Spanning over an area of around 3568 square kilometers, the Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary is a place where you will find yourself surrounded by the best wildlife pleasures and the most fascinating wildlife experiences.

With the best collection of the cormorants, catla, murrel, rahu, karugu, ech, painted storks, chidwa, teals, herons, cormorants, coots, spoon bills, black and white ibises, storks etc, the Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary is a haven for all nature lovers.

The bird sanctuary spreads over an area of around 20 square kilometers and is also home to some of the best varieties. The park also has a lovely collection of marsh crocodiles.

There is an interesting Environmental Education Centre which also has a museum, an auditorium and a library. This museum mainly aims at educating the visitor about the place and introducing the concept of conservation of nature and maintenance of ecological balance here.

Visitors normally take the boat to reach the sanctuary and bird watching enthusiasts love to come here and enjoy the pleasures of the best sights of the birds here. Armed with binoculars and books, these bird lovers also like to enjoy the film shown on birds on a 16mm projector.

The Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary is also home to some of the best kinds of molluscs, prawns and Zoo planktons, reptilian varieties like the fresh water turtles, monitor lizards, marsh crocodiles and cobra.

The sanctuary has a dense growth of babul trees and the place also has water plants like vallisneria, pistia, hydrilla and eichornia.

How to Reach

Manjira is very near the city of Hyderabad, which is around 150 kilometres from here.

The dense vegetation of the state of Andhra Pradesh provides the ideal wildlife locale for the Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary and it is an intrigue to see the collection of deciduous forests and mangroves. The Nallmalai region has the loveliest amalgamation of deciduous trees and the Coringa mangrove belt has a great variety of mangroves. This is thus an ideal spot for the wildlife variety.

Besides the amazing species of birds and reptiles in the Manjira verdant expanse, one also finds the tiger, wild boar, panther, fox, jungle muntjak and the gaur here. You also have the spotted deer, wild dog and the sloth bear which add to the beauty of the region. Fishing cats are common here and also the salt water crocodiles.

Located near Sangareddy in the district of Medak, the sanctuary lies between the Singur and the Manjira barrages.

Said to be created out of nine small islands, this region is a hub of migratory birds, wild animals and also muggers. The Puttigadda, Sangamadda, Bapangadda and the Karnamgadda are some of the islands of this region. They are also the main breeding and nesting places for the birds here. The birds nest here due to the thick vegetation of the region.

Crocodiles are found in plenty here as mentioned earlier. These number more than 300 in the sanctuary. In the year 1974, in fact the mugger had reached a stage of extinction in the state of Andhra Pradesh. But the Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary today has preserved four pairs of the muggers as it provides an original habitat for the mugger. This area where the muggers are found is today declared as a crocodile sanctuary spanning over 20 square kilometers. There is a crocodile breeding program that is conducted here.

The best time to visit the Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary is from November to March.

Wildlife sanctuary zones are created to protect the animals and preserve their species. These zones allow the animals, birds and reptiles to live at their own pace and at their will. This results in a good collection of their own species. So the Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary provides not only the right habitat, but also the best sights for the tourist.

Come to the land of Botswana and enjoy the lovely pleasures of being in the vast expanse of Makgadikgadi in the Botswana region. Come here to feel how well you could see the beauty of Mother Nature and how exotic the entire locale here.

There are many salt pans that remain here and this is a place that was a great lake many years back. This is a land that has many desert adapted species. With the seasonal rains and the attractive grasslands that are home to the most fascinating grazers and thus it is called “The Serengeti of the South”. During rain, there are many zebra and wildebeest which migrate to the lovely grasslands here. So see the flamingoes come and flock the entire place and see how they feed in the waters filled with algae. This is a region with a very low rainfall sot his is a sight that lasts only for a short time. Then there are the pans that provide ultimate delight and this is certainly a great sight for all the nature lovers.

So this is a transformation from a dry land to a wet land and this change is very extreme and also special. There are grasslands that are bordered with palm trees and so the Baobab trees have branches which look more like roots and give rise to the name “upside down tree”

The vastness of the salt pans enthralls the visitor and these are large and they could just swallow you in this vast land. Then there is Jack’s Camp which is a great way to meet the closeness of nature. Makgadikgadi is a place that was earlier a super lake which is around 100 feet deep and covers a massive area of around 80,000 square kilometres. But there have been lot of climatic shifts that have begun to dry up Lake Makgadikgadi. Then there was further evaporation and the lake turned into large pans.

The pans did not have any human inhabitation and there were artifacts and other peripheral villages which are found around the pans which are enough proof that the people have been living here in the Stone Age. These days the people who dare to cross the entire pan are the guests in the lodge. There is a unique safari here and this gives you the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and solitude here. The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park are in the boundaries of the park. So the Sowa Pan and the Ntwetwe Pan are important pans here in the beautiful region of Makgadikgadi. Then go to the Nata Bird Sanctuary which lies to the north of the Sowa Pan.

Then the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park have lovely grasslands and also the riverine woodlands which have lovely perennial pools which have the hippo living here. There are palm trees which grow in clusters and have the Baobab trees which are dotted around.

There is the Prickly Salt Grass which is yellow and resistant to saline and the interior portions are made of grassland and scrub bushes with small Camel thorn acacia and tall Real Fan Palms.

The flora of the Makgadikgadi region differs during the various seasons. The arid conditions here and the extreme temperature are in tangent with presence of the mineral deposits. They do not create ideal conditions for the living conditions of the plant. When there are rains in the summer season, the entire landscape is totally changed and thus there are many annual plants that help to maintain the greenery in the area. So get to see the wildflowers, Tsama melon, camel thorn, Umbrella thorn which are all majorly found here. Their roots help to tap the excess rainwater and strengthens the ground.

The most fascinating trees in this area have stood the strength of so many areas and their ability to retain the water is something that makes it more special. There are corpulent trees here which are very oddly shaped and they are scattered in various parts of the pans and come on outcrops like the Kubu Island.

With mammals like springbok, Gemsbok, zebra, the brown hyena and the black beaded jackal, found here, the Makgadikgadi is a lovely land filled with the best natural delights.

Wildlife has never ceased to interest the tourists and it is only a nature enthusiast who would wriggle his travels to those parts of the world which would give the most fascinating travel delights.

The latest news is that the Olive ridley turtles have arrived in the Gahirmatha Beach in the state of Orissa and they have laid eggs and this has been welcomed with a lot of enthusiasm and delight by the nature lovers. The forest officials are also equally excited about this. There is supposed to be an estimated 46,000 female turtles which were found digging pits on the nesting ground that is mainly for the laying of eggs as per the forest officials.

This year the number of visiting turtles is on the decline yet there are around 5 lakh turtles that are seen to come here to the Gahirmatha beach. This is the region that is on the coast of bay of Bengal and is supposed to be one of the worlds largest nesting ground of the turtles.

Forest officials are hoping that the turtles would visit in large numbers and they would grow in the coming few days. The climatic condition is quite good for the visiting turtles and the topography is also ideal.

There were around 500 turtles that were sighted recently. More than 24,000 turtles dug up their pits to lay their eggs . The mass nesting would continue for a week more till the end of March 2012.

Tiger News

There is lot of news on the tiger front. There were three tigers that were found amongst the 69 animals that were killed in the region of Chattisgarh and the state government has invested more than Rs. 116 crore on maintaining the tigers.

There were many cases of poaching and the state has awakened to this fact and stopped the way tigers are being killed. The forest department has made sure that there are patrols which safeguard the animals from getting poached.

The forest department has also expended a lot on the maintenance of tigers and has spent more than Rs. 3 crore since the year 2009 in the development of the region. So the existence of the first ever crocodile park in the district of Janigir Champa is a great valuable destination here. However the sad part is that around six crocodiles have died in the past few years.

Mysterious Black Cat in Sundarbans

As we go deeper into the mangroves of Sunderban you would be intrigued by the mystique that this land provides you with and the camera has captured more than 18 Bengal tigers outside the main area of the forests of mangrove trees. But the cameras have also managed to obtain the photos of a never before seen cat . This could a totally different feature for the entire wildlife enthusiast and is surely a cherishable moment for all the wildlife lovers.

This is a cat that belongs to a totally different species and is one with a long tail. The Sunderbans incidentally is the only reserve for tigers where leopards were never sighted. Now that the cat has been sighted it is making great news. The cat is bigger than a wild cat and smaller than a leopard. It is believed to be a melanistic leopard cat and is a rare specimen surely in the animal world. Normally in leopards there are two kinds of genes that determine whether the colour of th animal is yellow with black spots or whether it would completely black. The black cat comes from the totally black gene.

This jungle cat was found during the time the tigers were being photographed which was held outside the reserve area.

Sparrow News

Sparrows are viewed as a symbol for ecological conservation but the bird lovers are anxious that the environmental factors could result in the dwindling numbers of the sparrow. Ecologists have advised everyone that these social birds nest in niches and corners and also in human settlements. If there is no awareness about the sparrows they could be hounded by the vultures.

News on animals always is good for the nature enthusiast and also for the rest of the world.

Come to Australia the continent of pleasures, and enjoy the pleasures of being in this land of exciting adventures and beautiful memories. This is one place where you get to see the most fascinating travel delights and the most cherishable tour memories. This is one major continent offering best cities and the most fascinating wildlife experiences too.

So the Adelaide Zoo is not only a feast for the eyes but also a great treat for the tourists coming to this part of the world. Come to Australia’s second oldest zoo which is incidentally the only metropolitan zoo in this part of the world to be operated without any profit in mind. This is situated in the parklands which lie just to the north of the Adelaide city Centre in the southern part of Australia. This is a completely institutional member of the Zoo and also of the Aquarium Association and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The zoo is in charge of the Monarto open plains zoos which lie near the Murray Bridge.

With more than 300 exotic species which are of the native kind there are more than 1,800 animals which are on site. This zoo has the most recent inclusion of enclosures which are on the second stage of the exhibit of the South eastern origin. This is known as the Immersion and gives the visitor the lovely experience of walking through a jungle. One can see the Orangutans and the Sumatra Tigers here and they are quite near the tourists.

There are many architectural features which are of great importance and also have a lot of heritage value. These are under the list of the national Trust of Southern Australia. This is inclusive of an entry point in the front on the Frome Road. There is also an elephant house that existed formerly that is included in this. There is a botanical garden in the zoo and the flora and fauna found here is very intriguing and significant too. There is a Moreton Fig that was planted sometime in the year 1877. There is an exhibit of a Giant Panda which was started in the year 2009 in December. This zoo has two Giant Pandas and they with their names Funi and Wang Wang are a great attraction here.

Started in the year 1883, the Adelaide Zoo opened in month of May. It was built on a land of around 6.5 hectares or 16 acres which was given by the Government. Today the area of around 8 hectares is a flourishing zoo and has all the entertaining values to the tourists around. The south Australian Acclimatization and Zoological Society founded it and the society became the Royal Zoological Society of South Australia. There was a Royal Charter that was given by King George VI in the year 1937.

The zoo had exported live birds with around major Australian export dominating the export of such birds. It had mainly parrots and finches for aviculture and the exports included birds from the Taronga and the Australian zoo. Then in 1962, the system was reconstructed and since the zoo has moved away from the original culture of having the species in groups of two. Today the species are grouped such as they normally would be in forests and the exhibits are also planned such that they would be in concordance with the regional.

In the year 1885 the flamingo exhibit was started and today it is one of the few which have retained their original structure. It had 10 flamingoes initially and they almost died when there was a drought in the year 1915. Today we find around 2 flamingos here and they are more than 70 years old.

There are species in the zoo originating from the Gondwana continent made up of South America, Africa, India and South East Asia. There are lot of similarities in plants between the regions that are shown in the exhibits and those that are found in the lands mentioned.

So you can see the Sumatran Orangutan, the Siamang, the Malayan Tapir, the dusky leaf monkey, and also the Envirodome which is an educational area in the Adelaide Zoo making it a great place to be in.

Come to the land of culture, tradition and travel adventures – Africa and enjoy the surroundings of green ambience here. Come to the Chobe National park, third largest national park of Africa, and experience being in the most pristine surroundings in this part of the world.

The park looks really beautiful and you would certainly love to enjoy this one time experience. The Chobe National park is divided into four different regions and each has a different kind of ecosystem.

The Chobe riverfront is located in the North end of the park, and has the basic geographical features that surround the region with the most lush green surroundings and also has floodplains and has the densest woodland with the best varieties of teak, mahogany and other hardwoods. These have been largely brought down due to the pressure of the elephants here. The river Chobe flows in the northeastern border of this verdant park. This is actually a very important watering region. The dry season the elephants come here and the sights of the other animals like the Cape buffalo and sable along with the giraffe are also very common. Bird watchers find this a great paradise and birding is very common here. So see the carmine bee eaters, and ibis, spoonbills and then of course stork, waterfowl, and ducks flock this region. This is a greatly visited portion of the park and it is very near the Victoria Falls. Kasane is a town that is located very near downstream and is the main principal region and is the northern of the park.

In the western end you have the Savuti Marsh area which spans an area of around 10, 878 square kilometers and this is the relic of a large and gigantic inland lake where the water supply was cut many years back by the tectonic movements that were found here. Today the Savuti channel feeds the marsh and then it dries up for a long time till the channel flows again. The Channel first reached the Marsh sometime in the year 1982. There are many trees which lie along the banks of the channel. The whole area is totally covered with many grasslands and savannahs which make it a great wildlife hub. During the dry season tourists love to go on a safari and they see lot of animals like the zebras, impalas, warthogs, wildebeests and the kudus. The variety of birdlife in the park is greatly represented. There are also sights of zebras hyenas, lions and many cheetahs. The whole region is very famous for the annual migration of these predators and zebras.

Then you have the Linyanti Marsh which is situated near the northwestern corner for the park and it is found to the north of the Savuti marsh and is situated on the banks of the River Linyanti. The Selinda Reserves lie on the western part of the area and on the bank of the River Kwando. The Mamili National Park lies on the banks of the River Kwando.

There are lovely woodlands in between these two rivers and the lagoons and the remaining region is totally made up of flood plains. There are many wild dogs, leopards and lions found here too along with the sightings of lions, wild dogs, leopards, sable antelopes, roan antelopes hippopotamuses and many elephants. Siatunga or the crocodile is also a great rare species found here. Birdlife is also very rich here in this land of pleasures, adventure and thrill.

In between the ti MarSavushes and the Linyanti is a greatly fertile hinterland and has the best variety of the Nogatsaa grass and woodland. This is a greatly verdant region and gives you a lot to take home.

Come to this land of San Bushmen and get enchanted by the beautiful surroundings that are so much a part of this region.

Come to Africa and enjoy the beautiful experiences at the Kalahari Desert, which is incidentally the largest sandy stretch in the entire world. Spanning around 1560 miles this lies in the northern portion of South Africa and passes through Angola and Namibia and ends at the DRC in Congo. There is no surface water here and this region of Kalahari is very well vegetated. There is a plethora of habitats which has the best collection of acacia trees, and has the best stretches of flat grasslands and the way these stretch seem like an eternity.

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is a lovely region of the best verdant expanse in this part of the world and was closed to public in the recent past. There is a kind of climate here which is greatly pleasant, and the terrain here is also a little harsh on the traveler. The area has been kept very virgin and pristine due to the surroundings and the natural ambience is something that is very original here. This is wild Africa at its best.

Initially created as a shelter for the Bushmen of Kalahari this has existed since 30,000 years. These Bushmen called the San Bushmen, where originally hunter gatherers and they used to live in groups of family and they took whatever they wanted to survive. This is a form of Kalahari art and it is their simple lifestyle that became a great interest to all the Europeans who have created a colony for all the inhabitants of Southern Africa and the Bushmen. The Bushmen thus not only became the hunted but also the hunter.

The survival of the Bushmen was a major issue in the year 1961 when the region of Botswana was a British Protectorate. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve was then made their homeland.
There are lodges for safari trips that are based in the various locales in Kalahari. These often have many people who are hired by these lodges, so that they can guide the visitors who come here and they also teach methods of how to survive. These people are clad in traditional attire and the animal skins and a bow and arrow give them the ancient look. These people show how to catch an ostrich and also how to find water filled tubers. This is not an easy task. The Bushmen are very good at telling tales and there is nothing better than to tell a story with beautiful representations and lovely demonstrations.

Bhutan is a lovely land of greenery and with the ideal surroundings for wildlife. The wildlife of Bhutan is very special and interesting to the tourist. Bhutan’s National Park system spans over a huge area and started sometime in the year 1999, when the ecosystems here began to protected. The national parks in the country of Bhutan not only help to preserve the culture but also enhance its traditions.

These parks are not made for tourism but as protected areas.

The Jigme Dorji National Park is one of the largest protected areas in Bhutan. It protects the Punakha, the GAsa, Thimphu and the Paro regions. This is where you can see most of the endangered species like the leopard, the tiger, the blue sheep, the takin, the red panda and the Himalayan black bear. The best bird species also are found here with more than 300 varieties. There are three kinds of trekking routes which cross this lovely zone of verdant stretches and beautiful locales.

Named after the late Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, this is the most blessed region here and is the second largest such park in B Bhutan. Occupying most of the district of Gasa, and also the areas of Thimphu and Wangdue Phodrang, this is a lovely paradise which was founded in the year 1974 and spans over 4316 square kilometers. Thus the three different climate regions of Bhutan come under this. More than 1000 households live here inside the park.

With more than 37 kinds of mammals living here, the Jigme Dorji national park is a great haven for all the wild animals. So get set to have a look at the spotted linsang, the dhole the goral, marmot, barking deer, pika, the serow and many species of birds.

This is incidentally the only ark where the takin, the national animal, the blue poppy the national flower, raven the national bird and the cypress the national tree are found in the same place

This national park also has some great areas of economic and cultural significance. There are two places of worship here which are the Mount Jitchu Drake and the Mount Jomohari where the local deity is the presiding God. Then there is the Lingshi Dzong and the Gasa Dzong which are regions of great historical importance. River Wangdi Chuhu, Mo Chuu and Pa Chuu flow through this region. They originate from glaciers found in the park.

Glaciers in the region of Jigme Dorji are very common. These glaciers are found in the Gewogs. Having thawed in the course of history, there have been many cases of flood outbursts etc, these glaciers have caused lovely lakes here like the Teri Kang, the Luggye and the Thorthormi.

This is actually the largest protected region in Bhutan and has habitats at the height from 1400 m to 7000. The management of this park takes care of the needs of the semi nomadic yak and helps the lowland farmers too in their activities. In fact, this park has also the distinction of being the site here the best trekking routes pass through.

There are villagers living in the park. So they are allowed to harvest of our their plants and in turn they use it for traditional and medicinal purposes.

The Jigme Dorji National Park thus with a lot of intrigue and interests provides a great protection for the animals living here.
