Are you a shred master in your own mind but don’t even own a guitar? Do you kill the fills to Tom Sawyer on your steering wheel in traffic? Well put your money where mouth or should I say imaginary instrument is. On Saturday April 23rd we’ll be having an Air Guitar (or drums, or sax, or vocals, or whatever instrument) contest. Bring your phone or tablet with your favorite song to rock to, we’ll play it, and you give us your best. We’ll have Steve Hauer from Yamaha, and Joel and Adrienne from Adrienne Rose music as judges and the winner gets a Yamaha Guitar (model to be determined later, will announce). If you don’t win, you get a t-shirt just for the fun of it. Play something for real? Our open jam will be going on between performances so get up and do the real thing! Brain Clinic consists of Robby Wakeley (vocalist/bassist), Marty Hail (guitarist), and Jesse Maher (drummer). Brain Clinic was formed two years ago in Mason, Oh. They have played venues such as Thompson House, Mad Frog, Vertigo, Backstage Cafe, and The Underground. The band continues to play shows in the tri-state area. Fender American Elite Series Guitars

New to Willis and Moeller Music are the American Elite Series Strat and Tele. Introduced at the January Namm Show, these new beasts are now in the stores with more set to come. These guitars take the tradition of the Strat and Tele we’ve all known and loved since the 50’s and bring them into the now and to a whole new level. Built on the base of the American Deluxe series, a series of refinements and new exciting features make these some of the most playable and useful Fenders I’ve ever played.

Here is a rundown of the features:

The American Elite Strat and American Elite Shawbucker Strat

All new neck joint and compound radius neck AND fingerboard. The neck starts as a soft “C” shape and gradually flattens out to almost a “D” shape as you go up. This allows for incredible feel in the higher registers especially and makes blazing fast solos a breeze. The new shape of the neck heel allows easy upper fret access.

4th Generation Noiseless Pickups. These single coil pickups think that they are a humbucker but still sound like a single coil. The pickups have a dummy coil on the bottom that allows it to be whisper quiet like a humbucker but still have all the jangle and spank of a classic Fender single coil. Fender played with the ratio of the wire amounts between the two coils to make these even more natural sounding but still retaining their noisless properties.

S1 Switching. With the S1 switch up you get the same classic pickup configuration we’ve all grown to know and love. From bridge drive and twang, to classic out of phase Sweet Home Alabama, to Hendrix-ish neck, it’s all here. Engage the S1 and you have a whole new world. A new sonic pallet of combinations to play with. See diagrams below.

American Elite Shawbucker Strat Diagram

Passing Lane Switch (Shawbucker only). Hit the switch, bypass everything, bridge humbucker straight to the jack. You can have your pickup selector on the neck pickup for example, volume rolled halfway off playing a mostly clean Hendrix type riff, hit this Passing Lane and rip the solo. Disengage the switch and you’re right back to your clean rhythm tone. Or use it as a kill switch. Turn the volume all the way off and toggle between full wide open humbucker and silence.

True Biflex Trussrod with New Adjustment Location. Most trussrods only work in one direction, backwards. The strings try to pull the guitar and neck forward away from you making the action higher. The truss rod pulls backwards to counteract the strings. A biflex rod will let you adjust in either direction allowing you to set your neck relief just how you want it. The new adjustment wheel and location allows for quick easy adjustment using almost any object you can get to turn it.

American Elite Tele and Tele Thinline

All of the same great features as the Strats but in a Tele or Tele Thinline.

New Suspension Bridge. Screwless mount that drives vibration directly to the top allowing for increased sustain. Classic 3 barrel design is a nod to the past but still retains full intonation adjustability.

All models come with an ABS injection molded case with TSA locks.

March Cincinnati Band of the Month

Misnomer was born in basements. Originally from the northern suburbs of Cincinnati, Misnomer is a band full of interesting individuals that set out to break down the conventional boundaries of popular music. By implementing various influences and styles, Misnomer offers a familiar sound that exists within the paradox of “contemporary” versus “classic”. They refuse to recycle, yet retain a sense of familiarity and freshness. The music that is produced by their individualistic, non-generic format has the effect of making an audience want to shake their booties, bang their heads, and groove with euphoric melancholy, through a sound that has never reached ears before.

In the early years of the band, Randy Clark (drummer) and Kyler Davis (guitar/vocals) formed a strong relationship based solely around a mutual love for the art, craft, and expression of music. After developing their abilities further, they decided to recruit Dominic Franco (bassist) to the line-up. As a 3-piece, they established themselves and developed an identity through their interesting and unique sound and approach. Misnomer added the fourth member, Logan Brown (multi-instrumentalist), after collaborating with him to independently record and release their first full length album.

Misnomer has played in the Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Northern Kentucky circuit for roughly 4 years. After finally picking up momentum, they decided to release their first full-length album in early 2016, which will be followed by an extensive tour in the summer.

Open Jam and Trade-in Day – Westchester

Every month here at Willis at Moeller Music West Chester on the last Saturday of the month we have an open jam. If you haven’t been out to one yet please come! Last month we had a couple of former employees come join in and it was a blast! Former long time employees Darrell Sallee and Nate Philpot came out and graced us with some great tunes. Joel Butch and Adrienne Butch better known as Adrienne Rose Music host this jam each month and keep things moving between those who want to play. Please come out and join us this month, Saturday Feb. 27th, Noon to 4pm.

Last month on open jam day we also tried something new with what we felt was great success. We held our first trade-in day. We take trades any day but we just wanted to spotlight it so we designated a special day. We are going to repeat that this month and every month on open jam day going forward. Bring your old guitar, amp, or whatever instrument you want in and we’ll evaluate it and give you a value toward a new one! If we can’t agree on a value, then we’ll give you 10% off your purchase.

New Fender Bassbreaker Amps!

So back in August I was grilling out with the girlfriend on a rare day off in our busy time here at the Willis at Moeller Music West Chester store when I got a call from my boss and fellow buyer who had drawn the duty of going to the annual Fender Dealer meeting in Arizona, rough I know. He said that Fender was coming out with a new amp line. Neither of us were all that excited about the prospect and we quickly put our heads together and ordered a very conservative mix of them.

Fast forward a couple of months. This tiny little amp called the Bassbreaker 007 comes in. Fender says: “Explore the dark side with the new all-tube, nine piece electric guitar amplifier series. Full of endless grit, growl and Fender DNA with a twist. A new breed of sound that words can’t describe.” Didn’t look like much, but it was sitting there just like the picture below.

So I plugged the guitar sitting right next to it in, immediately had an early 80’s Def Leppard flashback, and I adjusted the amp according to the setting suggestion on the amp titled LA Strip Metal. I played the opening riff to “Too Late for Love” and I was hooked. This was the exact tone. Dirty when you dug in but not too dirty. Clean when you picked lightly, and everywhere in between. I was sold. I again plugged into it on our open jam today and played a couple of solos, this time with a hollow body. Perfection. I then went to the website to check out the features on the other models.

The Fox Collective is an alternative indie rock band from Lebanon, Ohio. The band was formed by musicians who came from different genre bands to collectively fulfill a specific sound. Inspired by bands and things such as Dance Gavin Dance, Circa Survive, Misnomer, Expeditions and nature itself. Currently the band has been together for nearly a year writing, practicing and recording to release their “Naked” EP. The Naked EP will be made to move you in a subtle yet exciting rush with pretty melodies and in your face riffs.
