<p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 8, 2026</b></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.</span></i> <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Thessalonians%202%3A11-12&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">1 Thessalonians 2:11-12</span></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">An affectionate father mirrors his heavenly Father&#8217;s love. Out of an overflow of being comforted and loved by Christ, fathers show affection for their children. When a man has truly received Christ&#8217;s embrace, he cannot help but pass that warmth on to his children. Eternal affection flows downward into everyday moments of touch, tenderness, and presence. The Holy Spirit&#8217;s comfort becomes the wellspring from which a father loves his family.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So, ask yourself honestly: Am I an affectionate father? Do I, like the geyser &#8220;Old Faithful,&#8221; consistently and spontaneously pour out love on my children? Or have career demands, screens, and personal stress drained my capacity to give? Affection that stays hidden in the heart never reaches the child who needs it. &#8220;Yet the LORD set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today&#8221; (</span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%2010%3A15&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Deuteronomy 10:15</span></a>)<span style="font-weight: 400;">. Here are some practical ways to become an affectionate father:</span></p>
<p><b>Build daily rituals of touch.</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Establish a non-negotiable habit of hugging and kissing your children every time you leave the house and every time you return. Don&#8217;t rush out the door until you&#8217;ve made an emotional deposit in your most valued relational account. A pat on the back at breakfast, a kiss on the head at bedtime, a hand on the shoulder during conversation. Your tender touch speaks louder than lectures. </span><b>Move toward pain, not away from it.</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> When your child&#8217;s heart hurts from fear, failure, rejection, or physical harm, draw closer rather than withdrawing. Listen with empathetic ears and outstretched arms. Distant fathers are unsympathetic and impersonal; affectionate fathers get up close. Put the phone down, kneel to their eye level, and let them know their pain matters to you. </span><b>Speak affectionately out loud.</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Tell your children directly: &#8220;I love you. I&#8217;m proud of you. I&#8217;m glad you&#8217;re mine.&#8221; Many adult children carry wounds not from what their fathers did, but from words of love their fathers never spoke. </span><b>Receive before you give.</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Begin each morning by receiving the Father&#8217;s love before pouring out love to others. Read Scripture, pray, and sit quietly in His presence. A father who is first loved by his heavenly Father has the capacity to love his children fully. Your seeds of affection today will reap a harvest of healthy adult children who want to come home. Seek affection above, then apply it below.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him&#8221; (</span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2015%3A20%20&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Luke 15:20</span></a>).<span style="font-weight: 400;"> &#8220;Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you&#8221; (</span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%20143%3A8&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Psalm 143:8</span></a>).</p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Heavenly Father, I set my affections above first to be loved and cared for by you, in Jesus&#8217; name, amen.</span></p>
<p><strong>Application</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Am I regularly receiving affection from my heavenly Father? How can I intentionally become the most affectionate person in my children&#8217;s lives this week?</span></p>

<p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 7, 2026</b></p>
<p><i>But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.</i> <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+14%3A26&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John 14:26</a></p>
<p>I love the tender heart of Jesus. I love how He loves people. I love how He loves us so much that He will never leave us alone. And, I love that before He went to the cross and ascended to heaven, He told His disciples something like this: “I’m going to give you a Helper to be with you who will never leave you, and He will guide you. He will remind you of what I’ve said, and He will be your counselor, advocate, and teacher.</p>
<p>What great compassion and what great love the Lord has that He didn’t say, “Well, that’s it. I’m going back to heaven. Now, you’re on your own.” Instead, He gave us His very presence through the Holy Spirit. And, how wonderful that we have an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-wise teacher in Him!</p>
<p>When you aren’t sure which route to take, the Spirit is there to guide you. He is the best teacher.</p>
<p>When you don’t know the words to speak, He will show you what to say. He is the best teacher.</p>
<p>When you feel discouraged, the Spirit is there to reveal truth to you and give you the help you need to go on. He is the best teacher.</p>
<p>“He will guide you into all truth” (<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+16%3A13&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John 16:13</a>).</p>
<p>How marvelous that the Spirit, full of truth, will share with you and me what He hears from Jesus. (<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+16%3A14&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John 16:14</a>)</p>
<p>But what is it that often prevents us to from receiving life-giving teaching and truth from the Spirit?</p>
<p>It can be many things such as pride, or a lack of belief in the Lord’s love. But oftentimes it’s simply because of unbelief. We simply don’t take the Lord’s words to heart, that the Spirit is there for us, so we don’t seek Him. We’re simply not listening.</p>
<p>I recently spoke with a young man who is having some challenges in his personal and professional life. I encouraged him to seek the Lord for answers and that the Holy Spirit would guide him. The Lord said He would guide us into all truth. May we seek Him for the truth He promises! If we do not, what treasures we are forfeiting! Can you imagine what He wants to reveal to you?</p>
<p>I encourage you today . . . if you believe God still speaks as He says He does in His Word; if you believe He hasn’t forgotten you, and that He is ready to hear you, won’t you seek Him for His truth today? He is listening. He is ready to teach you.</p>
<p>The Holy Spirit is the best teacher.</p>
<p>“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you” (<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+16%3A7&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John 16:7</a>).</p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p>Lord, I will take you at your Word. You have said that the Holy Spirit will teach me, guide me, and be with me forever. Help me to seek truth through the Spirit that comes from God. Thank you for always being with me through the Spirit. Amen.</p>
<p><strong>Application</strong></p><p>Take time today to ask the Lord to reveal His truth to you through the Spirit. Then, listen for Him to speak to you all throughout the day.</p>

<p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 6, 2026</b></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.</span></i><b><i> </i></b><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.</span></i><b><i> </i></b><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone?</span></i><b><i> </i></b><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. </span></i><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes%204%3A9-12%20&amp;version=NLT" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, NLT</span></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I recently listened to a wonderful </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGYYiK2cbr0&amp;t=1s" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">lecture</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> by Arthur C. Brooks, the author best known for his research into the science of happiness. Addressing a group of college students, he challenged them to an honest assessment of their desires and addictions, especially those that drive us toward isolation and loneliness. Though the entire address is worthy of a close listen, this single line stood out and has stayed close ever since: &#8220;If there’s something that gives you pleasure&#8230; if you’re using it alone, you’re using it wrong. That’s the rule.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Of course, as he notes, there are always exceptions to the rule. For example, it isn’t wrong to pray to the Lord in private. Yet even that practice is not truly in isolation, for the Lord is with us and we are communing with him!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And while this address was focused on young adults, we would be naïve to think isolated pleasures are simply a “youthful” problem. If you are reading these words on a digital device, there is a high chance, whether you are 9 or 90, that you face a daily temptation to allow that phone or tablet to isolate you from those around you, sometimes even those in the same room!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Isolation is one of the deepest ailments known to mankind, because it most severely distorts the image of God that each of us bears. God is a community of love, and we are made to reflect this in every aspect of our lives. Simply put, we need each other. We need others to lift us up when we fall down, as Ecclesiastes reminds us today, yet we need others for our joy to be full. Isolated pleasure denies others the opportunity to experience joy, and it will therefore always be incomplete.   </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Instead, whatever gives you joy today, go out of your way to make it a shared joy and communal celebration, living a truly Christian life that embodies the eternal love that is known and shared by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.</span></p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Father, help us in our fragmented and isolated age to live daily in loving community in a way that reflects the love you know and share with the Son and Spirit. Amen.</span></p>
<p><strong>Application</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Consider ways to expand the circle and invite others into the joys and sorrows of your life.</span></p>

<p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 5, 2026</b></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.</span></i> <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2015%3A3&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">John 15:3, ESV</span></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I just realized in my listening prayer exercise this morning that by receiving and obeying God’s Word and His commands, I am already cleansed, or, as Jesus illustrated, “I’m pruned” by His words. To prune is, of course, to cut back unfruitful branches to make room for the fruitful ones. Beautifully and methodically, the pruning shears of the Holy Spirit remove small twigs or suckers before they grow dominant and destructive, sucking the life out of my soul, along with the more obvious dead branches that are distracting and take up space. Pride, fear, lust, greed, and unbelief are among my sins in need of Christ’s cleansing words. Pruning is tough love. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">There is a quiet revolution in the Word of God. Not, be clean after sufficient effort. Not, might be clean if you perform well enough. Already clean, declared so by the word of Jesus himself, applied to the heart of every person who has received and obeyed what He has spoken. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Jesus used the image of pruning to describe how this cleansing works in a living, growing soul. The gardener does not wait for a branch to die completely before cutting it back. He moves through the vine with practiced, loving attention, removing small twigs before they become dominant and trimming what is unfruitful before it consumes the energy meant for what is fruitful. The pruning shears of the Spirit work the same way. He does not wait for pride to become destructive before He addresses it. He moves early, precisely, and with the vine’s long-term health always in view. This is what the Word of God does in a life genuinely open to it. Scripture is not merely information to be absorbed intellectually. </span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%204%3A12%20&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hebrews 4:12</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> describes it as living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating to the division of soul and spirit, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. When you read Scripture with an open and surrendered heart, you submit yourself to the pruning process. The Word identifies what needs to go: the pride that has been quietly growing, the fear that has been subtly shaping decisions, the unbelief dressed up as realism. The Spirit applies the cut with loving precision.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pruning is tough love. It does not feel gentle in the moment. It feels like a loss, the removal of something that was part of you, however unproductive it may have been. But the gardener&#8217;s goal is never loss. It is always greater fruitfulness. </span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2015%3A2%20&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">John 15:2</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> says, “Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” The pruning is not punishment. It is an investment in your future fruitfulness. Begin each morning with a brief, honest prayer of availability, “Lord, your Word is welcome here. Show me what needs to go.” Then read slowly, not for volume but for depth. One paragraph. One verse. Enough to let the Spirit speak specifically rather than generally. When conviction comes during your reading, do not hurry past it. Sit with it. That discomfort is the pruning shears doing their work. Name what is being identified: pride, fear, greed, unbelief. Surrender it specifically rather than generally. Keep a simple journal of what the Spirit is pruning in this season. Naming it makes it concrete. Returning to it holds you accountable. <p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 4, 2026</b></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.</span></i> <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James%201%3A17%20&amp;version=NLT" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">James 1:17, NLT</span></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I was recently reflecting with a friend on the importance of re-reading great books and devotional literature. In the conversation, a single comment stood out to me. After pondering for a moment, this person noted, “The book is exactly the same as it was years ago, but </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">I’m</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> not the same as I was years ago, so the encounter is entirely different.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">When I look back on my life, I can see seasons in which the fruit of the Spirit is on abundant display: self-sacrificing love, kindness, and humility in abundance. Yet I also see seasons of great trial and sorrow as I struggled over my own shortcomings and those of others. When we say that the Lord “never changes,” it doesn’t mean he is emotionless and unmoved, failing to enter into these seasons of joy and sorrow with us. No, it means that his nature and character are consistent even when we are inconsistent. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Lord does not love you more when you are doing well and love you less in your struggle. He never changes, and his unchanging disposition toward you is love. We encounter this truth time and time again in the Bible, serving for us as an unchanging record of our Lord’s eternal changelessness. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yet where are you, and </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">who</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> are you, today?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">How does your ever-changing life in this very moment encounter his eternal changelessness? Do you find him to be the loving and merciful Lord that he is, or is your heart wandering and unsettled? Do you battle anger towards the Lord or confusion over how he has allowed this or that to happen? It does us no good to pretend we are someone we are not! Instead, wherever you find yourself today, know that his eternal love can find you there. </span></p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Father, meet us in the ever-changing realities of our lives with your unchanging and steadfast love, we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.</span></p>
<p><strong>Application</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meditate afresh on the unchanging nature of God, and how this is very good news for you today.</span></p>

<p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 3, 2026</b></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.</span></i> <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2014%3A26&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">John 14:26</span></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Your love and obedience open the door to a beautiful, holy community of love in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This divine community is an active, living love, waiting to engage the hearts, minds, and souls of every obedient lover of Jesus. Beyond being saved, there is a “working out” of your salvation that invites you to rest in the presence of perfection. Not a working out to gain your salvation, but a working out of love and obedience to the Lord, out of gratitude for His saving you. God’s community of love strengthens your spirit, grows grace in your heart, clarifies your thinking with truth, gives peace to your soul, and rest to your body. Are you being loved?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is not a passive invitation. The Holy Spirit: the Helper, the Paraclete, the One who comes alongside, is actively present in every believer&#8217;s life, doing exactly what Jesus promised. He teaches. He reminds. He illuminates what would otherwise remain dark and clarifies what would otherwise be confusing. When you open Scripture, and something lands with unexpected weight, that is the Spirit teaching. When a truth you learned years ago suddenly rises in your memory at exactly the moment you need it, that is the Spirit bringing it to remembrance. He is not distant or occasional. He is near, attentive, and relentlessly committed to your growth in grace.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The theological term for this divine community is <em>perichoresis</em>, the mutual indwelling of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in an eternal, loving, self-giving relationship. The staggering truth of the gospel is that through Christ, you have been invited into that relationship, not as an observer but as a participant. </span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2017%3A21%20&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">John 17:21</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> records Jesus praying that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us. The community of divine love was never meant to remain closed. It was always intended to expand to include every person who receives the Son and loves and obeys the Lord’s commands. </span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%202%3A12%E2%80%9313%20&amp;version=NKJV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Philippians 2:12-13</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> beautifully captures the dynamic, “work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” Notice the partnership. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">You work out what God works in</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">. The Holy Spirit produces the desire and the capacity. You respond with obedience and love. Neither replaces the other. Both are essential. This community of love has a daily rhythm. It begins in the morning, when you bring your unfinished, unresolved, still-waking self to God before the demands of the day crowd in. It continues throughout the day as you practice what Brother Lawrence called the presence of God, a sustained awareness that you are never outside the loving attention of the Trinity. And it settles into the evening as you release what you could not control, confess what fell short, and receive the rest that only the presence of God can provide.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In practice, this means building your life around the ways the Spirit works. Scripture, prayer, community, worship, and obedience are not religious obligations. They are the pathways through which the community of divine love reaches into your daily life. A believer who neglects these pathways does not lose their salvation — but they do lose access to the daily richness of the relationship they have been given. You were not saved merely to be forgiven. You were saved to be loved, deeply, personally, and continuously, by the Father who chose you, the Son who redeemed you, and the Spirit who now makes his home in you. Are you experiencing the Father’s, Son’s, and Spirit’s beautiful and holy community of love today?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” (</span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Zephaniah%203%3A17&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zephaniah 3:17</span></a>).</p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, draw me deeper into your community of love. Teach me through your Spirit, remind me of your truth, and help me live today from the overflow of being genuinely loved by you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.</span></p>
<p><strong>Application</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Set aside ten minutes today in complete silence. No agenda, no list, no requests. Simply receive. Tell God you are present and available and ask the Holy Spirit to make the love of the Trinity real to you in this moment. Then wait. The community of love is already there. You only need to be still enough to experience it.</span></p>

<p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 2, 2026</b></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">For everyone who lives on milk is still an infant, inexperienced in the message of righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil.</span></i> <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%205%3A13-14&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hebrews 5:13-14</span></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Recently, I found myself at the pet shop purchasing a tub of flightless fruit flies. This peculiar situation resulted from a venture my son and I set out upon to raise tadpoles into frogs. For months, we cast bits of spinach leaf into our aquarium and watched the hungry little tadpoles gobble it up. And then, lo and behold, one day we had a frog! I hadn’t anticipated that this new creature would need a completely different habitat and an entirely different diet. To our fascination, the moment that little tadpole sprouted legs, absorbed its tail, and started hopping onto land, it realized it wanted meat and knew exactly how to catch it. No more wriggling about under the water or nibbling algae. It knew it was a frog and it wanted to behave like one. The old diet was no longer suitable for this transformed creature. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The writer of Hebrews describes believers very much like tadpoles and frogs. There are those infant believers who live on milk– the basic understanding of the “message of righteousness” (or the Gospel), that salvation comes through Christ. And then there are those mature believers who have developed a stomach for meat – the more profound truths of the Gospel. The difference between the two, according to Scripture, is not a set amount of time, nor a checklist of good deeds, nor level of intellect, nor is it the number of theological degrees earned. Rather, a mature Christian is marked by behavior: “who by constant use have trained…” The mature believer is the one who has not just received the Gospel at head level, but has allowed it to take root in their hearts and transform them into new creatures who consequently behave very differently from the old self. They are the ones who, by faith, put God’s truth into constant practice and learn to see reality from God’s perspective. We might expect these new, transformed creatures to be hungry, just like our little frogs who couldn’t wait to digest something a little more toothsome than leaves. That hunger for solid Truth is a sure sign of a maturing Christian who humbly recognizes his need for the One who feeds him. </span></p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lord God, please give me an appetite for your Truth. May I be transformed by it into the Christ-like creature you desire me to be. May the meat of the Gospel strengthen me to do the good works you’ve given me to do. Amen.</span></p>

Are jealousy and quarreling present in your life or church community? Seek the Lord and the transforming power of his Gospel to help you mature beyond these old ways. </span></p>

<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.</span></i> <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%202%3A9&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;"><em>1 Corinthians 2:9</em></span></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There is something deeply moving about receiving the gift of another&#8217;s preparation. A meal crafted with care, each course thoughtfully chosen, the flavors building on one another in ways that delight without effort on your part. A trip planned by someone who loves you, every detail considered, every contingency addressed, so all you have to do is show up and receive the experience. A milestone celebration quietly organized by someone who knows you well enough to include every touch that makes it personal and unforgettable. In each of these moments, you did not earn the preparation. You simply received it with gratitude. And your receiving, your genuine, unhurried, grateful presence in the gift, was itself the response the giver hoped for.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Jesus is preparing something. </span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2014%3A3%20&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">John 14:3</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> contains one of the most breathtaking promises in all of Scripture. He has gone ahead. He is actively working on your behalf right now and will return to bring you to Himself personally. This is not a metaphor or a poetic sentiment. It is a specific, intentional, loving declaration from the Son of God to every person who belongs to Him. Your eternal home is being prepared by the most capable and most loving One in existence. And </span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%202%3A9&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">1 Corinthians 2:9</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> tells us that what He is preparing exceeds every category of human imagination. Not merely better than the best thing you have ever experienced. Beyond what the eye has seen. Beyond what the ear has heard. Beyond what the most creative and hopeful human heart has ever conceived. The preparation is an extraordinary example of personalized love.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But here is the reciprocal truth embedded in this promise. Just as Jesus prepares a place for us in heaven, we are called to prepare ourselves on earth. The recipient of another&#8217;s preparation is still responsible for showing up ready to receive it. The guest invited to the carefully prepared meal still needs to come to the table. The traveler whose itinerary has been flawlessly planned still needs to pack their bags and board the plane.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Preparing ourselves to meet God is a lifelong work. It is the daily practice of loving Him and being loved by Him, deepening the relationship now that will be consummated in eternity. It is choosing prayer over distraction, Scripture over noise, obedience over convenience, and people over productivity. It is living with eternity in view so that the things of earth remain in their proper proportion. </span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2012%3A1-2&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hebrews 12:1</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> calls us to run the race set before us with endurance, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. That forward orientation, living today in light of what is coming, is the posture of someone who takes preparation seriously from both directions. God is preparing heaven for you. Are you preparing yourself for heaven?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Begin each morning with a simple question: if Jesus returned today, would He find me doing and becoming an expression of His love? Let that question shape your choices before the day gains momentum. Invest in your relationship with God now with the same seriousness you would give any relationship you deeply value. You do not want to meet the Lord as a stranger whom you had always meant to get to know better. Live generously and love freely, not to earn a place that He has already prepared, but because a life oriented toward eternity naturally loosens its grip on the temporary and opens its hands toward what lasts. Be prepared to receive God’s preparations.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Instead, they were longing for a better country — a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them” (</span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2011%3A16&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hebrews 11:16</span></a>).</p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lord, thank you for the extraordinary promise that you have gone ahead to prepare a place for me. While I wait, prepare me, shape my heart, deepen my love, and help me live today in light of what is coming. In Jesus’ name, Amen.</span></p>

<p><b>Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – May 31, 2026</b></p>
<p><i>We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. </i><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+6%3A4&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Romans 6:4</a></p>
<p>This morning, as I chopped veggies for my lunchtime soup, I thought, “I need some resurrection power today!” Because life often presents challenges to us, today is one of those days when I need God to help me live as the overcomer He says I am.</p>
<p>I haven’t always been clear on what it means to live with resurrection power. Sure, over the years I’ve heard preachers proclaim, “The same power that raised Christ from the dead is available for you today!” If you’ve heard this sentiment, maybe you’ve also thought, <i>That sounds wonderful, but I don’t understand. What does that mean for me? </i></p>
<p>The phrase “Resurrection power” can sound so unearthly and unattainable, but it’s easier to understand when we know that Christ was resurrected by the Spirit of God.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%208%3A11&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Romans 8:11</a> says, “The Spirit of God, who raised Christ Jesus from the dead lives in you.”</p>
<p>The Bible says that you and I have the <i>same power</i> that raised Christ from the dead available to us. That power has been passed onto us from Christ because we are children of God. This power isn’t something you have to earn. It’s not something you have to muster up. It’s inside of you. It’s your inheritance. It’s God at work in you through the Holy Spirit.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+3%3A20+&amp;version=NIV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ephesians 3:20</a> says: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us . . .”</p>
<p>Hallelujah! Living in resurrection power means living in the power of the Holy Spirit. It means that right now you and I have the power to be overcomers in all we face. This doesn’t mean all your troubles will disappear, but it does mean the Lord wants to give you His heavenly, truth-filled perspective and wisdom to “get above” your problems.</p>
<p>Recently, I attended Easter service with one of our girls, our son-in-law, and grandsons. The pastor shared a moving message.</p>
<p>“You don’t have to wait for resurrection power. It’s yours TODAY! Because Jesus got up, you can get up TODAY! It doesn’t matter how far you’ve come; how difficult life has been, or how insignificant you feel. Because Christ got up, you can get up TODAY!”</p>
<p>Your current troubles have not been allowed in your life to keep you down. They have been designed to elevate you. They are a gift so you can experience His resurrection power through the Holy Spirit so you can know Him more deeply!</p>
<p>As a child of God, you have His power. You can live as an overcomer.</p>
<p>“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me” (<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah+32%3A27&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jeremiah 32:27</a>)?</p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p>Lord, help me to not live in unbelief. Help me to live by the power of your Holy Spirit.</p>
<p><strong>Application</strong></p><p>Kneel before the Lord today and ask Him what He wants you to know about living in His resurrection power.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As a young man, I remember vividly the first time I came across </span><a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%204%3A13%20&amp;version=NKJV" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Philippians 4:13</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in my Bible. It was like I had stumbled across a cheat code, a magical verse that no one had ever found before that was going to be my secret power. I can do…all things? My youthful imagination instantly began to run wild. I could be an NBA basketball star? I could have endless money? I could convince any girl to fall for me? Just think of the possibilities! Through Christ, of course. Through Christ. But still…</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">all things</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In one of my first jobs as a young adult, I remember being in my mid-20s and talking with my boss, who was in his early 70s at the time. He was reminiscing about his career and talked to me about the moment he realized his life was not an ever-expanding horizon of possibilities but had begun to narrow. It was the sobering realization that he wouldn&#8217;t do all the things he might have wanted to do. He was encountering his limitations, both physically and temporally. There simply wasn&#8217;t enough time. He was not going to be a surgeon. He was not going to be a financial analyst. He was not going to learn a new language. On and on the list could go. He was not going to do all things.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Instead, he had learned the powerful lesson each of us has to learn. He was going to do, and through Christ was able to do, all the things he had been asked to do. Christ gives you the strength to do all the things you’ve uniquely been called to do. Sometimes this is the strength needed to do great things in his name: start a ministry, raise children, bless your neighbor. Yet other times it is also the strength to bear what would otherwise be a crushing burden: a cancer diagnosis, financial instability, relational heartache. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will not have to face every trial known to mankind. Yet in all the things that come your way, in Christ you can be confident that you will be made brave and given the strength needed to bear even the greatest burden. </span></p>
<p><strong>Prayer</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Father, thank you that in Christ we can do all the things you ask us to do, knowing that he lifts us up and carries us even in our weakest moments. Amen. </span></p>
<p><strong>Application</strong></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Remember that whatever you are facing today, Christ is with you and will give you the strength you need to face it with courage and faith. </span></p>
