Antipsychotics Cause Weight Gain in Kids

A 12-week observational study reveals dramatic and rapid weight gain in children who take atypical antipsychotics. The study looked at four of the most common antipsychotic drugs used in children: Risperdal or risperidone, Zyprexa or olanzapine, Abilify or aripiprazole, and Seroquel or quetiapine. While the drugs can be life-saving, the researchers said, the long-term consequences of weight gain and metabolic effects mean "the widespread and increasing use of atypical antipsychotic medications in children and adolescents should be reconsidered."

Francisco de Goya, a famous painter, is believed to have suffered from depression during a period of his life. There are certain paintings he did that bear inscriptions that mean "disparates." It is believed that these are there because of his depression. There is very little reliable information on Francisco de Goya and depression.
