2013-03-11T11:50:00.000+01:00

Nokia App Highlights is a very valuable resource for Nokia Lumia users navigating try the Windows Phone Store. It we all are aware, this is Nokia Lumia exclusive application, which offers the possibility of consulting an interesting selection of the best applications available for Nokia Lumia devices.
App Highlights took center stage in the last few hours of an event related to a bug that revealed numerous app is in development by Nokia, both from Microsoft. Applications, some of which are explicitly labeled as "internal, Nokia Use Only" are visible without any trouble using the search tool built into the application and using the keywords "Nokia" and "Microsoft ".

The bug, in any case, seems to have been promptly corrected with the removal of the search function from the application.

Among the applications developed by Nokia, that was spotted are :Meet Nokia 2.0, Nokia Conference, Demo Approve Nokia, Nokia Locate 3D, Nokia and Nokia Beta Flights News and Views.

There were some references to internal applications such as Microsoft Life , an application that, as we learn from reading the official description, is a LOB (line of business) for internal use at Microsoft and accessible by its employees.

Of course, applications for internal use Nokia can not be installed and, as said earlier, Nokia has already put in place procedures to remedy the bug. Shortly after launching the application with our Lumia 920, in fact, the application is restarted and the next time we noticed the removal of the search function.

As pointed out by the source who reported the bug first, among the sightings Instagram wasn't spotted and we could not confim the rumors that Instragram for WP is all ready on development.

Nokia Lumia 620 is already distributed with updated firmware with new Storage management options

2013-03-11T11:08:00.002+01:00

The last few days, the reports regarding the solution to the very annoying problem of the management of the "Other" in the device Windows Phone 8 at present.

Now, WPCentral reports, that in fact the new Nokia Lumia 620, that has been on sale recently, was spotted an additional option in the settings menu.
From the pictures we can see the Storage Check option, that is allows thew users to analyze the contents of its memory (subdivision, the space occupied by each application, etc..) but also allow you to empty the temporary files folder.

It 's interesting to note that the version of the OS in these screenshots is the same as Portico, namely8.10211.204 , so this solution would not require waiting for the firmware update (codenamedGDR2 ) as previously thought.

We could probably assume that this solution has been designed and developed by Nokia , even if only as a temporary waiting for Microsoft to integrate its mobile operating system. In fact, generally all items in the settings menu next to "About" belong to the OEM that manufactured the device.

might therefore be an additional option reserved for firmware Nokia and upgradeable in the future simply by using the Store section Nokia Collection, just as with "Extra Info +", "+ Display Sensitivity", etc..

Nokia Lumia 720 has a superior camera for a mid-range device - according to Juha Alakarhu Nokia’s head of imaging technologies

2013-02-28T13:43:00.000+01:00

It seems that the Nokia Lumia 720 has a superior camera compartment, feature that is not so obvious for a mid-range device. Nokia, through its blog Nokia Conversations, presented the main strengths of the WP8 devices in terms of the imaging.

The camera of the Nokia Lumia 720 has a 6.7-megapixel sensor, a choice that is not random. A resolution too high, in fact, would condition the possibility of integrating a lens with an aperture very wide.

Juha Alakarhu Nokia’s head of imaging technologies explained:

“There are many factors that influence camera performance; it’s all about finding the right balance of these factors.” says Juha Alakarhu, Nokia’s head of imaging technologies.

“We simply wanted to create the best possible image quality with this product. Everything else was secondary. It’s what you can capture with the camera that matters rather than the technical parameters.”As a result of this steadfast approach, the Nokia Lumia 720 has an outstanding imaging experience for a midrange smartphone.

Seeing light through the dark

“So, as we had free hands to decide the technical parameters, we first created several concept designs and simulated their performance. We actually considered different sensor sizes, pixel sizes, and resolutions from 3 to 12 megapixels. Going too high resolution could lead to reduced aperture size (the hole that lets in the light). On the other hand, we didn’t want to go too low either, given the physical limitations set by Bayer sampling and Nyqvist theorem.

The optical aperture f/1.9 is one of the most important specifications of the camera. It is the first Nokia smartphone to use that technical solution that allows you to capture a large amount of light.

To further improve the performance in low light conditions and helps the sensor type backlight . Concludes the framework of the hardware features the ability to take pictures in 16:9 real format (without croping the image).

To achieve a good camera is not enough hardware well done, but you need to associate it with a superior management software. From this point of view, the Nokia Lumia 720 inherits the experience developed by Nokia in the field imaging with regard to the management algorithms of digital noise and the application of filters to improve the sharpness .

The care of the camera compartment is not limited to the main one, but also extends to the secondary camera . It is a module with a view f0rmata four lenses , a record for a front-facing camera built into a smartphone. The aim also has an opening f 2.4 which helps to improve the image quality in low-light conditions.

Nokia has shown the potential of the camera posting a few test shots on the Nokia Conversations blog.

2013-02-08T16:05:00.000+01:00

Liveside posted this picture of a new patented design for a Nokia Windows Phone smartphone. Nokia has a tendency to patent their designs mobile before they are officially revealed.Nokia has filed a request for this particular patent at the end of 2011 and following the usual lengthy legislative process, has received approval on February 5th.

Nokia has moved its focus on the Asian market with marketing of low-end Lumia devices, like the Lumia 620, which is already on sale for several weeks in various Asian markets.

Huawei 4Afrika - New Windows Phone smartphone heading to Africa

2013-02-05T12:24:00.002+01:00

Huawei launched another Windows Phone 8 device named "4Afrika", a customized version of the previous announced Ascend W1 dedicated for the African users. The devices to be on sale in several African countries such as Angola, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa.

Aesthetically, it does not seem to be any difference, even under the body nothing would be unchanged, with the same 1.2GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor, 4" WVGA Display and 4GB of internal memory. The real differences are in software , with a multitude of applications pre-installed exclusively developed by Africans for Africans, according to the different needs of these countries.

Huawei and Microsoft are trying gain share in the African continent starting from the developing countries, this is because according to the latest estimates, only 10% of the population owns a smartphone (perhaps in some of these areas is more important to get the food) and in the future the phenomenon could expand rapidly.

Huawei wants to be present very early to this territory with the release the first device from the 4Afrika series, which is perfect with its very low price, even lower than the Ascend W1 price tag in Europe.

The Guardian - 41-megapixel Pureview sensor system coming to Lumia devices

2013-02-04T18:55:00.002+01:00

The Guardian is reporting that Nokia will soon launch a new smartphone running Windows Phone 8 with PureView 41 megapixel camera, pretty much with similar of better photographic abilities as the one of the original Nokia PureView smartphone, the Nokia 808.

The British newspaper is claims that the information reported are received from sources familiar with the Nokia strategic plans, confirming that the rumors circulating over the internet pointing to a device codenamed "EOS" could be true.

This new Windows Phone 8 would be a de facto implementation of the Nokia Lumia 920, which as we know has 8 Megapixel camera with PureView technology for high-quality photos in low light conditions and the unique optical stabilization system that reduces noise during shooting video. These features, combined with a 41 megapixel sensor, allow the creation of photo and video quality even higher, in any situation.

According to The Guardian the device will be launched this summer in the U.S. market and therefore if these rumors are true it is possible that the official announcement will be given at the Mobile World Congress in late February where, last year, was presented the Nokia 808 PureView.

So far Nokia did not comment on this rumors, however the MWC is very near and we will see if these rumors will become reality.
