I don’t normally run three separate guest photographers’ photos on the same day, but there was a rather spectacular rainbow last night, and three guest photographers captured it beautifully. The photo above by Matt Aalto starts us off. His description is adorable:

A few minutes before sunset, I caught this double rainbow. Both rainbows covered the entire sky for several minutes. I even thought about running outside and acting like this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI, but I held back…maybe.

An absolutely vivid rainbow looking east over Stayton from 3/4 of the way down Ida St – about 8:45pm Monday 6/17/2003. Shot from my back porch – I first saw it through the screen door and it seemed to take up the entire width of the door.

We have a pretty bee in a pretty flower for today from guest photographer Denny Barnes. His description:

On my walk today I noticed with the foxglove in bloom the bumblebees are out in full force. I really like my little pocket camera for times like this. I can almost stick in the flower with the bee and it does a pretty good job on close-ups. Anyway, this is what I got….

We have a new guest photographer today! Ron Etzel sent along this lovely image of a plant he spotted while hiking at nearby Silver Falls State Park. His description:

This photo was taken Sunday, June 09, on the trail of the North Falls/Winter Falls loop at Silver Falls State Park. I am not really sure what this plant is called, but it was so wonderful to look at. The picture was taken with an older point and shoot Sony Cyber-shot.

Guest photographer Denny Barnes caught this beautiful little hummingbird in the rain. His description:

Raining this morning but this little male rufous didn’t seen to mind too much. I have lots of these little rufous hummers. I’m refilling two one quart feeders almost every day. Sometimes it’s like a swarm of bees out there.

This rather nifty photo of a rather nifty old truck comes to us from guest photographer Tom Miller. He also chose the title, which I confess has me curious. I could have asked him, but then I would have had to delay posting this, and that would have made me sad. I prefer to be curious.

This is a bit of the graffiti I found the other day underneath the bridge spanning the Santiam River along the southern border of town. I’m not trying to encourage graffiti, but this bit of it is cute.

These shoes hanging from the power and/or telephone lines in front of the Circle K convenience store on Washington St., near 3rd Ave. a few days ago. I wonder how many tries it took to get them to stay up there.

I feel obligated to include a “do not try this at home” warning for those who may be tempted. Messing with power lines is never a good thing, and can be downright dangerous.

To any parents in the Stayton area who might be wondering what happened to their child’s shoes… well, good luck getting them down.

Guest photographer Denny Barnes captured this beautiful site of the International Space Station traveling overhead. His description:

The space station made a pass over us Wednesday at 10:30pm. I shot several 20sec time exposures and this is one as it approached from the west. Even with the thin clouds it was very bright.

There’s a car in town which always makes me smile whenever I see it. It’s driven by Moe, who has been a guest photographer on here in the past.
