After creating the virtual machine that will host NetApp, its time to install and configure the based OS which is Ubuntu 9.04.

After installation of Ubuntu server 9.04, I will discuss on Part 3 for the installation and configuration of NetApp

Creating a Virtual NetApp Infrastructure – Part 1

In this post, I will demostrate on how to setup and configure virtual NetApp Infrastructure.
In this scenario, the maximum disk that can be used is only 28 with 1 Gb capacity each.

Before we start, here are the things that we need to prepare before we can install NetApp:

1. Virtual Infrastructure – I use VMware server to host the Linux/NetApp and Citrix XenServer 5.5 for the iSCSI connection testing.

2. Linux OS that will host our NetApp – In this case, I use free ubuntu 9.1 server.

Here are the detailed steps :

Installation of Ubuntu 9.10 Server

Select DataStore

Select Linux (Ubuntu 32bit) OS

Assign CPU and Memory allocation

Create New Disk

Assign Hardisk space

Add Network Interface

Select Network Connection

Select CD location – In this setup, I use ISO Image

Locate the ISO file – Make sure that the CIFS share (DataStore) is already connected in the server

Select Ubuntu 9.04 server iso file

Click Next

Click Finish

After Configuration Start the VM

Click on the screen to launch VMware Remote Console

Installation Setup for Ubuntu 9.04 will be shown on the console

In these part of my post, we finish creating the Ubuntu Virtual Machine taha will host the Virtual NetApp.
