Hanya saja, Google Drive menyediakan program aplikasi untuk diinstall di komputer (Windows).  Dalam keadaan terhubung ke internet, kita hanya tinggal membuka folder tersebut untuk melihat isinya — mirip sekali halnya seperti folder-folder lainnya yang ada di komputer kita.  Lebih lanjut, operasi-operasi file seperti copy, move, delete file, semuanya bisa dilakukan seperti kita melakukannya seperti biasa di Windows.

Keuntungan terpenting dari fitur ini, menurut saya, adalah bahwa kita dapat mengakses file-file kita dimanapun kita berada, tentunya selama terkoneksi ke internet.  Fasilitas ini sangat memudahkan bagi kita yang sering berpergian.  Fungsi lainnya adalah sebagai media backup, dimana kita bisa menyimpan copy dari file-file penting yang kita miliki, dari hard disk atau flash drive, tanpa perlu khawatir akan kerusakan atau kehilangan media-media simpan tersebut.

Preface

This application is dedicated for everyone who wants to learn in making database application with PHP and MySQL, with case study in content management system (CMS) application. This application, WBCMS, is very basic CMS application which is only focused on providing news generated from database. This guide is included in the package to provide a small amount of information about installing and managing the application.

Inline with the “very basic” slogan of this application, I guarantee that you will not satisfy with its features. However, the thing I try to show is the “base cake” of database application in PHP, including input form, insert script, short and detailed output, edit form, update script, and delete script. Being 6 years touched with PHP, I experienced that the “base cake” knowledge is the most important things I had to learn. I think you have to change the “base cake” to the “cheese cake” or “chocolate cake”… or another cake you prefer, to broaden your experience. Good luck!

System Requirements

• A computer with Apache, PHP, and MySQL installed. For making the database maintenance easier, you also need the MySQL administration software such as phpMyAdmin. You can use the installer package containing those four softwares, such as WAMPServer (www.wampserver.com/en/download.php).
• Web browser software, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.

Preparing Database

• Open web browser, go to the MySQL management software, such as phpMyAdmin. The URL address may be http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/
• NOTE: If you don’t want to learn how to create table and fields now, import the wbcms.sql file included in the zip package. You can use “Import” feature in phpMyAdmin. If you do this, bypass all steps in this section and go on to the “Application Installation” section.
• Create new database named “wbcms”.
• Create new table “news” in database wbcms.
• Enter table properties as shown in Figure 1.

• Set “id” field as primary key (you may have done this step when defining table properties), and create unique index using “title” key. The purpose of “title” unique index is to maintain data integrity, which is preventing user to enter the same title with the one existed in the table. The phpMyAdmin view of the created index showed in Figure 2.

Application Installation

• Extract the wbcms-1.0.zip to the root directory of the web server (e.g. c:\apache\htdocs\wbcms).
• Open file setting.inc.php, edit the site_title, site_description, site_keywords, and admin_password variable.
• Open file connect.inc.php, edit the db_host, db_user, db_pass, and db_name variable so they are fit to your MySQL database environment. For example:
  • $db_host = “localhost”;
  • $db_user = “root”;
  • $db_pass = “”;
  • $db_name = “wbcms”;
• Open web browser, go to http://localhost/wbcms/. The home page of “wbcms” (Figure 3) will be appearing in the browser.

Managing News

• To manage news (i.e. input, update, delete), you must log in as the administrator. Open “http://localhost/wbcms/admin/ in your browser (Figure 4).
• Enter the default password: admin. You may change it in file setting.inc.php, refer to “Application Installation” section.
• After log in, you will see a similar page with you have seen earlier (Figure 5). The difference is, you are own the administrator privilege now, so you can manage news. Look at the “Input News” on the top of posts, “Edit” and “Delete” on the right of every post. Try out these features. If you are finish, click “Log out” at the bottom of the menu.
