Bipolar II

Bipolar II disorder is one of four types of bipolar disorder that affects millions of Americans. It is characterized by at at least one hypomanic episode (mania that does not fully develop into psychotic mania) and one depressive episode. While 50% of bipolar II disorder appears to have a familial link (runs in families), the other 50% of the time the cause is never established. Treatment options include medications and therapy, but it is a lifelong struggle for most.

Bipolar Disorder and Situational Depression

Both situational depression and bipolar disorder are considered types of depression. Situational depression is a type of unipolar depression, while bipolar disorder is bipolar depression. Situational depression is much easier to handle and may go away, but bipolar disorder generally requires treatment and medication.

Bilateral Cingulotomy and Bipolar Disorder

Bilateral cingulotomy is a surgical procedure in which a small area of the brain is targeted in hopes of treating conditions such as bipolar disorder. Originally intended to treat OCD, bilateral cingulotomy is sometimes used to treat bipolar and major depression. There is currently little information that meets OrganizedWisdom's quality standards regarding bilateral cingulotomy and bipolar disorder.
