I am so excited to be visiting Charleston, SC for the first time this spring. My mom and I are planning a long weekend of antiquing, beach combing and sherry sipping this April and I can't wait! Part 2: Becky +Jon at Southall Eden

Continued from Part 1... The celebration began with an intimate hill-side ceremony and quickly transitioned into a good old fashion hoe down with the help of the wonderfully talented Hog Slop String band.

There were lots of personal touches that were especially meaningful to the couple. The groom’s sister designed the invitations and programs. A friend of the bride made custom burlap runners for her tabletops and we used some of Becky’s own collection of vintage containers mixed with Southall Eden’s milk glass collection for the centerpieces.

We used a more contemporary mix of flowers such as pink Protea and assorted succulents with farm wedding classics such as dahlias, thistle and butter stock to provide lots of color and texture throughout the property. One of my favorite details was the home-made relish that Becky bottled for favors. This was an old family recipe (the original copy of the recipe was on display in a frame with the favors) and it is personal touches like this that make any wedding celebration even more special.

JoEllen + Kevin | A Well-Traveled Romance at Legacy Farms | September 23

From the moment they arrived, JoEllen + Kevin knew Legacy Farms was the place for them. It is a venue you can fall in love with at a single glance. JoEllen + Kevin chose to have their wedding at the heart of the property with the reception lakeside by the pier. Their September wedding was absolutely beautiful and the pictures speak for themselves. Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Buckley! We are so happy for you and wish you the best. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day.

Photos by the talented Jenna Henderson. She did such an amazing job, expecially as she also doubled as the Matron of Honor, with assitance from her second shooters, Melissa and Alex.

The photo booth was a big hit! The photo strips made great favors.

Surrounded by vintage books from around the world, this cake coordinated well with

JoEllen + Kevin's travel theme. We just loved the globe cake topper!

The way the pier reflects on the lake is simply beautiful.

The soft glow of string lights filled the reception area.

The one big thing Kevin wanted at their reception was lots and lots of bubbles!

Meet Reggie of Nashville Wedding Cars

Today I want to introduce you to one of my favorite "friend-ors", Reggie from Nashville Wedding Cars. We have been working with him for several years and I am always happy to see him when he arrives to whisk one of our wonderful couples away.

Reggie has it all... the slick top hat, diamond accented bow tie, white gloves and sharp black suit. His smile and personality are welcoming from the moment he opens the door and you step into one of his beautiful cars.

Two of my favorites are the 1939 Packard or 1962 Rolls Royce "Silver Cloud." Just the perfect vehicle for an elegant and stylist getaway. But the 1952 Chrysler Imperial is pretty cool too.

No matter what you choose, you know you will have a one of a kind vehicle, care for and driven by a wonderful event professional who really cares about his clients. That is why we love working with Reggie and hope you do to!

Great Favor Idea: Cookie Mix

I just love edible favors. Our bride Caroline did too and created these very pretty cookie mixes for each family attending her wedding.

This is an easy and delicious DIY project you can make in advance. Customize the look for your wedding by choosing your own unique container and fabric accent. Caroline chose mason jars for her farm wedding and inexpensive quilting fabric in reds and oranges that she purchased as remnants at Joann Fabric. Tied with twine and a hand-written note to each family, these favors were appreciated at the wedding as well as in the weeks following when the cookies were baked and enjoyed at home.

Toffee Blondies in a Jar

In the jar you put:

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts

1/2 cup toffee pieces or butterscotch-flavor pieces

Make sure to include the baking instructions with each favor/gift:

To Make Blondies:

1. Preheat oven to 350-degrees. Grease an 8x8x2-inch baking pan.

2. In a bowl, combine 1/4 cup melted butter, 2 lightly beaten eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.

3. Stir in the contents of the jar. Spread batter into prepared pan.

4. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until set and golden brown and edges just begin to pull away from pan.

5. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars. Makes 16 bars.

Our Spotlight at Legacy Farms

When our dear friend Kellie of Legacy Farms asked us to showcase Williamson County Weddings & Events inside their historic home, we were delighted. Our creativity immediately got to work! A formal, banquet style traditional setting was an elegant way to spotlight not only the richness of the home but also our sophisticated, over the top capabilities.

Using creamy ivory, crisp champagne, soft peach and other neutral colors, the table was illuminated by dozens of candles and accented with a little rhinestone bling. The Enchanted Florist's stunning floral arrangements mingled among the mercury orbs and glowing pillar candles. The gorgeous gold chiavari chairs complemented the whole set up, thanks to Southern Events's generous rental contributions.

We also displayed some of our favorite invitations from our designer collections as well as an original menu and place card design as shown on the mirror-topped table. "Thank You" Tips

Even in this digital age, a hand-written thank you note is still the best way to show your appreciation. In the world of weddings, there is a lot to be thankful for! What better way to say thanks than with a personalized thank you note or stationery.

When it comes time for you to write your thank yous, here are a few tips and guidelines:

Thank You notes for gifts received at the wedding should be written no more than a couple weeks after returning from the honeymoon. Some say no more than 3 months after the wedding. Don't wait too much longer. Guests may think you forgot about them, the gift was lost or you simply didn't like it. Prior to the wedding, it is proper to write a note as you receive the gifts. Rule of thumb, the sooner the better. After all, they were generous enough to spend money on you two.
Hand write your Thank You notes. It is more personal and expresses sincerity. Never, ever send a card with a pre-printed message.
Be specific. Don't be vague. Example: "Thank you so much for the blender. John and I LOVE it and can't wait to make smoothies." VS. "Thank you for the gift. We love it!"
Be careful about "re-gifting". (Let's admit it. We've all done it before!) If you're in the same social circle as the person who gave it to you, finding out you're passing off their gift is likely to be hurtful.
Thank You notes aren't just for gifts. Show gratitude to someone who hosted a shower, came to your bachelorette party or helped you style your hair. Be sure to thank your friends who spent a lot of time and money as your attendants. However, it's okay thank them for a gift in the same note and kill two birds with one stone.
It's not just the Bride's job to do the writing. The Groom can also be involved, especially since you may not know someone as well as he does. Just make sure someone sends a card. Although one of you will be writing the card, use the word "we" instead of "I."
Thank them for also coming to the wedding, especially the out-of-towners. Example: "We're so glad you traveled all the way to celebrate with us!"
Although this may sound silly, blue or black ink should be used. Save the fun colors for your "To Do" and shopping lists, not the Thank You card.
If you receive cash as a gift, it's a great idea to say what you're going to spend it on. It's much better to say you're going to spend it on a dish set, toaster oven or date night than your cable bill.
Although you know your aunt (or fill in name) bought you the gift, still address it to your aunt AND uncle.

And importantly... AGAIN... be sure to write a Thank You note! Check out some ideas below. For more, click here.

We had sooooo much fun working with Martha and Kyle. They are such a sweet couple and you can just tell that they were meant to be together. The wedding day brought a surprise rain shower but after the clouds passed, we could not have asked for a more beautiful day to celebrate their marriage at the lovely Southall Eden. My favorite part of this wedding was being able to incorporate their favorite foods...which included a visit from the Mas Taco truck all the way from East Nashville!

PURPLE is quite popular right now and rarely goes out of style! Skim through this year’s invitations lines and you will see a trend of purple floating about. Among the top shades are raisin, plum and eggplant – kind of makes me hungry! A palette of purples can be both easy on the eyes and eye catching. The light tones of lavender and rose offer simply stylish sophistication. Pair purple with a shimmery gold or crisp black for a sure fire look your guests will love.

When my friend Kellie Bryson of A Catered Affair and The Bake Shoppe first told me she had purchased an old event center in Lebanon, TN and planned to renovate and re-open as Legacy Farms, I was thrilled! I was familiar with the old event center and had long wished that it could find a new owner who could restore the historic grandeur while also making it a functional, updated event space for a wide variety of celebrations.

To help get the re-launch under way, Kellie asked if we could do a small style shoot to get some new photographs for the marketing materials. We were happy to help! And although it was January and VERY cold outside, we still had a lot of fun. Enjoy some of the pics from the shoot provided by Kristyn Hogan.

Happy Anniversary to Brenda & IK who celebrated their wedding at CJ's Off the Square one year ago this week. It was an intimate celebration of close family and friends and this luxurious invitation was the perfect way to announce the news. The back layer of this wedding invitation was black velvet paper and the top layer was a pearlized white paper. Both layers were tied together with black satin ribbon for a simple but elegant presentation.
