AIt may be a far cry from Perth, where, as a window cleaner, I am used to seeing cities which are...well, less awesome. However, New York would eclips most Western Cities, for a couple of very good reasons. Firstly, the history. In Australia, aside from perhaps, Sydney and Melbourne, the major population areas are still juvenile in historical records. Secondly, New York is different in it's influence over Fashion, Banking and Commerce, and the Arts. Whilst other cities, such as London, can rival 'The Big Apple' in some of those areas, New York is arguably 'standing alone' as the complete package

To recount the whole history of this great city, with it’s intricacies of personalities, construction and social interaction would likely fill a whole library. Therefore, we aim to present here just a snapshot of New York a concise history to show that history, like a building, has it’s own supporting pillars, events that have held up the character of what it is that makes New York one of the world’s great cities. So, with that in mind, let’s consider firstly, some early history.

New York – A Concise History: Early Beginnings

The area that would eventually become New York received its first input during the Wisconsinan glaciation. It was at this point that a vast ice sheet, with a depth of around 1000 feet, removed alot of the regolith, leaving a foundation of bed rock. This bed rock would eventually form the base upon which this city would become established. The ice sheet also contributed to something that New Yorkers take for granted today, the separation of Long Island and Staten Island. Whilst residents of the Big Apple are undoubtedly glad that an ice sheet doesn’t cover the city today, the way of life and character that exists now would never have been the same without that destructive, if beautiful, event had never occurred.
If we forward wind now to the precolonial era, the Algonquian Native Americans became the inhabitants of the region, This group featured the Lenape, a people whose region was known as Lenapehoking. The Leanpehoking region encompassed Staten Island, and, the western part of Long Island which would now have included the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Lower Hudson Valley.

Mayor Mayor Bill de Blasio recently rolled out the New York Budget for 2019. With regard to planned expenditure, several keys areas of investment/expenditure strike the eye, consider some of the main contributing factors:

A planned total expenditure of $88.67 Billion.
$900 million planned savings in FY 18 and 19, according to the preliminary budget
An additional $1.3 billion is healthcare savings projected from FY18 onwards.

Who among us doesn’t like pizza(excusing the dieters!)!! It is certainly hard to think of a more complete food, fats, carbs and protein, all in a rich abundance. Which is your favorite type? There are so many to choose from, to pick one seems almost discriminatory! And, yet, despite the modern form that it takes, this food has been around a long time.
In it’s purest form, it is not so ancient, however, types similar to pizza have existed a long way into our past. The ancient Greeks, for instance, were recorded to have combined their bread with oils, herbs and cheese. And, even Persian king Darius 1st is reported to have his armies bake flatbreads with cheese and dates on top of their shields. So, if Darius was the first to come up with that concept, then pizza would have been around in the 6th century B.C.E.

Pizza A History – Modern Times

And, yet, even with those historical accounts and even records regarding the Trojans corroborating that information, in wasn’t until the 18th and 19th century in Naples that modern pizza began to assume an identity all of it’s own. Consisting of mostly flatbread dishes, they would be topped with a variety of herbs, and, maybe also tomato.
One of the more famous types is the Margherita. It is rumoured that in 1889, the Royal Palace of Capodimonte commissioned a Neapolitan pizzaiolo, Raffaele Esposito to create a pizza in honour of a visiting member of the royalty, strangely enough, called Queen Margherita! Whilst the pizza wasn’t the only one made, there were three made for the queen to choose from, it was her love of the Italian flag that led her to choose the pizza that become grandpapa to the Margherita that we know her today. The Queen’s reasoning was that this particular type of pizza contained red – tomato, green – basil and white – Mozzarella. Esposito’s shop the Pizzeria Brandi still displays an official letter of recognition from the Queen’s head of service.
So, in relatively modern times, the pizza emerged as a European delight. However, how did it become entrenched in North America?

Pizza A History – Conquering America

Lo and behold, when the Italian immigrants arrived in the U.S. in the late nineteenth century, guess what they brought with them? PIZZA! At first, this food appeared mainly in areas where these immigrants were concentrated, but that was about to change. Lombardi’s become the first pizzeria, opening in 1905. The pizza movement gained traction after World War 2 when vets returning from the Italian campaign, having been exposed to the Italian culture, had developed a love of the food and proved a captive audience for pizza. Now that it’s fan base was established, the love of pizza has literally exploded in recent times, leading to the introduction of franchises and restaurants such as Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Papa John’s.
So, there we have it! Pizza is an ancient, modern delicacy. For all those who love it, take some time to think about how each mouthful fought hard to arrive on your dinner plate. Then eat and enjoy!

Water fed pole technique is absolutely vital to ensure that a good job is done and the combination of customer satisfaction and earnings maximization are achieved. Here are a few pointers to get you on your way.

Decision
One of the first things to decide is whether to clean the frames or not? It has to be one or the other, because, if you wet the frames, it will leave water marks on the glass no matter how clean your water is. In the video on this site I avoid touching the frames, why? The reason I can do this is that two weeks earlier I had already washed down the frames and it was now only the glass that was dirty. If you do choose to wash down the frames, be aware that they will drip, so, it is probably adviseable to wash all the frames first, and then go back to clean the glass, starting with the first window where the frames were washed. This should allow sufficient time for the frames to have dried sufficiently to not run on the glass after you have cleaned it.
Technique
How do you do it? There is probably no need to use vast amounts of water output unless you have detergent or heavy dirt to wash off. Once you have set the water at a steady flow, start at the top and brush up and down in strips from top to bottom(as demonstrated in the video). You may have to do each section of the window twice, to ensure that all dirt is removed. One trick that some use is that after the window has been cleaned, lift your brush off the glass, and, starting at the top, allow the water jets to spray onto the glass. Do this sideways, starting from the top, all the way to the bottom. Why is this necessary? Sometimes dust or sand particles can still sit on the glass even after cleaning. The spray jets act as a flush and the particles will run down and off the glass with the water. This is a finishing technique and happens after the brushing of the glass.
Experience
With water fed pole work, experience is key. Practice your technique on ground floor and first floor windows before trying higher, or difficult access glass. I find that with multi storey windows, washing the frames is good insurance. Why? Since I am way below the level of the glass, I can’t see if they are any runs off the frames. So, it is better, in my case, to wash the frames anyway to ensure that the glass is left clean and spotless.
Water Purity
The water quality in Perth is quite poor 300-500 ppm salts. In some areas a simple resin tank is enough to bring the Total Dissolved Solids(TDS) below 10(optimal), however, because of the poor water quality here, a combination of Resin and Reverse Osmosis filtration is necessary. This is because, whilst resin will clean the water sufficiently, the resin will only last a short while. Using reverse osmosis prior to resin extends the life of the resin and keeps operating costs down.
Summary
Practice makes perfect and this is never more true than in the use of water fed poles. Practice your technique, use optimal equipment and you will do jobs that you didn’t think you could do, and, earn more than you would ordinarily.
