It's getting closer to tweed season, and here's a jolly good film from Kristen Andrews from last years tweed ride, which is very enjoyable with a cup of tea. Spot on!

Tally Ho! The date for 2011 has been set for Sunday September 11th, 2pm, and the Tweed Ride will now be part of Ciclovia, which is now part of www.manyfest.ca with the Winnipeg Downtown Biz. The ride will follow last years route from the Assiniboine Park Pavilion to Broadway, roughly 10km at a very leisurely pace.

Also being planned is a heritage bike block, essentially a 'show and shine' for vintage bikes, so bring yours down, or join the Tweed Ride for a smashing time.

Dalnavert is also involved in Ciclovia this year, so plan for croquet and a picnic on the Dalnavert lawn after the ride. And perhaps a musical treat with a bluegrass band on the veranda in the afternoon?

A couple of last minute items, Woodcock Cycle has graciously donated some prizes to give away at the end of the ride. Suggested categories: Best Argyle socks, Best outfit, male/female and well, I'll think of a few more by Tweed ride time! Stick around to meet at King's Head to find out the winners after 6pm..

The weather looks very Tweedy for tomorrow as well, an excellent forecast.

Ok final words: gathering starts at 1.30- ride starts at 2pm! We will have fine Banjo tunes to get us in the Tweed frame of mind before the start, courtesy of Tim Osmond. Just meet at the front of the pavilion, and when you see Tweed, you know you found the right place.

Dashing Ladies and Dapper Gents! Winnipeg's first Tweed ride is fast approaching, only 12 days away.

Are you busy thinking of fashionable clothing to wear? Visit some of the picture links on the website to get some idea of the clothing worn at other Tweed rides which have happened . It's your interpretation of the "style". Don't forget to bring your camera to record the event, I'd like to put up a picture gallery after the ride.

More details to follow, but a couple of housekeeping things:

Everyone is very welcome, please enjoy the day with your fellow tweed riders, and enjoy yourself immensely. Take the opportunity to introduce yourself to all.
All bicycle styles welcome, a vintage bike isn't necessary, although if you have one, it will get a lot of attention and pictures.
I take no responsibility for anything, such as accidents, lost bicycles etc.. Everyone is an adult, and can take care of there own requirements, and is participating of their own free will. Enough said, no lawyer speak needed I trust :).
The Tweed ride is during Cyclovia, but not part of it. I think it's going to be fun walking around Broadway in Tweed checking out the displays.
I recommend wearing a bike helmet for safety. Sure it messes up the hair and the Tweed outfit look, but it's only temporary, just plan to change your headgear accordingly.
There is a bicycle valet available at no charge at Cyclovia, cool! http://www.bicyclevaletwinnipeg.ca/ check it out.
As there will be some time downtown at Broadway and Memorial with Cyclovia, I suggest bringing some lunch items for a picnic, or perhaps stopping at the Hotel Fort Garry for some tea in the Palm Room. I hope to organize a croquet game in the afternoon, stay tuned for details.
How about everyone meets 5pm at the replica Streetcar for pictures? The replica is between Fort and Garry street, directly across from the Hotel Fort Garry.
Everyone meets up around 6pm ish at Kings Head for darts? pool? libations? There might some mystery prizes up for grabs!

Tally Ho all ladies and gents! After some searching for a date for the 1st Winnipeg Tweed Ride- I discovered Cyclovia 2010 is Sept 12, so then: We shall sally forth on the First Tweed Ride in Winnipeg, Sept 12th. Broadway will be closed, there will be lots of activity and bike/pedestrian friendly activities. Now you have all summer to get your fashionable Tweed clothing together.

I'm not too sure if there will be a test ride- the weather and summer warmth are starting to make wearing Tweed a little less comfortable :) well sweaty anyway... but stay tuned... spot of tea anyone?

Calling all Winnipeg Tweed riders, here's the Tweed ride route map, all we need is a dry weekend for all you ladies and gents ! Hoping we can do a test ride shortly, then one in September. Starting point is the Pavilion at Assiniboine Park around 1pm on a Sunday TBD, end point is Kings Head Pub sometime late that afternoon... no racing allowed, it's style and grace, not speed :)

Stop anywhere along the route, suggested picnic stop is Memorial Park, or the replica streetcar between Fort and Garry on the north side of Broadway for a photo opp. You can also visit the Palm room at the Hotel Fort Garry for some 'Tea" or the Marlborough- and final stop to gather is the Kings Head Pub.

And always remember to ride safe and bring your bike locks for your stops.

Winnipeg Tweed Ride 2010

Let's join Chicago, Washington, San Francisco, Boston,Sydney for a very stylish day of bicycling, sometime in 2010. Wear your newsboy or slouch hat, bring your parasol, knickers, pipe, vest, pantaloons and anything tweed circa early 1900's for a bike ride in Winnipeg! Perhaps we can even play crouquet at the legislative grounds or memorial park? We will stop for a visit at a few local establishments to mingle! And don't forget to ride the oldest bike that you have. Vintage bikes and taking pictures are very welcome.

Route and more details to be determined, but if this sounds like something you want to be involved in, join the group on Facebook! More than likely this will be a September/October ride. You will have lots of time to pick out your tweed outfit, but please, no spandex or lycra :)
And it is Manitoba's Homecoming in 2010, let's make it fun.
