White House ‘Memphis Soul’ Concert to Feature Justin Timberlake, Al Green, Queen Latifah, William Bell and Others.

The program will include performances by Alabama Shakes, William Bell, Steve Cropper, Al Green, Ben Harper, Queen Latifah, Cyndi Lauper, Joshua Ledet, Sam Moore, Charlie Musselwhite, Mavis Staples and Justin Timberlake, with Booker T. Jones as music director and band leader. The President’s remarks will be pooled press and the entire event will be streamed live on www.whitehouse.gov/live starting at 6:55 PM ET. ‘In Performance at the White House: Memphis Soul’ will be broadcast Tuesday, April 16 at 8 PM ET on PBS stations nationwide (check local listings).

MEMPHIS SYMPHONY KICKS OFF POPS SERIES WITH STAX! THE MEMPHIS SOUND

Memphis, Tennessee, September 28, 2012—The Memphis Symphony Orchestra will kick off its Saturday POPS series October 13, 2012, with STAX! The Memphis Sound. This unique performance combines the classical instruments of the symphony with the famous sounds and soul of Memphis music.

Legendary STAX recording artists Booker T. Jones and William Bell, as well as the incredible Memphis vocalists Susan Marshall and Wendy Moten, will join the Memphis Symphony Orchestra for a night celebrating the city’s rich musical heritage. Also sharing the stage will be members of the STAX Music Academy and the Soulsville Symphony Orchestra, as well as special guests Kirk Whalum and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns. The event will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on October 13, 2012, at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets start at $15 for adults and $5 for students. First time subscribers to MSO will receive 50% off of the POPS series.

The history, the heritage and the location of STAX tie closely in to the Symphony Soul Project, MSO’s community revitalization initiative in the Soulsville community of Memphis. There will be an additional performance of STAX! The Memphis Sound in Soulsville on Sunday, October 14, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Memphis Magnet at 915 E. McLemore. This concert is free to the public.

Patrons are encouraged to experience both performances, as the difference in venues and vibes will create two very different sounds. As for having guests up to play with ABB, I like it. I don`t see it as the band slacking, but a rare opportunity for us to hear William Bell.

One day, 15 years from now, you will be riding in the car with your kids and Born Under A Bad Sign will come on the radio (XM) and your kids will ask, was that the guy we heard that night?
It`s not like he brought up this years American Idol winner!

My first Allman Brother show. Was really excited to hear Trucks and Haynes, wow those guys can play. What a treat to hear Born Under A Bad Sign and The Sky is Crying.

Solid Review Melissa. I was struck by the broad range of people in the audience as well. Certainly all walks of life in attendance.
