Cloudiness in the glass. There should be an airtight seal between the two panes of glass on all of your windows. When the seal fails, moisture will build up on the inside of the outside pane of glass because that has the coldest surface. Failed seals are a sure sign that it’s time to replace your windows.

Condensation. When warm moist air meets the cold surface of the window glass, condensation forms. When this occurs, it might be time to think about replacement windows. What will happen next is that frost will start to form on the glass and the issue then becomes a true problem.

Decayed frames and signs of wear. Are your windows outdated–peeling, fading or cracking? These factors affect the aesthetics and value of your place. It may be time to consider replacing your windows.

Energy loss. Drafty windows? If you feel cold air entering in the winter, hot and humid air lingering in the summer and your utility bills are increasing, these are signs it’s time to replace your windows.

Poor window operation. When the windows are hard to open and close, get stuck in the tracks, or slam shut, these are signs that it’s time to replace your windows. Repairs may delay replacements, but parts for older windows are not usually available in today’s market.

Something else to consider:

When replacing your windows, consider laminated glass. This is a glass option that offers security, lessens outside sounds and blocks 99% of the UV rays. This glass is significant in preventing the fading of furniture, draperies, carpets and other valuables.

Siding may not be on your radar, but it’s a very important part of the health of your home. To avoid devastating damages and expensive repairs, it’s important to recognize the signs and symptoms of failing siding. Here are some questions to help you decide:

Your front door should create a beautiful lasting impression; it’s a focal point that sets the tone for your home’s look. Your front door adds character and charm and is what makes people stop and admire your home.

There is more than one reason to replace an entry door. Aside from aesthetics, a front door should be energy efficient, provide security and peace of mind, and overall be a wise home investment decision. When considering a replacement door, build your ideal door around your priorities and weigh your options.

Basic door facts

Fiberglass doors nearly mirror the look of wood doors, but are more durable, do not warp or shrink, resist dents and scratches and require little maintenance. Due to their solid construction, fiberglass doors are more insulated and secure than wood doors. Fiberglass doors can be customized with a wood grain finish or be painted.

Steel doors are the strongest and most durable doors on the market. Like fiberglass, steel doors will not crack or warp and generally, require little maintenance. Steel doors can rust if not primed or painted. Steel doors are known for their high energy efficiency. Steel doors are available in many styles, multiple finishes and stains, in smooth and wood grain textures, and choices in glass. Steel doors are particularly effective in their security features.

Wood doors are the most classic of all entry doors. Wood doors can be stained to showcase their natural beauty and customized to fit most openings. Wood doors are strong, but are not as energy efficient as fiberglass or steel doors and require more maintenance. Wood doors can fade, peel or bubble and moisture is wood’s enemy, but with proper care and attention, a wood door can last for decades.

For more information on our doors, contact us at WindowsPlus@WindowsPls.com or 703-256-0600.

The forecast for the home improvement industry is looking very positive. In October, Remodeling Futures Program, at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University released its third quarter report on the outlook of home improvements for 2018. Per Leader Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA, October 19, 2017), yearly gains in home improvement spending by October of 2018 will have increased from 6.3% to 7.7%. These statistics do not take into account the future spending for repairs and renovations due to natural disasters, but those figures will alter the market significantly.

“Recent strengthening of the U.S. economy, tight for-sale housing inventories, and healthy home equity gains are all working to boost home improvement activity, ” says Chris Herbert, managing director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies. “During 2018, owners are projected to spend in excess of $330 billion on home upgrades and replacements, as well as routine maintenance.”

Although most of these improvement dollars will be spent by older homeowners, there is an uptick of the younger generation entering the housing market. The tight market brings the concern of affordability to the forefront, but statistics show that an increased number of millennials are making choices to buy older homes and spend on renovations and repairs. Various factors support the underpinning of an increased market, but as the economy steams ahead and consumer confidence builds, the home improvement industry will continue to surge upward in 2018. Great news for our industry!

Windows Plus, LLC & Allied The Window Center, LLC, Now Located Under One Roof —An historical marker in the community

ANNANDALE, Va. – August 2017 – Reg Wayland and Tom Camarca have announced that their company, Windows Plus, LLC recently acquired Allied The Window Center, LLC and the owners have officially opened the doors in Annandale at 4321 Markham Street. With keys in hand, Reg and Tom talked about this exceptional time and what inspired them to take on another business and a new location. “When the Allied owners contacted us a few months ago to talk about the idea of purchasing their business, we were not sure what to think.

Before that phone call, Tom and I had never talked about taking on another home improvement business, but it did not take us long to see the value in joining the two forces. Allied’s approach to business is aligned with our own practices and I knew that both of our companies have had a solid reputation in the community for many years. The more we thought about it, the more it seemed like the ideal match”, remarked Reg. Shortly after buying the business, Reg and Tom decided to buy the building. “The Allied building is a cornerstone of Annandale and its company sign is a true landmark in this area. The family who established Allied began its venture in 1957 – in fact, my parents bought windows from Allied many decades ago. To me, that says a lot. Allied has had a longstanding presence in the home improvement industry and we just knew that we wanted to carry on its mission,” said Tom. A treasure, indeed.

The powerful combination of these two businesses is impressive. Allied brings a loyal fan base that extends over many years; the Windows Plus team is filled with incredible talent and history. Reg and Tom are well-skilled in the trades and their business background speaks for itself. Surrounded by technical experts, Windows Plus is highly regarded for its home improvement work in homes, townhomes, and all styles of condominiums in the Washington Metropolitan Area. What does this new venture hold for the business and for Reg and Tom personally? “We are ready to embrace what lies ahead and are energized by the many prospects that these changes will bring forth,” said Reg. “I think one of the greatest benefits of our decision to move and expand is that we get to carry on the rich traditions of both businesses in an iconic building in our community. We look forward to showcasing our products and welcoming prospective customers to our show room. We like the personalization that this new space offers us,” remarked Tom. These days mark a great deal of pride for these two owners.

From humble beginnings in the late 1980s, Reg and Tom started their business in Annandale and have nurtured it through thick and thin in their near 30 years together. Their devotion to their business has remained steadfast. Their success shows. For more information about the company’s services and products, contact Reg or Tom at 703-256- 0600. Visit our website at www.WindowsPls.com, and be on the lookout for exciting news along the way in our products and services. Thank you for being a part of our success. Thank you for your trust in our company.
