Good Friday Service & Stations of the Cross

On Friday night, April 6, Wildwood will be holding our annual Good Friday service.  The plan for our Good Friday service this year is a bit different than in the past.

From 6-9 PM that night in the Gathering Hall, a self-guided, self-paced “Stations of the Cross” will be set up for you to walk through.  Some of you who were around Wildwood two years ago may remember our Stations of the Cross.  These stations are set up to help you reflectively consider the events of the original Good Friday from the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane through the death and burial of Christ.  The Gathering Hall will be open this entire time, feel free to come and go at your own pace.

At 7 PM in the Worship Center, we will have a traditional Good Friday worship service.  In this service, we will sing praise to our Savior, partake in communion together, and reflect on the “Scars” of Christ in a message by Executive Pastor Mark Robinson.  

No childcare will be provided for this night.  Feel free to bring your children with you to one or both components of the evening, just know that the tone of the night is more reflective and subdued as we contemplate the death of Jesus Christ and its implications on our lives today.

Sunday Morning, April 8

9:30 & 10:50 – Two identical worship services where the resurrection of Jesus Christ will be celebrated!  Full children’s ministry will be running during both services.  In our main worship services, Senior Pastor Bruce Hess will be sharing with us the “Reasonableness for the Resurrection.”  Also Jeff Harwell will be sharing a portion of his personal testimony.  We look forward to worshipping with you on Easter Sunday!!

Pine Cove Base Camp Registration Is On!

Where: Wildwood Community Church – Norman, OK

When: July 16-20 (9am-4pm)

What: A Base Camp is a day camp place where people start a journey. After five days with some of the most fun and exciting college students in the country, your child will be energized for the upcoming year and ready for their own spiritual journey. Campers will experience Jesus through Bible study, worship, and time with their counselor as well as participate in tons of great camp activities. Prepare for your journey at Pine Cove Base Camp!

Price:  $225 - This price includes all activities, snacks.  Camp store money is optional and not included in this price. Price does not include lunch each day. (Your child is required to bring lunch.)

$50 Deposit: To register, you must make a $50 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit.  Full payment is required by March 1, 2012.  Any registrations after March 1 require a full payment at time of registration.

 Registration

Register: You can register online (www.pinecove.com/reg) or by calling 1-877-4PINECOVE (1-877-474-6326). Current campers should log in using their existing accounts to register. If you cannot remember your username, call 877-4PINECOVE for assistance. New campers will create a new account. This account will allow you to complete the remaining steps.

All registrations must be completed by Wednesday at midnight the week prior to camp. No registrations will be added after this point.

Camp Store Money: At the end of the week, campers can visit the Base Camp store to get some Pine Cove gear. We have t-shirts, hats, gift items, and much more.

Forms: Beginning January 16, you should log in to your registration account and fill out all of the important forms. This includes the camper profile, covenant/release agreement, and health form. Completed camper forms are due March 1, 2012.

Cabinmate Requests: We offer the option to request that your camper be in the same cabin as a specific friend or up to three friends (for a total group of 4). Beginning March 15, you can submit cabinmate requests online in your registration account. All required forms must be completed before a cabinmate request can be made.

Cancellation Policy: Youth campers who cancel by April 30th, 2012 at 6:00 PM will be refunded all but the $50 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit. If cancellations occur after April 30th, 2012, partial refunds will not be given unless we are able to fill the space from the waiting list.

Drop Off/Pick Up: You may drop off your campers starting at 9:00am each morning. You may pick up your campers at 4:00pm each afternoon. We ask that you come in to drop off your child on Monday. We will have you fill out a pick-up authorization form. After that, you may drop your camper off curbside each morning. For pick up, we ask that you come in each afternoon. To ensure each camper’s safety we will be checking photo IDs to make sure it matches one of the names on the pick-up authorization form.

Closing Day

Closing Ceremonies: Base Camp closing celebration will be at 3:00pm, on July 20th. The celebration involves singing, camper awards, and a brief message from the Camp Director. Parents are encouraged to attend this special event. If you are unable to attend the closing ceremony on Friday, you will be able to pick up your camper at 4:00pm..

Camp Store: At the end of the week, campers can visit the Base Camp store to get some Pine Cove gear. We have t-shirts, hats, gift items, and much more. Cash, check and credit card are accepted.

Parental Pickup: To ensure your child’s safety, only the camper’s parent/guardian may pick him/her up at the end of camp or for an early departure. If you desire a friend or relative to give your child a ride, Pine Cove must receive (by mail or fax) a letter—signed by the camper’s parent/guardian—stating the name of the adult who is authorized to pick up the child and when the child should be released into his/her care. A photo ID is required to pick up your child or someone else’s child.

Sunday, December 25 (7:00 PM) - Worship Service.  NOTE:  Our Sunday morning services are moved to one 7:00 PM service on Christmas Day led by Pastor Bruce Hess.  Children’s ministry is available for this service only for toddler and nursery aged children.  No Adult Fellowship Groups, Topical Classes, or Youth ministry will be running on Christmas Day.

Sunday, January 1 (9:30 AM & 10:50 AM) - Worship Services.  On New Year’s Day we go back to our normal schedule with Adult Fellowship Groups, Youth WAV and Children’s Ministry up and running.  Join us on this day in one of our two morning services for a time of sharing and reflecting on what God has done this past year.

What is a community group?:  Community groups are environments of 6-16 people gathering regularly for the purpose of spiritual growth within community.  Groups fellowship together, pray together, study God’s Word together and basically, “live life” together in Christ.

When do groups meet?: The day, time, and frequency of groups varies.  We have groups that meet on many different nights during the week.  Most groups either meet twice a month or once a week at a time and location convenient to group members.  Additionally, two Community Groups meet on Sunday mornings, one for men, and one for women.  Both meet at 10:50.  The men’s group in the conference room downstairs and the women’s group in Room 227 upstairs.  Many groups break for the summer months.

Wildwood offers topical Bible Studies for adults on Sunday mornings.  Each class this session is either 8 or 4 weeks long and begins either May 6 or June 3.

Starting Point:  Meets at 9:30  in Room 1.  This month long course begins May 6 and is taught by Pastor Bruce Hess and Elder Wayne Russell.  Are you new to Wildwood and looking for a way to connect, join the church, or just find out more?  Join Pastor Bruce Hess and Chairman of the Elder Board Wayne Russell for this 4 week Wildwood “orientation” experience. 

Becoming the People of God:  Meets at 9:30 in Room 2.  Led by Kevin Bradford.  This two month long class begins May 6.  Using Exodus 1-19 as a basis, this class will study the formation of Israel as the people of God. The call of Moses, the ten plagues, the Exodus itself, and other events will provide the backdrop to understand various principles related to living the Christian life and what it means to be the people of God today. 

Prophecy – God’s plan of salvation for the world:  Meets at 10:50 in Room 2. This two month long class begins May 6 and is led by Jeff Harwell and Julius Harrell.  God’s plan of salvation isn’t just about saving individuals from Hell. It encompasses the redemption of the whole earth: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” The revelation of God’s plan for redeeming the whole earth begins to unfold in Genesis, and reaches a climax in Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, with critical details added in Daniel, the Gospels, and Revelation. We will take a “big picture” overview of where our own age fits into the redemptive plan of God for the earth, then look at what comes next and, finally, how things will look when God’s work is complete, including the assignments God has for us for the future. We will also look briefly at the principal flavors of Christian approaches to interpreting the unfulfilled prophecies of Scripture.

Biblical Sidekicks – A look at the other guys:  Meets at 10:50 in Room 3. This two month long class begins May 6 and is led by Phil Kemp.  Merriam-Webster describes a sidekick as “a person closely associated with another as a subordinate or partner”. There are many great heroes of scripture. We know something about the lives and exploits of the biblical giants like Moses, Jeremiah, David and Paul. The stories of their actions almost explode from the pages of scripture. But working beside these great biblical figures were people who are also included in scripture but their contributions to our understanding of the Lord’s work are easy to overlook. This class will explore who these people were and what these biblical sidekicks can teach us about our walk with the God.

Family Matters:  Transferring a legacy of faith to the next generation:  Meets at 9:30 in    Room 1.  This one one long class begins June 3 and is led by Children’s Pastor Brian Hayes.  Deuteronomy documents the message Moses gave to the Israelites before he died, just before they took possession of Canaan. He admonishes them to “be careful” not to forget God, because he knows how easy it will be for them to get distracted by prosperity and riches. In this 4 week study, we will examine the deliberate and strategic plan Moses gave to guard their heritage and transfer their faith to the next generation. This text provides incredible insights for all parents and their role to influence their children’s relationship with God. In tapping into some of the values Moses highlighted, we will discover practical and necessary steps that will help us focus our priorities on what matters most.

Adult Fellowship Groups meet weekly on Sunday mornings for the purpose of fellowship and Bible Study.  These medium sized groups are generally organized around various life stages.  Feel free to come to any of these groups any time!

Homebuilders:  Meets at 9:30 in Room 5.  Led by Stan and Cheryl Schuermann, Adam and Virginia Geurkink, and Tim and Ann Riley.  This group of married people (many with small children)  would love to have you join them anytime!  During the months of May/June, Homebuilders will be talking about “From Paradise Lost to Paradise Restored,” considering the grand story which God reveals to us in Scripture from creation to the new heaven and new earth.

Family Fellowship:  Meets at 10:50 in Room 5.  Led by John and Lori Abernethy and Travis and Melanie Thomas.  Please join us in May/June as we fellowship together and study God’s Word.    The goal of Family Fellowship  is to glorify God by seeking to live out His truth in authentic community…applying His Word in our everyday lives. Please bring your Bibles and a teachable heart. Join this group anytime!

Connections:  Meets at 10:50 in Room 6.  Led by Doug and Paula Williams and Kimberly Robinson.  Connections is a group of 20 and 30 somethings, married or single.  Connections is a great place to connect, have relevant discussion of God’s Word and grow spiritually.  Join the group anytime!
