When the days lengthen and Sun crosses over Earth’s equator, spring arrives in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, the Equinox falls on Friday, March 20 at 10:46 am EDT and in many areas of the United States, the season is already unfolding with tender shoots emerging, warming air and life awakening from winter’s deep rest. The mythical Chinese Dragon also returns as the water bearer in spring, washing away what has passed and nourishing the growth that will sustain us in the months ahead.

Chinese Metaphysics and Feng Shui teach that spring belongs to the Wood element – the upwardly moving energy of trees reaching skyward. It is associated with the East, the early morning hours, movement, expansion and new beginnings. This is a time filled with gentle motivation and quiet optimism, inviting us to look forward with curiosity and hope. Like the natural world around us, we may feel drawn outdoors, more open to inspiration and receptive to fresh ideas in spring. But sometimes that ease of movement feels just out of reach and we must dig a little deeper to release old tethers holding us back. We can’t control world events and chaos all around us, but our personal spaces are far easier to effect change.

To invite renewal, begin simply. Open windows and doors whenever you can, allowing fresh air and light to circulate freely. Bring nature indoors with young plants placed where you will see them each day. As they quietly establish their roots and stretch toward the light, let them serve as a living reflection of your own intentions – steady, patient and growing. This is also a wonderful time to lighten your surroundings. Gently store away the heavier textures, colors and more sedentary habits of winter, creating space for energy to flow. If your environment needs refreshing, try moving things around and sorting out what no longer serves you to open space for what is to come.

Spring naturally encourages connection. Gathering with others, especially outdoors, can spark meaningful exchanges and new perspectives in spring. You may also feel called to explore a class or area of study that expands your knowledge or supports your path forward since the mind is especially open to possibility during this season. As nature reemerges, revealing both its beauty and quiet strength, take a moment to reflect on where you would like to be when winter returns. With that vision in mind, begin now planting seeds that will carry you there.

This spring, nourish your mind with new ideas, your spirit with optimism and your body with vital good health. Ground yourself deeply, extend your reach and grow steadily toward the light with the Wood energy of the season. And as always, let me know if I can help.

Wishing you peace, prosperity and good chi,

Diane Gallin

Tuesday, March 3 is the last day of the 15-day Chinese New Year celebration that began on February 17 – the start of the Spring Festival and the first lunar month of the Yang Fire Horse year. Known as the Lantern Festival or Yuen Xiao Jie, the celebration coincides this year with the full moon and the last total lunar eclipse for three years (also known as the blood moon.)

A tradition begun over 2,000 years ago in China during the Western Han Dynasty, today’s Lantern Festival is considered one of the most cheerful and uplifting events celebrated around the world by people young and old. Families, couples and young children gather together with optimism for the coming year. Candles are lit inside a colorful paper lantern, wishes are made and lanterns set afloat into the night sky carrying messages of hope, abundance and love. Symbolic of letting go, the lanterns drift away with the past carrying hopes for the future. When the lanterns have sailed away out of sight, it is time to get back to work.

In Chinese Metaphysics, lunar eclipses are believed to carry strong yin energy so you may want to check your own time zone for exact moments of the eclipse and remain indoors until it passes.

Wishing you peace and tranquility,

On February 4, we begin the year’s journey with the Yang Fire Horse – Bing Wu 丙午. Horse is the seventh sign in the Chinese twelve-year cycle and in the chart of 2026, the Yang Fire 丙 (sun) Heavenly Stem sits upon the Horse’s Earthly Branch of pure Yang Fire, effectively doubling its strength. This Fire/Fire combination is among the most intense in the Five Element (Wu Xing) system, signaling a year of amplification, acceleration, and visibility. While 2025’s Yin Wood Snake cultivated ideas and alliances, 2026 activates them at lightning speed. This will be a year defined by momentum and conviction and we’ll need to take off the blinders and move rapidly – or get out of the way. There is no rear-view mirror for this purposeful horse on a mission and looking back is not an option.

In Chinese Metaphysics, the Horse represents the peak of the summer season, the western month of June, the southern direction and the midday hours of 11am–1pm when the sun is at its zenith and heat is strongest. If you were born in this season or hour, you also resonate to Horse energy, regardless of your birth year. Fire is also the element that rules the current 20-year cycle of Period 9 (2024-2043) that governs elemental predominance in buildings and Feng Shui. To know the Fire Horse is to love him for he is associated with passion, independence, freedom, charisma, and youthful vitality. Unlike the introspective Snake who moved quietly and selectively, Horse thrives in open spaces and broad daylight. He favors speed over subtlety and is not afraid of confrontation.

Ancient Chinese astrology assigns the Horse to the Triangle of Fire along with his friends the Tiger and the Dog. They are ambitious sportspersons and hunters, concerned with competition, travel, communication, and collective momentum. While the Dragon/Snake (2024/25) cycle governed mystery and revelation, the Horse/Goat (2026/27) cycle lights the match that ignites the flame of exposure. Historically, Horse years brought public expression and rapid cultural, political, and social shifts. The formidable Horse is difficult to restrain once in motion and is often associated with rebellion, ideological certainty and the testing of authority. Act fast and think later.

There are five types of Horses (one for each of the elements) and 2026’s Fire Horse – Bing Wu 丙午 is among the most powerful combinations in the sexagenary cycle. Known for magnetism, brilliance and non-conformity, he is hot-blooded, passionate and extremely independent. Fire Horse years are remembered for their volatility and defined turning points (think 1966, 1906 and 1846, the last Fire Horse years.) Fueled by the Yin Wood of the Snake year, Yang Fire carries idealism, moral framing, and clear direction. For that reason, alliances formed quietly are now activated and ideas once debated demand swift implementation. This will be a year to speak up, take action and move quickly before opportunities pass by.

The Yin Wood element of 2025 symbolized vines, bamboo, and incremental growth, but Yang Fire is the blazing sun, volcano and fast-moving forest fire. The Fire Horse will not tolerate concealment and what was sensed intuitively in 2025 will become visible in 2026. Research, diplomacy, and intelligence-gathering give way to leadership, protest and public confrontation this year. While the chart of the year is rich with vital, creative force, the excess Fire carries risk. In Chinese Metaphysics, Fire also governs beauty, optimism, enthusiasm, spirituality, visibility and expansion. But but too much Fire can lead to burnout, impulsiveness, scorched earth and conflict escalation and we are cautioned to be aware of those tendencies this year. Fire rules the heart, eyes and intellect and moves haphazardly at time, so precautions are warranted to prevent overheating. Fire also governs literal heat, suggesting continued concern around global wildfires, extreme weather events, electrical failures, and infrastructure strain. With all that fire in circulation, is not surprising that the Yang Fire Horse in China is known as the War Horse.

At its best, the Yang Fire Horse brings courage, breakthroughs, and renewed vitality, carrying society toward bold new horizons. His fire energy blazes like a bonfire then smolders like embers but rarely extinguishes for long. Horses sleep standing up (only a few hours at a time!) and dislike the confines of the stable. So ready or not, you can look forward to a year of enterprise and meaningful change in 2026 if you’re up for the challenge. The Horse will run regardless and the outcome depends on the wisdom of what was cultivated before the flames were lit. Horse challenges us in 2026 to act with integrity, manage our speed and intensity and sustain forward motion without losing purpose. This is a year when leadership, strength and judgement matter deeply because Fire reveals everything and the path chosen will be visible to all.

As always, please let me know if I can help you navigate the coming year.

Wishing you and those you love peace, prosperity, good health and the agility of the Fire Horse this year.

Let’s go …..

Diane

2026 Yang Fire Horse – Bing Wu 丙午

In 2026, the Solar or Agricultural New Year – Li Chun (Beginning of Spring) – begins on February 4 as the Yang Fire Horse arrives in grand fashion. This year, it precedes the celebratory cultural Lunar New Year on February 17. Farmers are starting their planting season now and laying the groundwork for a bountiful year. At this time, all transitional Feng Shui and Flying Star remedies from last year should be removed and 2026 cures and enhancements should be in place. If you have not yet cleaned and cleared your home and workplace, the coming days provide a perfect opportunity to do so since unfinished business carried into the new year can hinder your progress going forward. It is customary in traditional Chinese culture to complete the following projects before the new year to help you on your way.

Before February 4, 2026:

Clean your home and business thoroughly, including basements, garages, attics, etc.

Wash windows, touch-up or paint walls, clean filters, vents and drains to avoid blockages

Open the doors and sweep your home from the front to the back door to remove last year’s energy

Clear clutter by donating, selling or disposing of items that no longer serve your needs

Organize files (including digital), closets, drawers, calendars and schedules

Clean out refrigerators and pantries and replace items with only the freshest and healthiest foods

Repair or remove anything that is broken – especially clocks, watches or aged/faulty electronic equipment that could inhibit progress and keep you stuck in the past.

Trim or remove any trees or branches that need cutting on your property and thank them for their service. If they leave a gap, plant something young and vibrant in their place

Check lighting, inside and out, to ensure fixtures and bulbs are in working order

Clean every mirror, crystal and glass fixture in your home and business for clarity of vision in 2026

Service and clean your automobile for safe passage throughout the year

Pay debts and balance bank accounts so as not to drag obligations with you into 2026

Clean and polish your front door then oil the hinges for smooth access & ample opportunities

Reconcile any disputes with friends, colleagues or family members for a fresh start to the year

Get a haircut now to prevent cutting into your good fortune in the new year

Once the building is clean, burn sage, sweetgrass or nag champa or ring bells in your home and business to clear stagnant energy before the New Year

Remove your front doormat and replace it with a brand new one on Chinese New Year’s Eve to prevent dragging 2025’s energy into your home or business on 2026’s footsteps.

Be sure to check the 2026 Flying Star Afflictions and avoid disturbing compass sectors indicated this coming year.

Happy Fire Horse Year!

2026 Feng Shui Afflictions – Yang Fire Horse Year (Bing Wu)

2026 is the Year of the Yang Fire Horse (Bing Wu) and Feng Shui elemental energy has already begun to transition from the Yin Wood 乙 of 2025 to Yang Fire 丙. While the Lunar Chinese New Year falls on February 17 this year, you can begin planning now for the shift since Solar New Year on February 4 (Li Chun, Beginning of Spring) is the deadline to adjust your Flying Star enhancements and cures for the coming year.

The following Feng Shui/Flying Star afflictions are transitional in 2026 and activities in these sectors of your building should be monitored all year in addition to implementing yearly Flying Star adjustments at the onset. All cures should be used in conjunction with the permanent (natal) Flying Star cures of your building. (Compass readings should be taken from the center of the building.) If you have plans to renovate the building or move earth on the land in any of these sectors, please do so before February 3, 2026 to prevent triggering negative energy during the year.

5 Yellow (Wu kuei) is located in the South (157.5 – 202.5 degrees)

Use Metal objects (a round metal bowl or six-tube hollow metal wind chime) in this sector to prevent obstacles, accidents, financial loss and misfortune. Additionally, place a Salt Water Cure in this sector. Keep this area of your building & property quiet. Avoid loud noise, vibration, activity, bright lights, fire features and the colors red/purple. Add good quality Metal (bronze, iron, brass, pewter, copper, etc.) to exhaust excess Earth. Do not move earth, dig, plant trees or undertake construction, renovations, nailing, demolishing in the northeast of your home, property or business in 2026.

The San Sha – Three Killings is located in the North (337.5 – 22.5 degrees)

This is an area of your building and property that should remain quiet and clutter free so as not to disturb energy related to challenges, accidents, delays, health problems and financial loss. Avoid breaking ground, construction/demolition or noisy renovations this year. You may face North but avoid sitting with your back to the North in 2026.

The Year Breaker Sui Po is located in the North 2 sector (352.5 – 7.5 degrees) Rat

Avoid triggering the wrath of Grand Duke this year by disturbing the land or building in this sector of the Rat that opposes the Horse of the year. Save building and landscape alterations for a better year. Avoid sitting with your back to this sector all year.

The Tai Sui /Grand Duke resides in the South 2 sector (172.5 – 187.5 degrees) Horse

It is best to keep this sector as peaceful as possible in 2026. Avoid renovations or breaking ground in this, the shadow of Jupiter on earth. You may find it beneficial to sit with your back to South 2 for support and authority of the Horse but avoid facing this direction while seated at your desk. Avoid sleeping with your head facing the Tai Sui (Horse direction) all year.

If you have any questions or would like more information on navigating the Year of the Fire Horse, feel free to reach out.

On February 3, the start of the Solar New Year, we begin the new year’s journey with the Yin Wood Snake – Yi Si 乙巳. Snake is the sixth astrological sign in the Chinese twelve-year cycle and in 2025, the Yin Wood 乙 (flower) Heavenly Stem sits upon the Snake’s Earthly Branch of Yin Fire 丁(candle.) This Wood/Fire combination is considered complementary in the Five Element (Wu Xing) cycle of interdependence, suggesting that 2025 will be a more harmonious year than last, but no less intriguing.

In Chinese Metaphysics, Snake represents the approach of summer season, the western month of May and morning hours of 9-11am when the day begins to warm. If you were born in this season or hour, you also resonate with Snake energy, regardless of birth year.

Considered a harbinger of good fortune and guardian of buried treasure in Chinese legend, the feminine Snake is the Yin to Dragon’s Yang. A keeper of secrets, Snakes are more elusive than other astrological signs and closely linked to all things intellectual, philosophical and spiritual. For this reason, we can expect a more measured pace than that of the Yang Wood Dragon year with a stronger focus on knowledge, inspiration, creativity and research.

Though less flamboyant than her powerful Dragon predecessor, these signs share many traits. But unlike the daring Dragon whose realm was atop the highest mountains and beneath its deepest seas, Snakes dwell close to the land and move silently and purposefully, striking only when the moment is right. Differing from the other Chinese zodiac signs, the earthly snake is reptilian, relies primarily on her sense of smell and taste for information and detects vibrational sounds rather than hears them.

Ever alert and limbless, Snake travels with an undulating crawl, moves quickly when necessary and requires the warmth of her environment to regulate internal temperature. She is introspective and calculating and her subtle approach is far less transparent than that of the Dragon. Due to her association with springtime and ability to shed old skin, Snake years have come to represent transformation, rebirth and new beginnings.

There are five types of Snakes (one for each of the elements) and 2025’s Wood Snake – Yi Si 乙巳 is poetically known as ‘Snake goes into the world – a vision of morning sunlight.’ This is an inquisitive creature open to new worlds and opportunities. The Wood element fuels Fire as they combine, lending brilliance, visibility and the promise of fulfillment. In this scenario, Snake leaves its hole for a journey of exploration that combines historical investigation with the unraveling of mysteries yet to be revealed. Her position close to the earth requires stealth on the journey but the Wood Snake is also a climber of trees where the vistas are far and wide.

Wood is the element that grows and expands in all directions and Yin Wood symbolizes ivy, flowers, branches, bamboo and creeping vines. This is flexible, opportunistic wood, growing freely toward the sun. It is reciprocal energy that expands its reach, suggesting growth and the possibility of a return to diplomacy, missing in the recent past. It relates to intuition cultivated over a long period of time through the accumulation of knowledge, experience and the courage to keep going. These gifts will come in handy as we navigate 2025 since there will be other forces at work this year.

While the chart of the year appears to be harmonious, the clash of pillars (Fire/Water and Earth/Wood) and Snake’s hidden stems of Yang Metal, Fire and Earth suggests deception, fighting and hostilities beneath the surface on the world stage, especially in months when the elements and branches clash.

The last Yin Wood Snake year was 1965, a pivotal year in American history for its high highs and low lows. Lyndon Johnson had just assumed the role of President after John Kennedy’s assassination with the mission of healing old wounds and creating a ‘Great Society.’ His was a progressive, inclusive vision, spawned by widespread civil and human rights abuses and protests regarding inequality in income, health care, immigration and education. As a result of public outcry, many new laws were passed to help stop discrimination and bridge the gap.

The so-called ‘beautification of America’ program began as we turned toward greener, more sustainable environmental policies. And advances in technology, communications and travel brought a broadened world view closer to home. But escalation of the Vietnam War and continued inequality saw a groundswell of uprisings between those who wanted change and those who preferred the status quo. Despite many of these advances being settled by law, current events suggest we will be revisiting them and many others once again this year. Like 1965, it will be a year that ends on a vastly different note than it began.

The Chinese metaphysical Snake is quite selective in her associations with others and for the most part, keeps her own counsel. She has a discerning eye for beauty and evokes grace, tact and elegance. Since the Wood element is closely linked to creativity and Fire to beauty, we are likely to hear more about culture, fashion, music, design and the fine arts moving closer to the center of things in 2025. Quietly powerful and always alert, Snakes are also precise and orderly, preferring to explore opportunities gradually, formulating ideas then revealing and sharing them at just the right moment. For this reason, 2025 is expected to be a year of discovery and evolution. Analysis will be valued over opinion through the careful gathering of information to be dispensed when the time is right.

Snakes are purposeful visionaries with uncanny abilities to see the future, so innovative ideas will continue to be rewarded. Polished and poised, they continuously adapt to their environment and renew themselves by shedding outlived skins to emerge unscathed by the former. We will be encouraged to explore what that means to us and how we might explore different methods of self-preservation and adaptation in 2025.

Chinese Metaphysics assigns the emotion of anger to the Wood element, and we’ll need to manage frustrations with self-care in 2025 to prevent internal unrest, conflict and turbulence. Fire (which represents optimism, enthusiasm, spirituality and economic expansion) has been missing from the chart of the year since 2018 and returns in 2025 to start warming things up. But Fire is also unpredictable and dangerous, and we’ll likely see more explosions, electrical problems and violent clashes related to flickering sparks of Yin Fire that start small then travel quickly. This will be a good year to back away from rapidly spreading blasts of (dis)information and situations before they are vetted. Caution is warranted especially regarding schemes that took flight with the Dragon that may have flown off course.

The I Ching trigram for Yin Wood falls in the Southeast (Snake) compass direction and is known as ‘Wind’ – Xun. It is characterized as the airy energy within Wood since no life grows without air. Used in the process of burning, it is a necessary condition of Fire and lies between them on the Feng Shui compass. Extreme weather events around the world will continue to escalate especially as they relate to fire, wood and water with particular emphasis on drought, storms, wind and burning. Renewed interest in the environment is inevitable as so many around the planet are deeply affected. Countries, industries and individuals are advised against exceeding the scope of their grasp and capacity to expand, innovate and change for the better. Artistic progress, moderation and grace will be reimagined this year under the discriminating rule of the Wood Snake. Her lesson is to practice restraint, seek the truth, trust your intuition then reach out to others.

As always, please let me know if I can help you navigate the coming year.

Wishing you and those you love peace, prosperity, health and the grace of the Wood Snake this year.

2025 Yin Wood Snake – Yi Si

In 2025, the Solar or Agricultural New Year – Li Chun (Beginning of Spring) begins on February 3 and is preceded by celebratory Lunar Year on January 29. Farmers are starting their planting season now and laying the groundwork for a bountiful year. At this time, all transitional Feng Shui and Flying Star remedies from last year should be removed and 2025 cures and enhancements should be in place. If you have not yet cleared your home and workplace, the coming days provide a perfect opportunity to do so since unfinished business carried into the new year can hinder your progress going forward. It is customary in traditional Chinese culture to complete the following projects before the new year to help you on your way.

Before January 29, 2025:

The Equinox arrives today in the Northern Hemisphere at 11:06 PM EDT as the sun sits directly above earth’s equator marking the astronomical beginning of Spring. The season is already underway in most areas of the United States while teasing winter in others. Allergies are in full bloom earlier and longer than ever on a rapidly warming planet as new growth emerges, thirsty for water. The mythical Chinese Dragon brings spring rains to wash away the old and nourish crops that will sustain us throughout the year.

In Chinese Five Element theory and Feng Shui we learn that spring is associated with the Wood (tree) element, morning, growth, expansion and new beginnings. It’s motivational energy that brings optimism for what lies ahead. Like the plant and animal kingdoms, longer days and warmer weather coax us outdoors and we’re more receptive to fresh and innovative ideas. But what to do if you feel stuck? Problems or clashes in your personal Four Pillars/BaZi chart or stagnant energy in the buildings you spend time in may be the culprit.

For inspiration, try bringing nature indoors by opening windows and doors whenever possible. Place young plants in homes and businesses where you’ll see them every day. They are working hard establishing roots and branches for support all year, so tend them carefully and set your own personal and professional goals. Simplify the décor in your surroundings and store away winter’s heavy, dark colors and textures to move freely around your space. If you haven’t cleared your space in awhile, this is a perfect time to do so.

Spring is a good time to gather with others, especially outdoors, to exchange ideas and experiences. Consider a class or training on a subject that interests or advances your expertise while your mind is open to new possibilities. As nature emerges from dormancy revealing her beauty and strength, visualize where you want to be when winter calls again then plant the seeds necessary for success.

This spring, feed your mind with new ideas, your spirit with optimism and your body with fluidity and motion. Be like a tree, stabilize your roots, reach out and grow toward the sun.

Wishing you peace, prosperity and good chi,
