dogs. Jerry told everyone about his wife and Memphis confessed to April and Libra about his love for his girlfriend.

To be honest I figured that Jessie would put up Renny and Angie. Jessie has had a gripe against Renny since day one. Jessie also seemed to have it in for Angie. Her campaigning for Brian at the last moment really pissed him off. Like Angie, Dan also went to talk with Jessie. Unlike, Angie, Dan struck a chord with Jessie and almost saved himself in the process. In the end, to my surprise, Jessie’s nominations were Steven and Dan. Despite Dan’s honesty, Jessie nominated him because of the loyalty he showed for Brian by being the only one in the house to vote for Renny. Steven went up on the block because Jessie thought he didn’t show him the respect as HoH. While I still don’t think Jessie is a real brain surgeon, these were some pretty smart nominations since Dan and Steven could have formed the nucleus of the resistance to his alliance.

So You Think You Can Dance Results - July 17, 2008

There were no surprises on tonight’s So You Think You Can Dance results show. The two girls who received the fewest votes were Comfort and Kherington. Comfort was already voted off the show once and her performances last night were pretty mediocre. Kherington is a fun dancer but she is still young. As we get down to the the final few dancers her lack of training and experience is beginning to tell.

The two guys in the bottom two tonight were Mark and Gev. Both of these guys are good but have received quite a bit of criticism. They have both also been paired with two of the best girls Chelsea and Courtney. I think the appearance of their dancing has suffered since being split up. Well, that and Will, Joshua, and Twitch are all damn good dancers.

When Cat finally announced that the two dancers going home tonight it was Gev and Kherington. I would have thought it was going to be Comfort and Mark. As I said Comfort was already kicked off the show once and I really thought that Gev was a better dancer than Mark. In any case, that just means Comfort and Mark will get sent home next week.

Andy Dick Arrested For Drunken Behavior

Oh that crazy, zanny Andy Dick was up to it again. Known for his over-the-top antics, Dick has definitely gone too far this time and is now facing some serious charges for it:

Andy Dick has been arrested on suspicion of drug possession and sexual battery. Police picked the comic up in Murieta, California early on Wednesday morning after revellers at a local bar reported Dick’s inappropriate behavior. They told the authorities he had pulled a 17-year-old female’s T-shirt and bra down to expose her breasts after leaving the bar.

Police stopped Dick and friends as they drove away from the establishment in a truck. During a curbside search, police reportedly found marijuana and Xanax in Dick’s pockets.

Who am I kidding? This happened in California. I’m pretty sure celebrities get paid to break the law and do drugs there. Jail time that Andy is likely to serve? Zip.

The Retroactive Review: The Burbs

The Burbs

In “The Burbs,” a black comedy directed by Joe Dante (“Gremlins”) Ray (Tom Hanks) and Carol (Carrie Fisher) Peterson are living out their quaint little existence in a stereotypical suburban neighborhood.

It’s all green grass and white picket fenches until a mysterious family, the Klopeks, move in next door. Ray’s two neighbors, freeloader Art (Rick Ducommun) and military nutcase Rumsfield (Bruce Dern) believe the Klopeks are actually a family of murderers who killed Walter, the old man in next door.

Now Ray, along with the other two civilians-turned-detectives, attempt to solve the mystery before any other neighbors coincidentally turn up missing.

“The Burbs” is one of those classic comedies from the ‘80s. It’s got Tom Hanks at the peak of his nice guy streak, following up other big success such as “The Money Pit” and “Big.” This film is often overlooked and generally underrated, but offers a ton of laughs and some great comedic performances.

Bruce Dern as the ex-soldier who hasn’t quite left his military roots is wonderful. He’s got all of these conspiracy theories and you really get the sense that he believes every one of them. He’s convinced the Klopeks are brain-sucking murders, and he constantly devises numerous ways to find out if they really are.

What would an ‘80s movie be without Corey Feldman? Yes, the star of “Stand By Me” and “Gremlins” plays Ricky, a dopey teenage neighbor who watches the events of the movie unfold from the comfort of his front porch.

These characters are so well acted and so unfeasibly wacky that you just have to believe there is a neighborhood somewhere with people like this. It’s also unnerving in a way, as we’ve all heard horror stories about what was going on in the next door neighbor’s basement – and “The Burbs” certainly plays on those fears as well.

All in all, while “The Burbs” isn’t the tightest film with most well constructed narrative, it is a sorely underappreciated comedy that is sure to make you laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Big Brother 10 Episode 3 - July 16 2008

After Brian got backdoored Tuesday night on Big Brother 10 he had a lot of work to do. Brian hatched a plan to split the other house guests and increase the number of house guests who like him. He did his best to make them laugh even going so far as choreographing a puppet show. Angie totally fell under his spell. She tried to convince Keesha to vote for Renny instead. This resulted in a big blow up between April and Keesha.

Brian tried to be so smooth when Julie asked why the house guests should vote to evict Renny instead of him. He is such a snake oil salesman. When it was her turn, Renny, as usual, was incapable of making a coherent statement.

In the end, Brian was voted out by a vote of 9 to 1. Dan was the only house guest to vote for Brian. Even Jessie who has been going head to head with Renny since day 1 voted for Brian. Steven and Angie were smart in still voting for Brian. They went with the rest of the house, which will help keep them from being targets (especially Angie). Lets see if Dan’s decision to vote for Renny was a good one or a bad one. By not going along with the rest of the house he could have made himself a target. On the other hand, it does show that Dan is someone who will keep his word once it is given.

Jessie won HoH which will probably mean that Renny will enjoy another week on the block. I’m not sure who else he might nominate. I’m looking forward to see what happens now. Brian was able to unify the house against him. This is a pretty impressive accomplishment in less than a week. Without him, the house will have a chance to form factions.

Big Brother 10 Episode 2 - July 15 2008

On Big Brother 10 last night, Brian is playing master puppeteer this week. He was really annoying about. He’s no Doctor Will. He made a mistake telling everyone that he had Jerry in his back pocket. Brian is made himself a target with this nonsense. His talk has already forced the girls into the alliance against Brian and his faction. The girls have lured Ollie to their side. Ollie in turn orchestrated the revolution against Brian resulting in 9 of the house guests confronting Jerry and demanding that he put up Brian in Jessie’s place. When Jerry heard about it he was very disappointed in Brian. I think Brian got what he deserved for taking advantage of that old man and thinking he was a playa. I feel bad for Jerry but I don’t think he is going to last long either.

I was a little disappointed that Jessie won the Power of Veto. I really dislike that little cry baby. Renny is also one of the most annoying individual on the face of the planet. As much as I would like to see her go this week, the smart move is to get rid of Brian. He is the bigger threat. Renny is so annoying that she will be up again soon enough anyway.

I can’t wait to see Brian try to get himself out of this mess tonight. Renny needs to be smart and keep her mouth shut until the voting (By the way, what the Hell did she say when Jessie asked her why he should use the POV on her? I didn’t understand a thing she said.).

Grace is called to a crime scene that happens to be the home of Paul Shapiro, whose father died in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building . Since then, Paul has been in and out of trouble. At the crime scene, there is blood everywhere, but no body. Ham has separated from his wife and moved out on his own, giving him and Grace more freedom to be together. They wind up in a ketchup-and-mustard situation that soon becomes a running joke in the squad room.
