Things are all quiet in the shops from now through to May 30th, however there are 3 dates you should def' pop on the old vintage calendar if you are in NYC! May 18th we shall be selling at the Hester Fair on the Lower East Side, 10-6pm.....June 16th-17th we will be a vendor at the fabulous Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island and on May 30th in Greenpoint Dusty Rose Vintage is hosting a fun clothing swap from 7-10pm in their warehouse, I shall post the address soon as I have more details....out with the old and in with the, er, old!

I wasn't really going to write a "I had a baby" post but well, this guy has impacted my working life so much I decided to jot down some thoughts, none of it very deep but maybe some new mothers, and ladies who aren't mothers can identify. A few people told me that when Wolf came, all my worries and fears for my vintage biz would dissolve, pretty much in a haze of baby love.....I gotta tell you that this did not actually happen and day 3 into being home from the hospital I spied some unlisted vintage and wanted to get back to work....pronto. Which I did. Photographing, measuring, cleaning. Every minute this guy wasn't on my boobs I was working.....but here's the thing: after this whirlwind I had rather a collapse. After 6-8 weeks I was EXHAUSTED. Not only was I more tired than I had ever been in my life but I was falling kinda madly in love more and more every day with the Wolfster. I realized that I had been trying to fit him into my "old life" whereas the cold, hard (well, soft and warm really) truth was that he *is* my new life and my old life, including work, was going to have to fit in around him. After this realization hit I had about a week of depression, so many "what the f**k have I got myself into" moments and at times out and out jealousy every time my husband went downstairs to his shop where he got to talk to adults, drink red wine and all that stuff. The fog has lifted a little though and now that this guy comes first things have gotten a lot easier, if I can't get things done then too bad, no photos today? oh well. Letting go of my extreme control freak tendencies is so hard, hell I got to 40 completely pleasing myself, not really ever wanting to have a family and spending hours doing what I love every day. But shit. Those big blue peepers staring up at me from the bassinet in the mornings just slay me, one tiny smile and my heart explodes, and this was a bit of a cold fish heart! So there you go. Having said all of the above I want a 3rd Etsy shop and this guy is clearly going to have to grow much faster so he can be my assistant. Vintage + babies = a fine madness.

oh god I am a complete sucker for tattered, torn and distressed Edwardian....it is SO beautiful and I can not leave it behind. help. me. what is worse is that I have an idea for a 3rd Etsy shop. I barely have time for the 2 I have....oh dearsies. watch this space.

Love these French 30s magazines and am starting a small collection, the illustrations are so amazing....the above photo I scored at a stoop sale, it is just fabulous right? the little child in the cape! below are two 20s pieces recently listed (or the dress will be shortly!)....p.s NYers save the date: 15-16 June is the Jazz Age Lawn Party, we will be a vendor there as usual, it's a swell day out......x

Hello and a happy Easter weekend to you if you observe it....which I do with lots of chocolate....here are some snaps from the past week around Wildfell headquarters. The Slipperie closet is getting jam packed so I will be figuring out some more space for that in the coming week. I squeezed my butt into a pair of great 70s jeans for the shop and would keep them if they had 1 extra inch for me to breathe in....the Wolf is getting so big and outgrowing all the tiny newborn clothes we have for him, these arrow pants I found on Etsy and are pretty darn adorable....you may recognize the lovely Solanah here in the bustier, I had this top (Fab Gabs Vintage) in my Etsy favorites for ever and this week finally bought it, it might be a squeeze but am determined to wear it for the sunshine that IS COMING.....and the 40s fabulous carnation dress was my fave sale of the past week...maybe even of the month, such a great dress off to a lovely regular customer's vintage home! hope you all had a great week too!

Today I opened a little temporary pop up shop within the shop....the $40 Dress Shop. I have a number of very cute dresses that are simple, wearable and perfect for spring summer days....$40 to me seems like a nice tidy amount to pay for a simple vintage addition to your closet, it's not at all possible for all vintage to be priced like this but some certainly can!....I am not exactly sure how long this little pop up will last but while I have these easy breezy dresses in stock it will stay!

Something about vintage swimsuits that really show off a womanly figure....I am going to get myself one this year and damned if I ain't gonna try and swim more than ever in it! For a vintage seller I really am not much of a collector aside from Edwardian clothing and even then I don't have scores of dresses hoarded away, just a few pieces. I always sell "the good stuff" and barely keep a thing, I also have a tendency to have ultra ruthless "get rid of" days....sometimes I imagine having a really cool rack of great 40s rayon print dresses alongside an entire wall of beautiful tapestry bags, both of these things are real faves of mine. I've decided to keep this here carpet clutch and add it to the one other fabulous bag I have thus starting a very small collection.....I figure if I am going to be a crazy old vintage lady I will need some kind of record of the journey, photos on a computer seems a bit lame somehow.....what do you collect?

Here is a preview of a beautiful kimono coming to the The Slipperie. I would dearly love to stock the shop with a large range of these but to be honest they are so difficult to come across at a price I can afford....vintage kimonos tend to be rather pricey, rightfully so too!....this one really is lovely, the colors are so vivid....it's quite long so you can trail around the house like an old Hollywood movie star....

Not sure about you but I can't wait for some warmer weather....been housebound mostly now for 2 months and I am going a little stir crazy....first swimsuit hit the shop today, wish I filled it out a bit more in the bust area as it's a super comfy style. The dress below screams spring and I think would make a very fun wedding dress....serious bubble hem there! more very pretty florals coming this week.

Very pleased to be launching a new look for Wildfell Hall! I fell in love with KT Smail's super pretty illustrations and she was kind enough to work on some changes for me, I love the way the logo reflects an "older" style of vintage as in the past few months I have really tried to keep the shop pre-60s with just a smattering of later pieces, sometimes no easy task!
Hopefully next time you click on the blog it'll all be fresh and new! ;)

Bare with me.....get it? sleeplessness has clearly made me crazy! Just a little post to my customers who I can't thank enough for being so sweet and supportive of my new Slipperie shop! (maybe not so new now), this little lingerie experiment is creeping closer to 100 sales and I can't quite believe how many fabulous regular WHV customers have crossed over to the "light" side and become regulars here too, it's amazing and really drives me forward! Please bear with me over the next 2 months as I ease into this new motherhood role and balance working in the shops.....both shops will be on a little vacation while my dear Mum visits from New Zealand, roughly the 20th-26th I plan to close them....after that prepare for some super great listings.....thank you for the vintage support!

You have no idea (or maybe you do!) know how great it feels to lose the maternity bra and old jeans and throw on something super nice. First photos back in the clothes for the shop! this 1940s dress rescued from a pile of discarded vintage is now listed in the shop! i really don't think I will have much time to wear the clothes often...but it was fun for today :)

Well. What a week! Last Thursday at 6.01am little Wolf Eli arrived...and when I say arrived it was a fast appearance....out having dinner at 8.30....full labor by 1am....pain relief at 4am....baby at 6. Holy bloody moly. Now that this guy is here we can't imagine not having him around, he's a treat and has just slept for 3 hours letting me do a bunch of work here in the vintage room and finish a glorious cappuccino. Here's some pics around these parts from the last week, some very sweet vintage coming up in the next 2 weeks, The Slipperie should be open next week also!

If you guys are still with me after seeing the naked orb that is our new little man then congrats! (always was a bit of a nudist).
I sometimes look in the mirror and can't believe this is my body, I guess it's kinda only half mine right now. Here's why I am most afraid of this guy's very imminent arrival: he's new. Not old. I like old things, I know what to do with them, how to care for them. New things I know nothing about!
I spent the first 7 months panicked about basic things. How will I know when he's full? How will I know if he's cold? How will I know when he's sick? Now that I am a little more comfortable with this whole thing I am now panicked about my business that I LOVE more than anything. How will I shop? How will I take photos? How will I list stuff? I really, really love what I do and thankfully have a super amazing husband who has a business right below our apartment so with our flexible schedules we are both hoping that, obviously after a hiatus, I can continue to run both shops. It seems like the best thing to do at this point is just "imagine" how I'd like it to be and go from there. So, Wildfell and The Slipperie will be staying, our baby will sleep many glorious hours, I'll go back to a 25" waist and the cat will stay out of the crib......ha ha ha ha ha.....oh god wish me luck. Countdown to due date is 12 days.
