Obesity is taxing on the entire body and can lead to serious health complications if weight is not brought under control. Obstructive sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, and heart attacks are a few medical conditions believed to be a direct result of obesity. Obesity has also been known to exacerbate other medical conditions, such as depression, hypertension, and deep vein thrombosis.

Osteoarthritis is possibly a result of obesity, as the extra weight places additional stress on joints.
Heart disease, hypertension, and stroke have also been linked to obesity.
Various cancers have been linked to obesity, including: colon cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, uterine cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, and gallbladder cancer.

Blood Clots and NuvaRing

NuvaRing (etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol) has a risk of blood clots that is specific to NuvaRing's class of contraceptives. NuvaRing contains the hormone etonogestrel, which is a metabolite of desogestrel. This makes the NuvaRing a third-generation contraceptive. Since NuvaRing contains desogestrel, it can increase the risk of blood clots.

Anemia Drugs Raise Blood Clot Risks

A recent study has revealed that some medications used to treat anemia, known as erythropoiesis-stimulating medications or ESAs, are associated with an increased risk of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. ESAs stimulate red blood cell production and are sometimes prescribed to patients who are undergoing chemotherapy.

As with many procedures, there are risks associated with a venogram. These risks include phlebitis, deep vein thrombosis, and tissue damage. Patients may also develop an allergic reaction to the dye used, however this has only been reported in eight percent of patients.

Plavix can interact with a number of medications, so patients are advised to consult with a physician and pharmacist regarding all medications they are currently taking before beginning Plavix therapy. Warfarin may be metabolized differently by the body if taken with Plavix. NSAID medications can increase the risk of significant bleeding if used while undergoing treatment with Plavix.

Alteplase, dipyridamole, ticlopidine, and urokinase are other blood thinning medications that can negatively interact with Plavix.
Phenytoin, tamoxifen, tolbutamide, torsemide, fluvastatin, esomeprazole, dexlansoprazole, and pantoprazole may also negatively interact with Plavix.
