ATTENTION MUSIC BLOGGERS:

Just because Animal Collective is kinda popular now does not mean they suck. They are popular now because their last album was a masterpiece. It's fine that they found a way to make their style of music accessible to a larger audience, and it's fine to be part of that audience without explaining when exactly you started listening to them. There is nothing wrong with liking music.

In conclusion, music is to be enjoyed, not stigmatized. A group's popularity does not diminish their quality. If you believe that it does, then you clearly don't care about music at all... which means you should probably stop blogging about it, you lame, pretentious fucks.

To me it seemed a little illogical that two apparently antithetical political and economic ideologies could come together so seamlessly, but I guess it's a little silly of me to expect anything political (or economic) to follow any kind of logic.

The United Nations Conspiracy

While doing some research for a hugenormous paper I have to write on the role of the United Nations in contemporary U.S. politics, I came across a gem of a book called The United Nations Conspiracy by Robert W. Lee. As someone who is very interested in conspiracy theories and the mentally sub-normal minds who concoct them, I felt that I really had to check this book out of the library.

I should note, by the way, that there are two quotes on the back of this book. The first is by the author, and the second is by the publishing company (Western Islands Publishers - the publishing wing of the John Birch Society, a conservative political advocacy group). What that says to me is that not very many people have actually read this book, and even fewer people have good things to say about it.

But that's not really the point of this post. The point of this post is that I tried to find this wonderful website I once visited that I did not, for some stupid reason, save to my favorites. On this website were reviews of various academic and non-academic writers, rating them on things such as their objectivity as sources. In trying to find this website again (for the millionth time. Do any of you know what it is???), I saw this:

Those of you who obsessively followed the Tea Parties that occurred back in April will probably remember this video of a CNN reporter getting into a verbal altercation with a Chicago teabagger:

Apparently Chicago, despite its overwhelming tendency toward liberalism (and therefore its ability to out-vote rural Illinois to make this a blue state), has just as many vocal libertarians as the rest of the country.

Knowing this, I was a little nervous the other day when wore my favorite t-shirt:

Yep. That's my favorite shirt. I happen to think it's pretty funny, but there are those on the streets of Chicago who do not share that view. When I was walking home from class (U.S. Foreign Policy. Best class everrrrrr), a creepy old white man blocked me on the sidewalk so that he could yell in my face that he wasn't sure he was going to "survive Obama." Had he not immediately run away, I probably would have asked him if he was afraid he was going to get death-paneled. Alas, I did not have that chance.

Obviously I understand that there are those who might find my shirt more incendiary than hilarious (although every other vocal reaction I got to the shirt that day was from people who found it funny), but it's a shirt. I'm not standing on a street corner bitching about Bush despite the fact that he's long gone (and good riddance). Nope, I'm just a university student wearing a shirt. Scary Old White Guy (as he will henceforth be known), however, thinks it's appropriate for grown men to yell at strange girls on the street. Thus, I think it's fair to conclude that he is a teabagger, and that I just got teabagged.

I would have liked to engage Scary Old White Guy in conversation, but as Anderson Cooper always says:

For those of you who have been following my exploits throughout the blogosphere, you've probably noticed that I've got a bit of a short attention span. I've been a music blogger, a Jesus blogger, and a blogger blogger. In doing writing these blogs, I've learned a few things. First of all, I've learned that thinking and writing about music impedes my enjoyment of it. As such, I am resolved never to review another song, album, or concert as long as I live, so as to maximize my enjoyment of songs, albums, and concerts. Secondly, I've learned that thinking and writing about religion on a regular basis not only impedes my enjoyment of humanity but also makes me think about things about which I'd much rather not think. As such, I've decided to put WTFWJD? on the shelf for an indefinite period of time. As for the third blog linked there, it's really just a place for me to collect things I've seen on the Internet so that I can easily access them. I don't think anyone reads it.

So, what does that leave me? Well, it leaves me with my first and only love (besides Animal Collective, about whom, as previously discussed, I refuse to write): politics. Windbag will not be a typical political blog. I hope to draw my posts not just from what I read in the papers and see on the news, but from the political happenings I encounter on the streets of this wonderful city. Those of you who are knowledgeable about the past and present of Chicago know that I should have no shortage of material.

So, here's to the new blog. I hope it follows the pattern I've thus-far maintained in being better than my last.
