Blue backed in early hat colour gamble

With Royal Ascot starting on Tuesday, William Hill are betting on the colour of the Queen's Hat on Ladies' Day and have already racked up a good liability on Blue since opening the book following the Trooping of the Colour ceremony on Saturday.

Pink heads the betting as a 4-1 chance, but blue at 6-1 has been by far the most popular choice at this early stage, with whichever colours Her Majesty chooses for tomorrow and Wednesday also likely to influence the betting before the big day.

"We were thinking a pink hat would endorse the baby girl rumours around the Royal Family, but blue is definitely the punters pick so far and should it win, we will have to take our hats off to the punters who have perpetrated this gamble," said William Hill spokesman Jennie Prest.

William Hill have also seen a gamble this weekend on Charlotte to be the name of William and Kate's first baby, backed in from 20-1 to 4-1.

June Highlights: British & Irish Lions, Wimbledon, & FIFA Confederations Cup football

The excitement continues into the month of June with plenty of competitions across all sports to enjoy, including the Lions tour of Australia in Rugby Union, loads of Rugby League action, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the most anticipated event in the tennis sporting calendar - Wimbledon, and it's the HOME of betting where you'll want to be, with William Hill offering such a wide range of markets over so many different sports.

The month begins where the last one ended, with French Open tennis now in full swing at Roland Garros with the final being held on the 8^th and England's One Day Internationals with New Zealand. The Canadian Grand Prix takes place on the 9^th in Montreal.

Despite most league seasons coming to an end, there is still plenty of football to bet on throughout June, with the start of the European U-21 Championships in Israel where Europe's finest youngsters will be on show. England have been favourably drawn in a beatable group against Norway, Italy and hosts Israel and you can back the home nation at 11/2 to win the tournament outright. There is also the FIFA U-20 world Cup taking place in Turkey or if the more experienced football is preferred we've got Roy Hodgson takes team to Rio de Janeiro for an exotic international friendly against Brazil, along with plenty of World Cup Qualifiers and the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup beginning on 15^th being held in Brazil as a prelude to next year's World Cup.

In golf, the Merion Golf Club hosts the annual US Open with the latest odds putting Tiger Woods as early favourite at 7/2 to win the tournament on home soil and the cricket season well under-way including ICC Champions Trophy.

Also across the pond, in basketball we've got the 2013 NBA Playoff Final once the conference playoffs have been finalised starting on 6^th and possibly running through til the 20th in a best of seven series. With the San Antonio Spurs already through after a comfortable 4-0 win against Memphis, can the Miami Heat make it through against a closely contested Eastern Conference against a stubborn Indiana and win back-to-back NBA Championships in this period of dominance?

The end of the month sees plenty of British action as the British and Irish Lions start their first test against Australia after some pre-test warm up games; and the British Grand Prix takes place at Silverstone in the Formula One. The cream of Grand Slam tennis - Wimbledon is on the 24^th, and after coming so close last year Andy Murray will be looking to shake off the injury keeping him out of the French Open and become the first Brit to win the competition since Fred Perry in 1936. However, Murray did win an Olympic gold medal on the same courts and you can back him to win this year's tournament at 5/2. This year's favourite is Novak Djokovic at 2/1 and defending Champion Roger Federer having won Wimbledon a record equalling seven times is at 9/2.

If that's not enough, hold onto your hats and horses as one of Europe's most famous race meetings returns for Royal Ascot 2013. Over a five-day period from the 18^th June the Nation's greatest descend upon the famous royal racetrack, witnessed by crowds of the rich and famous.

Finally, the Tour de France begins on the final day of the month where yet another Brit Sir Bradley Wiggins will be looking to retain his title at 8/1, and for all of this, there's no place better to be than William Hill, the HOME of betting!

Reveley’s Cross Border Raid At Kelso?

KEITH REVELEY has his eye on some prize money at Kelso's penultimate card of the spring with Night In Milan spear-heading his trio of Saltburn raiders at the borders venue.

The recent all-the-way course and distance winner is among the eleven runners for the Bedmax Handicap Chase (for the Haddington Jubilee Cup).

Reveley, who has son James booked for his three representatives, said: "Night In Milan loves Kelso but this is a competitive race for decent money. He will like the ground and, if he's in the form same as last time, he'd have a squeak. He also won a nice chase round Kelso this time last year."

The first in action for the Cleveland trainer is three-time hurdle winner Robbie, who makes his debut over fences in the opening Aver Chartered Accountants Novices' Chase.

Reveley added: "He's a smashing horse and loves fast ground. It's his first chase but he's schooled well at home and I just hope for a safe round and that he gets a nice experience. We're up against a decent horse in Jack The Gent who has already shown he's pretty useful."

I Got Power is one of five newcomers in the bumper which is sponsored by Douglas Pryde, co-owner of Grand National hero Auroras Encore.

"I like this horse and we've had him since he was a foal," his trainer said. "He seems to go nicely but you never k now until you run them."
