In an exclusive interview with Yahoo! News and the Huffington Post, he credited his father with teaching him how to live, and explained that all parents can make a "better human being":

"The power of unconditional love. I mean, there is no power on earth like unconditional love. And I think that if you offered that to your child, I mean, you’re 90 percent of the way home. There may be days when you don’t feel like it — it’s not uncritical love; that’s a different animal — but to know you can always come back, that is huge in life. That takes you a long, long way. And I would say that every parent out there that can extend that to their child at an early age, it’s going to make for a better human being."

Buffett is in the process of donating 99 percent of his wealth to charity, and recently gave away about $2 billion. He has joined forces once again with Bill and Melinda Gates on an initiative to persuade the world’s billionaires to donate half their fortunes to charity.

June 16th, 2010 marked the date of our very first Dunk Your Broker BBQ here in Wilmington, NC.  We had a wonderful turnout of over 350 people and raised a great bit of money for Realtors Helping Realtors.  The event took place at Autumn Hall with a dunk booth of course, but also a raffle for baskets valuing anywhere from $200 to $800, a bounce house for children, some Chick-fil-A giveaways and awesome food from Sawmill Grill.  Despite the heat and humidity, everyone had a great time including our very own Tim Milam, president  and Louise Voelker, Broker in Charge of Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty who graciously accepted being dunked time after time!

Backers of amendment cite backlog of 180K homebuyers

The Senate has amended a bill to give homebuyers who were under contract on a home purchase by April 30 an additional three months to close the deal and claim the federal homebuyer tax credit.

Extending the deadline for closing from June 30 to Sept. 30 would allow lenders more time to clear a backlog of 180,000 homebuyers nationwide, said amendment sponsor Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.

The amendment to HR 4213, the “American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010″ — which primarily extends unemployment insurance benefits — was approved in a 60-37 vote Wednesday. The vote was mostly along party lines, with only four Republicans in favor and one Democrat opposed.

“While I am disappointed that more Republicans did not support this common-sense measure to strengthen the economy and reduce the deficit, I am committed to ensuring that more Nevadans and Americans can become homeowners and that this amendment becomes law,” Reid said in a statement.

The House passed an earlier version of the bill in December, and the Senate approved its own version in March. The Senate is currently working on resolving differences between the two bills.

The National Association of Realtors supports the amendment, saying Realtors have reported that as many as one-third of qualified applicants have been told by lenders that their loans will not close before June 30 because of the sheer volume of loan applications in the pipeline.

The amendment does not extend the deadline for homebuyers to qualify for the tax credit, NAR said in urging lawmakers to approve it, but simply extends the deadline for closing transactions already in contract.

“Since these applications were already in the pipeline and figured into the program’s cost, the extension of the closing deadline should not incur any further government costs,” NAR President Vicki Cox Golder said in a statement.

There has been some speculation that some homebuyers will attempt to submit fraudulent claims for the tax credit by backdating documents showing they were under contract by April 30, and that extending the deadline for closing would expose the government to more fraudulent claims.

It was a great morning. A beautiful sunrise, a swim in the channel and a run back to the car. Wrightsville Beach NC is gorgeous.

Go Mollie! We are all so proud.

Wow…What a cool place, White Lake NC. I have never been there before and was honored that my family would come with me. A 7 mile around lake, beautiful Cypress Trees, family and friends. What a great Mother’s Day. My mom and Mollie were both there. We played and swam in the lake on Saturday. On Sunday morning the family cheered me on in my 3rd triathlon. Inspired by the athletes I saw complete the half ironman the day before, I set out with big eyes and a happy heart. The first leg was a 750 meter swim. As much as you practice, when you are going full bore, your form and composure are never what you’d want. I felt strong as I exited the water and ran to transition to the 14 mile bike. This is my best event. I can’t count how many times I say “on your left”. That was a good feeling. I am not used to passing people. After 14 miles, I sped into the transition area to drop the bike. The whole last 2 miles I was saying to my self “bike, helmet, race belt, bike, helmet,  race belt. I just knew I was going to forget something, but I didn’t. I started the run with slapping hands with Joey, Xander, Mollie and my mom and hearing Joey say “you can do it Dad, you are almost done”. Sweet words, but I knew I had the run ahead. Now 3 miles is not a lot to some, but to me…it may have well been 10. This is my hardest event. Now I was getting passed by all, sweating  and tired. Thoughts of those completing the 1/2 ironman the day before crossed my mind. I have to have more strength than this. Getting to the last 1/2 mile I picked up the pace and ran the strongest I ran the whole time. I finished strong to the sounds of my family cheering me on. Great weekend.
