It’s amazing how fast word travels in the Windows phone world! Over at PPCGeeks, someone posted the file for Tellme, which they grabbed off a Samsung Intrepid at a Sprint store! Of course, as soon as I read about it, I installed it! :)

If you don’t know what Tellme is, check it out here. Currently, the official version is not available for many, many devices (though oddly enough, it is available for loads of Blackberrys! Oh, the irony!). You can sign up on the Tellme site to be notified when the official version is available for your device.

In the meanwhile, if you want to try it on your device (at your own risk, of course), hop on over to this thread and check it out!

It requires .Net 3.5 framwork installed for it to work, and as you will read in the thread, it does not work well on various devices. On others, it works great. As for my Sprint Touch Pro2, the app does not respond to screen taps (has to do with resolution), but the speech-to-text feature works wonderfully! And searching for things is reminiscent of using Bing (800-BING-411), just not interactive like the phone version.

Someone stumbled upon a job ad from Microsoft that speaks of the future iterations of Windows Mobile which will come to the market in the future. The job title would be “Product Planning Manager, E&D Mobile Device Strategy & Commercialization,” and one of the things that the person that will get this job will be in charge with is planning the future of Windows Mobile.

“The product planning arm of Windows Mobile” is in search for new talents that “will be joining a very innovative product planning group in a fast moving and competitive industry. The primary responsibilities will include product planning for future versions of Windows Mobile platform. You will develop Areas of Investigation which lead to actionable roadmaps and collaborate with the product engineering teams so that these roadmaps turn into highly profitable products that delight the users. You will be a major driver and contributor to product and business strategy and become the go-to person for important customer, industry and technical insights and trends.”

It’s cool to hear that they’re driving the mobile division harder at MS, but at the same time, it’s a little concerning that they’re needing to go out and FIND someone to be the “major driver and contributor”. They don’t already have someone doing that yet?!! Hmmmm…..

T-Mobile is perpetually in fourth place among U.S. wireless carriers, but details of a plan to change this have been slipping out. Project Dark will apparently include some very aggressive moves intended to make this company much more appealing to customers.

The theme for this campaign will reportedly be “The coverage you need, price you want, and the handset you crave.”

According to unconfirmed reports, the first part of that promise will be a roll out of HSPA+ service in markets across the U.S. This will give users 21 Mbps access, considerably faster than most of its competitors’ mobile broadband. This carrier already has this service up and running Philadelphia.

The second part of the campaign — the “price you want” – will supposedly have two facets. One of these is new pricing for service plans: a $40 unlimited voice plan, a $50 unlimited voice and text plan, and a $60 voice, text, and data plan.

In addition, reports say T-Mobile is going to allow users to pay for phones in monthly installments, rather than asking for the cost of the device up front.

And the third part of Project Dark will be a collection of new smartphones, including the HTC HD2.

The combination of reasonable plans and installments for a device purchase could be huge. I know many people who have expressed a desire to have a newer device, but cost prohibits them. It’s a brilliant idea to break the cost into installments! Kudos to T-Mobile for leading the way on this!

While Windows phones already support Flash Lite (a less robust version of Adobe Flash Player for mobile devices), it looks like Adobe is pumping more power into the devices. Windows phones, along with Symbian, Android, and webOS are scheduled to receive the desktop-class version of Flash 10.1. Windows phones and webOS will get public betas sometime near the end of the year.

Flash 10.1 for smartphones will also make use of GPU acceleration for those who have a smartphone powerful enough to use Flash on their mobile device. The platform will support the Tegra chipset, Snapdragon, and ION for up to 1080p video content.
