<li>50.8% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab.</li>
<li>39.7% of pregnant women have had the flu jab.</li>

<p>There were 23 A&amp;E diverts in place during the week ending 27 January 2013.<br />
An A&amp;E divert is an agreed temporary diversion of some patients from one hospital to other A&amp;E Departments to provide temporary respite. A divert is only undertaken as part of the local health systems’ planned and managed escalation when a hospital is under pressure.</p>
<h2>A&amp;E closures</h2>
<p>There were no A&amp;E closures during the week ending 27 January 2013.</p>
<h2>A&amp;E attendances and emergency admissions</h2>
<p>In the week ending 27 January, there were 386,878 A&amp;E attendances and 99,041 emergency admissions. For A&amp;E attendances this was 7.6% higher than the previous week and for emergency admissions, this was  3.8% higer than the previous week.</p>
<h2>Beds closed due to norovirus</h2>
<p>The average number of beds in hospitals closed to admissions due to infection control procedures being triggered by patients having diarrhoea and vomiting, or norovirus-like symptoms increased from the average closures in the previous week.  <a href="http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Norovirus/Pages/Introduction.aspx" target="_blank">Advice about norovirus can be found on NHS Choices.</a></p>
<h2>Number of beds unavailable due to delayed transfers of care from hospital</h2>
<p>The number of people awaiting discharge for non-medical reasons decreased from the average closures per day in the previous week.</p>

<p>Estimates suggest that flu-like activity – that is, the number of people with flu-like symptoms seeing their GP – is currently low. For week 3 (ending 20 January, 2013), the weekly primary care consultation rate for flu-like illness in England was 13.6 per 100,000.</p>
<h2>Flu vaccinations</h2>
<p>The provisional vaccination uptake rates show the following position at week ending 20 January.</p>
<ul>
<li>72.9% of people aged 65 or over have had the flu jab.</li>
<li>50.2% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab.</li>
<li>39.9% of pregnant women have had the flu jab.</li>
</ul>
<p>The provisional vaccination uptake rate for frontline healthcare workers as at the end of December was 44.0%.</p>
<h2>Admissions to intensive care units</h2>
<p>In week 3, there were 50 new flu-related admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There were five deaths from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported in week 3.</p>
