This was out on Doerfler Rd Sunday the 29th of August. There were so many field fires that day, all of a sudden, that it was impossible to count them all. Amazing! It was difficult not to get caught up in the excitement and activity. I’m not a big backer of field burning but this day made it all a little more clear to me for some reason.

Thanks, Terri Jo!

Guest photographer Terri Jo Adams sent in today’s photo of some controlled farm field burning outside of town. She forgot to include a description to go with the photo, so I’m going to make one up.

If you’ll please, turn your eyes to the distance fields in the photograph situated atop this entry. Even the most casual observer will notice the billowing smoke beyond the classic red farmhouse, beyond the crest of the summer-browned hill, betwixt the tall twin cellular towers. The smoke hearkens a fire of renewal, a refreshing of the earth. From the ashes will come new soil, free from disease and the remnants of last year’s harvest. From the ashes will come a new hope for the farmer, and a new hope for all of us. That which the farmer sows, we reap. It is part of the grand circle of civilized life.

So dramatic. I could probably write about this for pages and pages and not say anything of substance.

This crow was sitting on the fence surrounding the football field at Regis High School on Regis St. yesterday.

The title of this post comes from a movie I’ve never seen. I found a list of quotes from it by accident, but it seemed appropriate. A hundred internets to anyone out there who can name the movie. Not that I expect anyone to actually comment, because y’all rarely do. I know you’re out there. I talk to you guys around Stayton and via email, but… not so much with the comments. That makes me has a sad. It also makes me use LOLspeak. That makes me has two sads.

UPDATE: a million internets to each person who commented, even if they were wrong. I’m feeling generous today. The answer was “The Crow.”

I seem to be in the mood to post random road shots lately. This one is of a hill on Fern Ridge Rd., just after it crosses Highway 22 and clears city limits. This is very exciting stuff, isn’t it? I mean… a road. With stripes and everything. Wow. In other news, is anyone going More >

In other news, is anyone going to the Corn Festival in Aumsville, which is today? I would love it if you could bring back a photo or two I could post here, since I won’t be able to attend.

In related news, I just discovered Aumsville is the “town of many ears.” I did not know that. Huh.

Not much photographing with this smoke in the air, eh?

Fortunately, last night the air was still clear and the moon full enough to take this photo. I’ve been looking at this scene for some time, usually just with the yard light illuminating the greenhouse. When I saw that the moon was adding its two cents, I went out and experimented with bracketing and ISO. This one was about the best one.

The moon gives the greenhouse a space age look. Be on the lookout for little green men, Patrick. And have your camera handy.

I went out with the intent of going further down Boedigheimer Rd., which is just outside of Stayton, than I’d been previously. Instead, I made it to the top of the first hill and found it was so windy, I could hardly keep my scooter upright.
I went out with the intent of going further down Boedigheimer Rd., which is just outside of Stayton, than I’d been previously. Instead, I made it to the top of the first hill and found it was so windy, I could hardly keep my scooter upright. As you can see in the photo above, it’s a pretty hilly road, so I decided not crashing was a good idea. Instead, I took a photo from the top of the hill in the direction I had intended to go, and called it good.
