My T Shirt quilts are my favorite item. I have made a ton of them - initially for high school graduates. Since then I have made quite a few memory quilts. I find that it is quite moving to be working with very tangible pieces of someone's life. In one case it was tees from a 12 year old boy. In another, a young husband. Recently, tees from dads and husbands to be given as gifts to spouses and children. I love the idea that the T Shirt quilt becomes a practical item and I envision the customer wrapping themselves up in the memory of a loved one.

People are most inspirational to me. I love to read biographies and true-life stories - especially survival stories. I'm intrigued by the determination of the human spirit, leadership skills and, overall, the extraordinary lives or ordinary people. Some books/people that I have been inspired by: Shackleton (Endurance), A Beautiful Mind, The Soloist, Shadow Divers, The Book of Mychal. Truman & John Adams (McCullough) to name a few.

Unintentional Hiatus

Yes, okay, so I'm dumb. It's Tuesday. I'm sure most of you knew that, but the MLK holiday threw me a bit. So our next Manic Monday feature (with the awesome Maiden Jane) will be next Monday. Because, like I said, I'm a little dumb. Maybe a lot dumb.

But today IS my birthday (I'm 30!), so, um... that means you have to forgive me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Meanwhile, if you want a feature for yourself, sign up here!

What are your favorite items in your shops?
I really love the Watercolor Helleborus. One of my favorite flowers and was difficult to recreate because of the color variation. It forced me to create a new process of coloring my flowers.

And of course I love the Star Wars Aprons in my Genre shop, because they are recycled and so cool.

What is most inspirational to you?
I adore the Dalai Lama and Maya Angelou, both have been through so much pain and loss in their lives and are still full of Joy, Grace and a kind giving Spirit. I truly admire those who give without question, and try to do that whenever I can.

What is your favorite quote?

So many good ones, but I gotta admit that this IS my favorite. From the movie ""Moonstruck"". Not altruistic or spiritually moving, just delightful.

Wilde Designs is now officially open for business once again! Vintage, geeky goods and creative stuff like art and jewelry are now all housed in one convenient location.

There's still a few descriptions and meta data that may be lacking, but everything's up for sale and you can always let us (my hubby and I) know if you have any questions at all. We are so excited to be back in business, and I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of the new site. We now officially have a teaser page, and soon we will have a whole shop up! With the help of my wonderful husband, Wilde Designs will be up and running before long. There will be new graphics, a shiny new location and in the future brand new items to boot. We'll likely just have the handmade section up to start out, but the vintage items and even some resale supplies and other goodies will likely pop up after that, so stay tuned!

Down & Confused

Well, after nearly five years of selling with Etsy, all of my shops have been closed. No, not by me. I was finally having some success, was really pleased with my progress. No, my shops were closed by Etsy. They didn't even bother to email me about the closing of two of them. One was shut down for copyright violation. The other two, neither of which featured any copyrighted material (one featured entirely original art, the other entirely vintage goods) were shut down without a word from Etsy or any explanation.

I will be finding another way and place to sell. I'm just not sure where. Several of my designs are available via DeviantArt and Cafepress in the meantime, so I hope you'll check those out and tune in here, on Twitter and on Facebook for updates. Thank you all for your support!

Nursery Goodness

We worked hard on getting Pike's nursery ready (click here to read about his birth if you're interested), and I just realized I never shared it with all of you. Unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to take before and after images, but hopefully my descriptions will help. If you're curious about how we did anything I mention, just ask!

We managed to get a great deal on a great dresser through Craigslist. Not only is it a cute dresser, it has a topper for a changing table. You just flip that shelf-looking part down and you've got plenty of room for the changing pad and the junk you need to change the baby. We painted the honey-colored dresser blue to go with the underwater theme (when I say "we," I mean my husband). We left the changing topper since that's going to be temporary and will be removed (yep, it comes off - win!) when Pike gets older. We then got some vinyl decals at this shop on Etsy and put little swimming fish on it.

This view shows the crib (also a Craigslist find) and some of the other decals that we put up. Under the crib, we stashed his whale tub (a gift from a sweet friend whose daughter had outgrown it).

We got this glider at a garage sale, and I found some cushions on Amazon. The footstool came with it, but I hated the faux fur covering. I bought some cute whale print fabric and recovered it with Wes' help. Voila! The shelf and table are from IKEA, and the little storage ottoman is from Walmart.

And that's the story! We kept the cost down and ended up with (I think) a really adorable nursery for Pike to come home to.
