Sunday June 1st, 2008 Host: George Noory Futurist John Jay Harper shared his investigation into native shamanism as it correlates with the near-death experience (NDE), earth changes, and a global shift in consciousness. The shamanic tradition dates back thousands of years. Shamans, often engaged in healing work, travel to other realms and then translate back symbols of what they’ve seen, he explained. The shamanic experience shares similarities to NDEs, with an “initiate” traveling to the other side. Near death experiencer, George Ritchie, described realms of a higher vibrational rate that co-exist just above our world, and contain laboratories and schools. One of the common themes Harper uncovered in his NDE research was of earth transformations to come. During a 20-year period (begun in 1992) a major solar event will trigger a pole shift and the melting of the ice caps, he detailed. Harper, through his own visions, sees regional disruptions due to earthquakes on both the East and West coasts, as well as the Midwest. An event on the West Coast could be centered around a fault line near Eureka, CA, he added. Harper also expressed concern over people living on the coastlines, and warned of tsunami dangers.

Theword shaman originated from a word in Siberia and eventually came to be applied to all medicine men and women of indigenous cultures who’s practice includes the flight of the soul. Anthropologist studying indigenous cultures throughout the world, began to find that for different cultures, there were similarities in the way the medicine men and women worked with healing and connecting to the spiritual aspect of people and the world. While there were differences specific to culture, removing the the cultural reference revealed a core system of practice. The core practices are called core-Shamanism – a phrase coined by Michael Harner. Shamanism is the practice of these core techniques, either for healing or to gain spiritual knowledge. Shamanism is sometime studied with the cultural reference, sometimes without, but the essential nature of the shamanic practice does not change, nor has it changed since ancient times. It has adapted to fit the times or the culture, but its essential core has been the same. Shamanism is not a religion, not unless you want to make it into one. It has been and is being practiced by peoples of many religions, from Christianity, to Judaism, to Hinduism. You will find shamanic practitioners of every faith. So what then is shamanism? The three pillars of the Foundation include teaching, researching, and preserving shamanic knowledge. These aspects of Foundations work are carried out through the workshops and advanced training programs, the Living Treasures of Shamanism and Indigenous Assistance, and the Shamanic Knowledge Conservatory. The Living Treasures of Shamanism program provides an annual lifetime stipend to exceptionally distinguished indigenous shamans in less-developed countries, where their age-old knowledge of shamanism and shamanic healing is in danger of extinction. Special care is given to providing the economic assistance necessary to allow these Living Treasures to pass on their knowledge to their people. The eldest shaman, Pau Karma Wangchuk, was the Foundation’s first Living Treasure. Pau Wangchuk recently passed on, though Foundation Field Associate, Sarah Sifers continues to work with his son and grandson waiting to see if perhaps Pau Wangchuk’s grandson will have the fate to be a Lhapa (shaman). Jan Irvin is an author, lecturer and researcher in archaeoastronomy, astrotheology, ethnopharmacology, shamanism, symbolism, ancient and modern mythology, fertility cults and ancient and modern religion. He co-authored the book Astrotheology & Shamanism: Unveiling the Law of Duality in Christianity and Other Religions, 2006, with Andrew Rutajit. He also co-produced the DVD The Pharmacratic Inquisition, 2007, and Sexual Symbolism in Religion, 2007, also with Andrew Rutajit. He is also the author of a new book entitled The Holy Mushroom — The Evidence of Mushrooms in Judeo-Christianity, 2008. He is the curator of the official website for John Marco Allegro, the much criticized Dead Sea Scrolls scholar, and has contributed much to the re-examination of many of Allegro’s theories. Last year he contributed research toward the academic article Wasson and Allegro on the Tree of Knowledge as Amanita, 2006, with Michael Hoffman. This article is to be published in the The Journal of Higher Criticism. He has been featured in the documentaries The American Drug War, to be aired on Showtime this March. He’s also featured in the recently released Canadian film called High Jacking Humanity. He brings with him over 15 years of research into the study of ethno-pharmacology and drugs. Hello friends! It has been a while since I’ve posted a new video, but I’m wrapping up 2007 with some more Lakota history. I’ve really had a lot of fun creating my video-comics and sharing these bits of history with you. I’m not saying this will be my last video, but 2008 may open up new doors and interests, and the projects I seek to do, including video projects, may take on a different form. Thats all part of growing. Through the posts and messages on Youtube, I’ve connected with Native peoples from all around the country. That has been the best thing about these videos for me. For you, the viewer, I just hope you’ve taken away something that will stay with you and grow. Don’t take another person’s word as the truth, not even mine. Question everything, and try to see the world with a fresh perspective. Study things that peak your curiosity, you may be surprised where it will lead you. You may even see the world and yourself in a new way.
