The standings..imagine how far ahead Jimmie Johnson would be if he hadn’t cut a tire at Pocono..even at that, Carl Edwards is 31 points back, a significant deficit for now followed by Clint Bowyer without a win, Kevin Harvick with two victories & Matt Kenseth, tied with Johnson with 3 wins..the big movers last week, dale Jr., down 3 spots to 7^th & Kasey Kahne plunging 5 spots to 12^th with T-Stew up 3 spots into the top 10!

Sebastian Vettel is threatening to run away with a 4^th consecutive championship, up 36 points on Fernando Alonso in Formula 1 & Helio Castroneves has taken over sole possession of first in the IZOD Indy Car Series after his win in Milwaukee..

And regionally defending series champion Wayne Helliwell Jr is back on top in the American Canadian Tour, 11 points in front of Jimmy Hebert and Joey Doiron has a 26 point edge over defending Champion Travis Benjamin in the Pro All Star Series..

Around the track for Tuesday..how good is Jimmie Johnson..consider the fact that two weeks ago he’s black flagged when leading the race on a restart..comes back to win at Dover & then this past Sunday he’s catching Greg Biffle when a cut tire ends his day..so he’d likely have won three straight races, 5 for the season..imagine what the point lead would have been!

Scott Chubbuck..that’s a name we haven’t seen for a while in victory lane..the veteran and five time Pro Stock Champ won his first race in nearly ten years at Wiscasset Speedway Saturday..and speaking of wins how about Joey Pole’s first ACT win since 2011 at Canaan, boosting the “can’t miss kid” from Hudson back into the title picture..

And what’s up with Carl Edwards complaining that Greg Biffle didn’t back off the throttle to help him clean debris off his grill in Sunday’s race at Michigan, which potentially could have jeopardized the No. 16’s win..are you kidding Carl..these wins don’t come easy?

Greg Biffle breaks winless streak

Here are the racing headlines from the weekend..Greg Biffle broke a 27 race winless streak and Ford picked up it’s 1,000^th Nascar win in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Quicken Loans 400 from Michigan International Speedway..

Points leader Jimmie Johnson who looked as though he would catch and pass Biffle in the closing laps, cut his right front tire and finished 28^th..Kevin Harvick finished 2^nd with Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart rounding out the top five..

Defending IZOD Indy Car Champion Ryan Hunter Reay earned his second consecutive victory in the Milwaukee Indy Fest, winning by nearly 5 seconds over points leader Helio Castroneves..

And in touring news, Joey Polewarczyk Jr blew by defending American Canadian Tour Champion Wayne Helliwell Jr with 19 laps remaining and went on to win his first race since October of 2011 in Sunday’s SAct 150 from Canaan fair Speedway…

Michigan International Speedway, a 2 mile moderately banked D-shaped superspeedway will host both the Sprint Cup & Nationwide Series this weekend, one of the most popular tracks among drivers and one of the fastest with qualifying speeds approaching 200 mph..

Dale Earnhardt Jr’s last win came here a year ago and Nascar’s most popular driver hopes to repeat that success on Sunday in the Quicken Loans 400.. Saturday, the Nationwide Series takes to the track for the Alliance Truck Parts 250…

Helio Castroneves will try to keep his recent momentum in place when the Izod Indy Car Series travels to Milwaukee for the Indy Fest Saturday while defending series champion Ryan Hunter Reay will look for a repeat win that vaulted his team into contention for the 2012 title

My profiles this week were going to focus on two veteran drivers on a roll, Izod Indy Car Series star Helio Castroneves & Sprint Cup star Kevin Harvick..but the news of Jason Lefler’s death in a Sprint Car dirt track race in New Jersey Wednesday night dictated a change in plans..

Once again we are faced with the fact that this is a sport of imminent danger and our thoughts go out to the family of this talented and well liked veteran of all three of Nascar’s national series and a four time USAC National Series Champion..

Lefler, affectionately known as “Left Turn” competed in 73 career Sprint Cup Races for Chip Ganassi and Joe Gibbs, won twice at the Nationwide Series level finishing in the top 10 in points 5 times, and once in the Camping World Truck Series..Lefler also raced in the Indy 500 in 2000 and in the Brickyard 400 four times

He will be missed!

Jimmie Johnson 51 points over Carl Edwards!!

The points!..Jimmie Johnson has run off and hidden extending his Sprint Cup lead to the equivalent of more then a full race, 51 points over Carl Edwards, just 14 races into the season and with 3 wins the 5 time champ would be the No. 1 seed if the Chase started today-wow!

Clint Bowyer is third followed by the resurgent Dale Jr and Kevin Harvick and the big mover after Poccono was Greg Biffle who shot into the top 10 with T-Stew & Jeff Gordon currently in position for the two wild card berths..

Regan Smith & Matt Crafton are your leaders in the Nationwide Series & Camping World Truck Series…

And speaking of domination, 3 time defending champion Sebastion Vettel is 36 points up on Fernando Alonso in the Formula 1 series, the equivalent of having a race and a half lead & Helio Castroneves has jumped out to a 22 pint lead over Marco Andretti in the IZOD Indy Car Series after his big win in Texas..

F inally with the ACT and PASS Series idle for two weeks, Brian Hoar & Joey Doiron continue to sit atop the standings of the Northeast’s major touring series..

Around the Track..a whose who of veteran short track racers are gracing the 3^rd mile oval at Beechridge Motor Speedway in the Pro Series division this year..Dan McKeague, Mike Rowe, Kelly Moore, Bob Babb and Mike Maietta to name some of the most notable..worth the price of admission just to see these names compete at Andy Cusack’s popular Maine track…

After Pocono it sounds like Gibbs Racing has some issues with engine power or lack of it with Toyota detuning to insure reliability after several different valve train failures…

We talk a lot about Jimmie Johnson but look at this Sebastian Vettel kid..25 years old, 3 consecutive Formula 1 Championships and he’s running away from the field again in 2013 with 3 wins in the first 7 races..

And the Indy car Series has produced 7 different winners in the first 8 races from 6 different teams…talk about parity!

Don’t rile up Jimmy Johnson or you’ll pay for it..a week after a penalty for jumping the final restart likely cost him the win at Dover, the 5 time champion blitzed the field at Sunday’s Party in the Poconos 400 for his third win of the season and the 63^rd of his career while increasing his point lead over Carl Edwards to a staggering 51 points… Greg Biffle finished second followed by Dale Jr., with Stewart Haas Racing teammates Tony Stewart & Ryan Newman rounding out the top five…

Speaking of domination, in Montreal, it was all Sebastion Vettel, cruising to his third win of the season in the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix and increasing his championship lead to 36 points over runner-up Fernando Alonso..and in Texas Helio Castroneves blew away the field to win the Izod Indy car Series Firestone 550, leading the final 131 laps..

Tony Stewart “Smoke”!!!

They call him “Smoke” and Tony Stewart can start a fire about as quickly as anyone in racing and the 42 year old Indiana native is happy to have a discussion about any issue as long as you agree with him!

One thing is certain, Stewart who is the Owner and Driver for Stewart Haas Racing, is one of the most talented drivers to ever strap himself into a race car, of any kind.

During his long and successful career Stewart, who drives the No. 14 Chevrolet has accumulated 3 Sprint Cup Championships since his debut in 1999 along with 48 career Cup wins and prior to making the move to Nascar, Stewart won an Indy car Championship in 1997 and is the only driver in history to win both Indy Car & Cup Championships.

Stewart began his Cup career with Joe Gibbs racing and won two championships with Gibbs before leaving to form his own team..

His win at Dover last Sunday puts him in 16th place and in position for one of the wildcard spots in the Chase which he has made every year except 2006!

The points!..Despite being black flagged and losing a sure win at Dover, Jimmie Johnson still maintains a strong 30 point lead over Carl Edwards in the Sprint Cup Standings half way to the start of the “Chase”..the big news..Brad Keselowski’s team penalized 6 championship points for a post race infraction, dropping the winless defending champ to 10^th..

Regan Smith & Matt Crafton continue to lead the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series..

3 time defending champion Sebastian Vettel leads the Formula 1 drivers to Canada this weekend with a 21 point lead over Kimi Rakkonen..and Helio Castroneves and Marco Andretti are deadlocked atop the leaderboard in the Izod Indy Car Series..
