Ok. So this is what I've been working on all of this time. Not much hand-drawn stuff for several months, just 3d Modeling and rendering using Maya. Trust me, this was a lot of work. There is no post-work on any of these images. The way you see it, is the way it rendered from Maya. No cheating after-the-fact. So, I think I've gotten much better at 3d stuff.
I truly hope that I can find work doing this kind of stuff. Hope everyone is good.

Look, I know I haven't posted much art here lately. I really haven't done any traditional stuff in the last few months. The reason? I am studying Maya and learning to create CGI. Very complicated, complex and extremely detailed software. So, I completely dove in and submerged myself in everything Maya. I've learned a lot and soon I will be posting some of my finished images.

I realize that I haven't posted much art on this blog lately. Yeah, it's been awhile. I have been studying Maya. Learning CG. I've done 3d stuff in the past so I'm not really learning from scratch. Just learning the specifics of this piece of software. Soon, I will post some of the images that I have been working on. Stay tuned.

Golden Age of Comics sketch cards

Here are some of the sketch cards that I've done for the trading card set called Golden Age of Comics: Heroes and Villains. Pretty interesting job actually. I got to pick from several characters and draw them as they were in the 40's and 50's or do an updated version of them. I tried to still make them recognizable but put my spin on them. I like the way they turned out. I did a total of 25 sketch cards for this set.
Every box of these cards will have an original sketch card in it by one of the artists that worked on this project.
Next, I'll be doing sketch cards for another set of cards from the same company. This time, it's the Woodstock Generation Poster series. So, I'll be doing sketches of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, etc. Should be fun.

Another Work-in-progress shot of the Ork image I am working on. This is very time-consuming, with all of the little details I'm putting in. Everything has a bump or crater in it. Lots of shadows and highlights to make things look weathered. Threw a little color in there with the Red across the chestplate. Pretty happy with how this is turning out.

Hey, everyone. Currently working on a digital painting in Painter IX. I've always wanted to work for Wizards of the Coast or some of the other Role Playing companies. I've decided to put together some kick-ass fantasy pieces to add to my portfolio. I really don't know much about Warhammer 40k, but after doing a little online research, I decided my first piece would be of an Ork. It kinda fits my style, don't you think?
I started this image by drawing my sketch in a dark brown color, then added color on top with a new layer set to "multiply". Then, for the brighter highlights, I opened a new normal layer.
So, in the first image up there you can see some of the detail work that I started with on the face. I usually throw in the darks first, then pop in the highlights. The lower image, shows my progress as I finished up the helmet and moved down to the spiky shoulder armour.
So, hopefully this piece turns out nice. I will keep adding Work-in-progress shots as I go along. Any questions, just leave a comment or shoot me an email.

Lately, I've just been painting and drawing whatever I want. No pressure on myself. Trying to keep a loose style and not worry too much about how perfect it is.

I plan to do many more loosely painted nudes like this. Maybe one day, I'll make some prints based on this type of art.

On a side note...

I hate winter.

Another piece added to my portfolio. Created using Painter IX and a touch of Photoshop at the end (for a little color correction). Doing these images, gets me warmed up for the next Demonwolf issue. Right now, working on the pencils for issue 2 of 6. Stay tuned.
I am in the process of submitting the series to existing publishers. I need a company that has a good market presence and international distribution. Wish me luck.

I painted this one in Painter IX. Just a dark and screaming Dragon-type creature. Always fascinated by the different Dragon designs that artists come up with.

Saw Avatar yesterday and was completely blown away. What a beautifully designed film. I want to live on Pandora. I hear that James Cameron is going to do 2 sequels. Cool. If you haven't seen it yet, you've got to see it in 3D. Amazing. You know a movie is good, if you are sad that it's over. I'd like to pick up the Art of Avatar book to see the concept art.

Hey,
Just doing some digital sketching with Painter the last few days. One of the coolest pieces is a dragon with tattered wings. Hope to post it here soon. Also, working on the scripts for the next Demonwolf issues. Coming along nicely. It's super cold where we live, snow and ice. Not a fan. Must move away from here...a volcano sounds nice.

The 2010 clock has begun and is counting down. You've got 364 days left to make this year a great one. I am starting now. Working on art already. Working on the scripts for the next issues of Demonwolf. Also, designing new prints to offer on our website and at conventions. This year, I'm going to work like crazy to get my stuff seen by as many people as I possibly can.

Work for Charity

These were done for the Treasure Chest of Art, a charity that helps out kids with cancer. I did a total of 20 pieces of art. I hope these help the cause if even in a little way. These will be available at the Chicagoland Entertainment Collectors Expo. Check out the website for more information. I also want to thank Paul Maiellaro for asking me to contribute.
