Ratting Out the Panhandlers, Illegal Day Laborers of Salt Lake City

Have you ever gone shopping, to a movie, or to get gas and on the corner is a panhandler with their cardboard sign claiming that they are homeless, starving, a Veteran, need money, etc? Do you ever see that many of them look well fed, actually semi-clean and work the same street corner, freeway off ramp, or shopping center exit?

Why does the city allow these vagabonds to beg for money on the corners? Does Salt Lake City have no pride? Panhandlers not only work the interstates and shopping centers, but also work over people out on the streets. If you say "no" to one, he usually just walks away. Sometimes though, things can get a bit tense, especially if there is some mental illness or other needy reason.

Now I am not saying there aren't legitimate cases of desperate, truly homeless, down on their luck people out there, who through no fault of their own end up on the skids. What I am saying is there are those out there who choose to beg for their livlihoods rather than work for them. Especially when you see the same bums "working" the same locations.

I assume that the panhandling community has hierarchies of who gets to work the most profitable territories. New to the streets? Better not take over the best begging sites. I have heard that there have actually been fights over street corners and shopping centers between the bums.

When some giving soul opens up their purse or wallet to give a hand out where is that money going? Food? Drugs? Paying the bum's bills so he doesn't have to work? Are these charitable contributions really helping, or just enabling? Any tax dollars collected from these professional beggars? Goods or services exchanged for the cash they take? Very doubtful.

Work the right corner and some nice person with $100 bills hands the man just one and he has got his day's filthy lucre and can go onto better things, like his nice pad, car, big screen TV etc. Oh yes! What about that junkie? Just helped him get his next meth fix or drink. Wow! What charity!

What would Jesus say to the dishonest beggar? "Get ye a job!"

Another problem I see is illegal aliens lined up at the day labor line. Everybody knows why they are there, but no body will say anything. Where do you see a bunch of Hispanic men, Mexican and Central American looking lined up for a social gathering? Certainly not Starbucks! Home Depot!

And why Home Depot? Because contractors come to get supplies, including cheap and illegal labor. Would a dude with a real job and green card be standing on a busy street corner waiting for the temp services or a real job? Of course not. They would be working at the job or getting one through legal channels, because there is no need to be off the radar.

So I as a dutiful citizen am calling them out. So if you live in Salt Lake City or thereabouts you can notice the nuisances and not patronize them.

Let The Republican Presidential Hopefuls Fight It Out!

Listening to the radio I have noticed some pundits commenting about Mitt Romney, Newt Gengrich, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman, and Ron Paul. They have given their opinion and analysis on each of these candidates along with others who have called it an election and thrown in the towel such as Michelle Bachman.

Republicans should not criticize Republicans. I say let them debate and mudsling it out. The election is too important to not field the strongest candidate against the Obama machine.

Barack Obama wants to hold onto power and he will do pretty much anything to secure another term. He believes that America as it has been founded and carried on its business over the past 230 some odd years is not right and he will save us all from our own ignorance and capitalist greed. He will do it even if the masses don't want it. He is the ruler and we are his subjects.

In order to reverse course and save our nation we need a strong candidate that can withstand the lies, distortion, reputation destruction, and personal attacks that Obama and his henchmen will throw. They know they are unpopular and cannot win a straight up fight. So the challenger will need to be able to be not just a fighter, but an aggressive and outgoing fighter, who takes the fight to Obama. Obama will show no mercy, so the Republicans will have to take him down just as hard.

So as Mitt, Newt, Rick, Jon and Ron Paul jockey for delegates and votes let them duke it out. After the Republican nominee is chosen, he has a dirty fight ahead of him. Obama will not go quietly and the opposition should not play within the "rules."

With our republic at stake we cannot let President Obama get four more years. He has a plan none of us like now and we ain't seen nothing yet as far as hope and change if Obama gets reelected.

So let the presumptive nominee wannabees duke it out. All will be united against Obama after the Republican convention and may the best man (or woman if Sarah Palin jumps in) win.

2011 is nearly over. A new year is ahead. It seems that each December 31 this mantra is played over and over. So what is in a New Year? Resolutions? Reformations? Recollections? Regrets? One thing is for certain an national election will happen in the United States and decisions will be made that change the course of our nation's history.

I accidently came across a website for one Nicolas Ruiz III running for Florida's 24th Congressional District. I read his platform and it appears it was taken straight out of the Democrat talking points book for statist liberals.

I won't go into his platform you can go to his website and check out his platform, or just listen to Nancy Pelosi. But his type of ideology is the type that is destroying America. And sorry to say it looks like he has the endorsement of a famous band which I like musicwise, but if they are backing him, not politically.

Mr Ruiz could even be Barack Obama the Florida version. If we are to take back our nation we must look to 2012 as a banner year to restore American values.

We must harness the energy we have under our own feet. We must develop coal, oil, natural gas alongside renewable energies. We must work with Canada to get the oil pipeline built to get Canadian oil refined in American refineries and the product distributed to American, Canadian, and international markets creating new jobs across many sectors.

We must harness the power of the atom. Not for bombs, but for power plants. Nuclear power is one way to get clean, reliable power to market and free up coal to be turned into fuel such as oil and related products.

Coal fired plants should still produce electricity as we should continue to have a diverse portfolio of energy bases. Electricity powers homes and businesses and oil and gas heat our environments, cook our food, heat our water, and move our planes, trains, and automobiles.

We need to invest and build up our military again. We need to update our weaponry and defenses. Other nations like China are eyeballing potential conflict with the US. We cannot turn a blind eye to them. We need to get back to the idea of winning wars like we did up to World War II. Otherwise we will not survive as a nation against our enemies inside our out.

Ruiz talks about the Tea Party Caucus entertaining corporations and tax credits for the rich as what our problems will not be solved by. Capitalism creates jobs. Big corporations started as small businesses at some point in their history. Small businesses provide the most jobs. Unleash the private sector. Scale back regulations in all areas of commerce.

Secure our borders north and south and with Alaska. Protect our waters around Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and other US soil off continent. Scale down our military not by decreasing manpower but by consolidating our resources. Time for Europe to defend herself and Japan as well. South Korea sadly is a different story, but we should make these nations that benefit from US bases increase their own militaries in case we need ours.

We should repair damage done by this Obama regime with our allies from the UK to Israel. We should encourage and reward self reliance and discourage government dependence. We should reign in our courts by constitutional tools and mandate that Congress do it. We should reevaluate the role of the Supreme Court in final arbitration and if necessary make constitutional adjustments such as removing the life time job guarantee to a renewable appointment approved by Congress for each appointed Justice from top to bottom.

All the answers can't be discussed here, but if we follow the platform of Mr. Ruiz and his ilk we will walk the plank. Sharks anyone? When we get a good solid GOP nominee we should back him/her to the fullest and beat back establishment hacks in the GOP who want the status quo.

Occupy Wall Street is the forerunner to Greece and France. Those riots are coming here. Take away free government cheese and the rats come out screaming. But the cheese must go and then we deal with the rats as needs be.

Utopia will not exist in the world as we know it. We can ease the pain of the downtrodden, assist the poor, and help the sick, but only if we are strong. The sick and weak do nothing for the destitute, because they can't even help themselves. Only the strong can help those who are sick and in need. Strong mentally, spiritually, physically, psychologically, and morally. These methods are proven and their detractors know this, but they would rather have their own fantasies satisfied than keep the nation that allows them to be free, out of the hands of our oppressors.

2012 will be a defining year. The world won't end I don't think, but lifestyles and freedoms will if we do not fight back against the liberal dogma with more resistance and run those who embrace it out of power.

Dead Week: A Time for Contemplation

"Dead Week" as I call it or the week that begins Christmas Day and ends New Year's Day. If you work you probably are just surfing the Internet or tying up last minute loose ends. If you are taking time off you are recreating, enjoying your Christmas break, or returning those unwanted gifts from grandpa.

Not much substance of anything happens during Dead Week. The news even scrambles for stories unless of course something horrible comes up like the Tsunami of 2004 that hit December 26 killing 200,000 people. Now I hope it really is a dead week who wants news like that?

Dead Week though does have its advantages. As the slow winding down of 2011 takes place, we contemplate what has happened last year, make resolutions and goals for next year, and reflect on many memories gone by. We contemplate the future of ourselves, children, and those after us long after we have assumed room temperature.

This next year, 2012 America will make one of the biggest decisions since the Civil War. Will we remain a nation as we were founded or will we throw ourselves to the dogs of fate hoping there are a few scraps of Uncle Sam left after the feeding frenzy? There are politicians, businessmen, celebrities, the "entitled" and the self loathing who want nothing more for America than for it to be something other than it was founded.

But the rise of opposition to these un American values has become increasing. The spirit of our Founding Fathers is returning and rejecting the likes of Barack Obama, leftists, statists, and all other types of creatures that use the blessings of America to destroy it.

As Americans rise up to take back their nation, we will not be without opposition. Those who have power will not give it up easily and will resort to fraud, trickery, flattery, promises, and lies to keep power. There are those who have advocated violence if necessary to keep America flat. But whatever our enemies without or within throw at us we will match it as necessary and fight to win. Sadly nothing can be considered off the table, but let us hope that the tools of peace are the first ones used before anything else is ever, ever needed.

But being a realist I also understand that if other means are ever necessary to secure our freedom other than the peace, then we will take that challenge when it comes, win, and restore the freedom others have fought to maintain and win back the peace. War is often fought on many fronts, almost all of them nonviolent. But we must also remember that if we will only go half way to maintain liberty, then we will lose more than that amount in proportion.

There is no balancing act in the war for or against freedom. You are for it or against it. You can't say you are for the freedom of religion and yet fight to have religion eliminated. You cannot say you are for freedom of speech if only "your speech" is the kind permitted. You cannot say you are for liberty if you cannot tolerate opposition. You cannot say you are for freedom if you allow the lawless to dictate the terms of liberty.

Good embraces freedom and evil opposes it. It has always been that way. Take a look around you at the world now! There are those who openly define freedom as weakness and coercion as strength. Absolute debauchery must be allowed to coexist with clean righteous living. The many philosophies out there are meant to confuse the masses, turn them against one another, and finally implode society. Not all philosophy is bad, much is good, but one must seek it, recognize it, and embrace it. Merely saying "wow that looks good" is not good, it is foolish.

Truths that work are not new here. They have been tested over thousands of years and they work when implemented correctly. Sometimes societies must cleanse themselves of the filth and set the boundaries necessary so all can be protected, not just some. When some are "protected" none truly are. Dictators like Hitler, Stalin, Che, Castro, Pol Pot have all shown that all, including the "elite" are expendable if they do not meet the "standard" of the craziness that is evil.

So as we look to the new year, let us reflect on what is truly necessary to keep America great and good and what needs to go to the landfill of history. The spirit of common sense will be our guide, God our model, and right our vehicle to claim our liberties again.

The True Meaning of Christmas

Christmas is now upon us for 2011. There have been specials on TV, carolers singing songs of good will and winter fun, office parties, get togethers with family and friends, and all the commercialism that you can handle. Most people think that they know the true meaning of Christmas. Do we?

Contrasting the commercialism is the good will toward others, taking care of those in need, reflecting on another year gone by. But what is the true meaning? There must be something to Christmas if not only the celebrations taking place, but those who want to erase Christmas altogether from the politically correct to those who want to force their unbelief in God on others. What is it most people are celebrating and a small minority jeer at?

Some 2000 plus years ago a babe in Bethlehem was born. Some say April others say winter time, but is the timing more important or the event? The event was the birth of a young man Jesus Christ, to Mary his mother and Joseph his step-father at a small stable in the City of David. God his Father looked down from the heavens to see his Son begin a great journey through mortal life into immortality and exaltation.

Who was this babe who would change the world? The babe that prophets had testified before His coming and prophets and apostles after his coming would witness? He was the Great I Am of the Old Testament, Jehovah. From the time of Adam to 2000 years ago righteous men had testified of His birth and mission. Told of the signs of the condescension of Jehovah from above, to atone for the sins of the world. Adam was aware of this when he and Eve were driven out of the Garden of Eden and that in time their Savior and the Savior of all mankind, their decedents would come.

Isaiah spoke of Christ extensively telling us about his character, his mission, and his great accomplishment to come. Moses raised a symbol of Christ by fastening a brass serpent to a cross when the Children of Israel were bitten by poisonous snakes that who should look up to the serpent upon the cross would live, while those who looked down should perish.

Others many thousands of miles away testified of his mission as well in great detail. Men from the East aware of the Messiah to come saw the Star of Bethlehem in the east and followed it some two years finding the Christ child alive.

Jehovah the Great I Am would at His Father's command and will descend from his status as a God to take on a body of flesh and blood. Dwell among men. Live as a man. Laugh and find joy and trials and sorrow just like his brothers and sisters. Then He would suffer for the sins of the World that men might be redeemed to God the Father according to His will through Jesus Christ, Jehovah, the Great I Am through his blood. Like him they would resurrected from the dead, all of them. Those who believed on His name and kept is commandments would get more than immortality, they would get Eternal Life and be joint heirs with Christ to His Father's blessings.

He was the Word, with the Father in the beginning, the Firstborn of the Father. It was under Jesus Christ's command that Lucifer and his followers were cast out of Heaven for rebellion against God by Michael the Archangel and his followers.

There is a song that is called "What if God Was One of Us?" from a few years back. Jesus Christ under the direction of His Father became as one of us. He was born through the birthing process from Mary. He fled with Joseph his Step-father and mother to Egypt until King Herod's evil decree was over. He was in the Temple at Jerusalem teaching the doctrine when Mary and Joseph were looking for Him. His occupation? A carpenter. Making goods to sell to support his family until the time to begin his Ministry at age 30. A Rabbi and Teacher among the people after his Baptism by John the Baptist in Jordan. But most of all the Son of God in the flesh, the only Son of God the Father in both spirit and flesh.

He was arrested and falsely accused by evil men. Whipped, beaten, spat upon, mocked, abused, left to die because Pontius Pilate was a coward and gave into political expediency than righteous judgment. Before all of this he prayed to His Father to let the cup pass from Him, but would carry out His Father's will rather than his own. He was denied by friends, left to carry his own cross, and then nailed to it in the hands, wrists and feet.

He did this all for the sins of mankind that through satisfying the laws of justice, mercy might be extended to all mankind, and each justly judged according to his works in the flesh at the final judgment to receive their portion of the inheritance prepared in heaven for them, or to be cast out to suffer the torment of the damned until they had met the requirements to be redeemed from hell and given a station thereafter. Even then their resurrection could not have been possible without His divine sacrifice. All our existence, all of mankind's existence would have been in vain as all fall short of the ability to live with God the Father and Jesus Christ.

Let us all remember to thank God the Father for sending his only begotten son from his status of godhood to fulfill this mission. We have promise of His eventual return when evil is rampant and the righteous cry out to God for vengeance upon the wicked and unrepentant to rule and reign 1000 years over all of us.

This is all made possible because of a birth in a stable some 2000 plus years ago. That is what Christmas is about. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What I Have Learned From Leaving Utah County Thus Far

Sometimes in life new adventures come into our lives or rites of passage if you will. Well following several changes in my life I found myself up in the Salt Lake City area proper. Now I am a Utah County, Utah product of some 42.5 years with the exception of 4 years. From 1975 to 1977 I lived just south of the Salt Lake City area, but that doesn't count.

American Fork, Utah is my hometown. I never did stray far from there until a month ago. I worked in Salt Lake and Provo and in between. I never thought I would find myself here. But here I am. But one thing I can say I am initially glad that I "moved" away from home.

I have lived all over central and northern Utah County, the happiest county on earth. Provo, Orem, American Fork, and Lehi. American Fork was where I grew up the longest so that is my home town. After that Lehi is the longest place that I lived 2001 to 2011.

Now at midlife I begin anew. I was one of those kids who said I am leaving this area for good. Going to see the world. Well I haven't seen the world, but I have seen a good chunk of the western US. I have been in every Western US state excluding Alaska and Hawaii. I have been in Texas and Maryland and Tijuana, Mexico. But living in an area and working or traveling around are indeed two different things.

One of the biggest barriers to moving was myself. It is always easiest to put up with what one knows, even if they don't tend to like it very much or are so used to it they have become set in their ways. But I was never destined to march to the drum of the others around me. Just ask those people who put up with me daily.

I finally have crossed the Point of the Mountain. Mom and Dad aren't thrilled about the idea of me living 30 miles due north, but well, safety, security and low risk are their thing. I am the same way, just not like Pa and Ma.

Anxiety kept me from moving for all those years and now, I have finally left my geographic home. I am a stranger in a strange land and believe me Salt Lake City can be strange. I have worked here well over half my career. But living somewhere long term and just working there are different things. When you work someplace you sit in an office all day, go to lunch, walk around, but mainly work and go home to the wife and kids. You also go home to the community you live in.

I have not known any other community than Utah County, Utah. 97% of the population is LDS, as am I. But there is a peculiar culture to the Mormons of Utah County versus the LDS community I belong too in Salt Lake City.

For example, a good portion of the LDS members in Utah County are "living in Zion" and are all fluff on the outside and personality is really only skin deep. Don't get me wrong. I know some great people in Utah County. We are the oddballs. The we never fit in types. My experience tells me though that there are too many holier than thous down south. And now I have come north to Salt Lake County I probably will not return to my homeland south.

I am not purporting to be better than my fellow Utah County folk, just different. I have been accused of being from California, having a cannon for a mouth, marching to the wrong beat et al. But that is the beauty of being me. But after my last son left high school it was time to move. I felt the pull of the northern big city lights, but alas that anxiety bastard was in full stay put mode. Well circumstances conspired and freed me. Not the way I would have planned it, but nonetheless I would not have put myself on the east side of Salt Lake City.

The people up here in Salt Lake are more down to earth, more genuine, more honest about who they are. They do not have the anal zoobie Mormon culture in Utah County. Mormon Culture is not the LDS Church culture, it is its own creature. You must live among the heathen to know what it is to be out of your element.

Well one month has taught me that I am among some good people and it is early on. Time will tell where this all leads to. But one thing is for sure. Bye Bye Utah County, the time has come to say Adieu permanently.

And to all those people with their heads in their butts, I wish you well. I have gone forth and there is a journey waiting to be completed elsewhere. I am one of the last sane Utah County natives to be driven out by sheer I am sick of this crowd. So to Lehi I bid the fond farewell and I won't miss your roadkill, or stinky mink farms. I will miss the power bills, but that is it. No more ye haw Round Up rodeo. No more stuffed suits on Sunday. I think it is a great blessing to move forward from the backward thinking that is Utah County.

Thankfulness and The Constitution

We as Americans have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend. Unfortunately, too many of us don't remember what gratitude is and Who that gratitude should be directed toward.

We truly have been blessed above all the nations of the world because of the Hand of Providence has chosen to bless us as a nation. We did not ask for this responsibility, it was given to us by Him who's hand it is to bless us. We cannot bless ourselves, we can only ask to be blessed by one who has that power. No man in and of himself has that power, God does. If we do bless the lives of others it is because He gives us the power to do so.

Many people do see God's hand in all things or at least some things. But God is real. He does exist. He does appreciate gratitude.

How loving has God been to his children in America? Through wise men raised up to found this American Nation, God formed the United States. He set it apart from all the peoples of the Earth. He inspired men to write the Declaration of Independence and The United States Constitution. He chose men from all walks of life to found this nation. George Washington was a planter, Ben Franklin a businessman, inventor, politician, and so on, Thomas Jefferson, a statesman and plantation owner, Thomas Paine a journalist and propagandist, Samuel Adams, a brewer and many more who were raised to lay the foundations of this great nation.

These men in life were imperfect human beings, who had agendas, passions, ambitions, religious beliefs varying in degree, and many did not get along publicly or privately. But they all understood gratitude to Someone greater than themselves. Even Thomas Paine an atheist recognized there was a greater force than himself at work when he wrote "Common Sense."

When our Constitution was crafted there was much debate, argument, favor swapping, and hard selling just to get a document written to replace the nation's first constitution, The Articles of Confederation. In the end some patriots like Patrick Henry wanted nothing to do with the new Constitution, but he still played a hand in getting us this great document.

Many of the Founding Fathers were indeed insightful regarding the future of the nation under such a document, never before produced by the hand of man, and not equaled since. It is because its true Author is God.

Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, all had a sense that the nation would face a great peril. A day when the Constitution would be tested to it's limits. Other men both prominent and less known also saw this day. Now, that day is upon us. The day when the Constitution hangs by a thread. The thread that it hangs by could be many things, but one thing that is definitely is part of that thread is gratitude.

Being grateful for the blessings we have as a nation to God brings with it His protection. Forget thankfulness and lose our connection to God. Ungrateful people are people like the Occupy Wall Street crowd, those in the media, and many politicians as well as an ever increasing portion of our population. We should never forget that God has given us this great land to all who are currently here, and He has it in his power to take it away.
Many times that is by Him withdrawing his hand and allowing blessings of liberty to be replaced by loss of freedoms and ultimately tyranny. But as long as there are thankful people in this nation, may God recognize their faith and gratitude to preserve and keep us a nation. He wants to bless us and give us the prosperity. He has chosen all who live here regardless of race, sex, creed, ethnicity, or religion who are here and fear Him, to prosper. Only when men and women fail to recognize God's love and hand in all things is His hand withdrawn, fellowship taken, and we are left to ourselves without divine protection, and possibly overthrow by enemies within and without.

This Thanksgiving and Holiday season it is more important than ever to realize where your blessings come from, stand up for truth and liberty, ostracize those who corrupt and seek to destroy what we have as a nation, and pray for His help in taking back our country.

GOP Presidential candidate Herman Cain seems to get stronger support even though the Politico and the lame stream media have tried to make a non story reality. We keep hearing of "sources" and alleged "victims" that refuse to come forth, while their lawyers state that they have information ready to go forward and then the clients retract.

In the meantime Herman Cain has stated what he knows, doesn't know, doesn't remember, and seems to be gaining steam. Just what the Politico and lame stream media did not want to happen. Cain was supposed to be the "high tech lynching" victim. But instead the only "strange fruit" hanging from the tree is the Politico's reputation.

So what are we to make of this? When Bill Clinton, a sitting President was caught with his pants down the lame stream media tried to get "little willie" back in the pants and zip that story up. Didn't work and he was impeached and had his law license revoked for five years.

More information was in Bill's pants than Herman Cain's allegations of sexual harassment. So it appears that Cain will continue to rise for the time being. The more the media circle the wagons, the more arrows they fire, the bigger Herman Cain will become and gain more respect from the citizenry.

If there is anything to really report on Herman Cain, get on with it! Otherwise it will become the same story that the "Bush National Guard" story did, without merit and shamed into the halls of yellow journalism.

This time the US Attorneys for the District of Western Texas have obtained a conviction against Agent Jesus Diaz. Diaz is accused of violating an illegal criminal aliens Constitutional rights by pulling him up and hurting him while the scum bag drug runner was in handcuffs.

Apparently these same rogue prosecutors went after a Edwards County Sheriff in Texas after he shot out a illegal criminal alien's van tires.

This just shows you how corrupt this District fot Western Texas is. They side with the Mexican Government and their illegal criminals and put our agents who are defending the southern frontier in jail.

Columbus Day

Columbus Day is upon us again. Some say why celebrate Columbus Day? There are American Indian tribes who refuse to celebrate the holiday because he sparked the invasion of exploration from Europe. Those Europeans brought disease, distruction, conquest, enslavement and the WHITE MAN!

There are others who minimalize Columbus' great "discovery" of the New World to a man lost in the Atlantic and needed help, desparate help, who when saved by the natives, came back and mistreated them.

Still others fail to recognize who the man really was.

I am not Christopher Columbus "Mr. Know It All," but I do know a few things.

Columbus was an explorer, a man of his day. He wanted to go beyond the known world and see what was out there. Sometimes not knowing completely what he was in for. Europeans had been trying to get to India for a long time on shorter trade routes, but had been unsuccessful avoiding the hazards of rounding the African Continent.

After many failed attempts, Columbus, believing he was inspired of God, set sail west for the unknown with his three original ships, Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. After many trials at sea he made contact with land on an island in the West Indies.

He was disappointed by what he found when he realized that his trade route, was indeed not a shortcut at all, but uncharted territory in new lands. Others would follow from the nations of Europe. Spain, Portugal, Italy, England, Denmark and others would search for gold, new lands to colonize, and adventure.

With the Europeans came disease above all the negatives that they brought with them. Now historical revisionists would tell you that there was some sort of "plot" or other theory that the Europeans tried to kill of the American Indian tribes by Small Pox, syphilis, and other diseases. But the truth is that Europeans had no knowledge of microbes, bacteria, and such. They did not know what "immunity" was. Many of them were dying of these diseases with immunity to them, so the Indian tribes were sadly unimmune and much more likely to succumb to the diseases. There was no intent on almost all the Europeans to spread disease and kill. They had guns and gunpowder. That was far superior to conquest by germs.

Those who balk at Columbus' voyage only balk at the inevitable. Contemporaries of Christopher Columbus were also ready to see what was beyond the horizon, and the Europeans would have come anyway. Columbus is the one credited with this connection of Old World and New World.

I am a beneficiary of this union. One of my ancestor is a full blooded Seminole Indian. I would not be here without my fifth great grandmother, she married an English man. I have a great respect for the Seminoles and their people.

Today's Indians can resent history and balk at it or recognize that it occurred and work on their future instead of blaming those who travelled the globe long ago and did wrongfully hurt their ancestors in intentional ways far more than the diseases they brought.

Thanks to the Native Americans we now have tobacco all over the world, so was it all that bad?

I salute Christopher Columbus as an inspired man of God. He took on God's challenge to go beyond the known horizon and see what God would show him. The rest the great, good, bad, and ugly is indeed history.

Adjunct Observations: Teaching Against The Grain

When I got out of class last week a student of mine pulled me aside and thanked me for being an "excellent" professor. I thanked him and we parted ways. As I went my way I overheard him again tell his fellow students he was with the same thing. I really was amazed that this student thought that I had made a difference in his educational experience.

I teach from a conservative viewpoint. Many of my colleagues do not. Liberal academia is the order of the day. When other professors teach moral relativism in their respective fields I actually acknowledge that there is good and evil in the world. I caution my students to look for that in their studies and general life. Teaching ethics is getting more difficult as the academics trade in moral compasses for moral relativism.

Though convenient, this is incorrect. Good and evil do exist and I would mislead my students would do otherwise. As our society changes morals constants of truth do not change. Consequences follow actions for good or ill and cannot be wished away.

I do feel that I am putting my job on the line. I teach sociology and the core principles, philosophies associated with the discipline. But students by and large do respond to truth. I am glad to teach against the grain. My students will be better off for it.

Obama Committed To America's Decline

No matter what the polls say, no matter how many elections fellow Democrats lose, no matter what his opposition says, or his allies for that matter, President Obama is committed to America's decline. From his recycled speeches on jobs, to failed and suspect green energy policies, the man is committed to his ideology.

The schizophrenic once stated that the voices in his head told him he was sane and everyone else in the world is crazy. Obama is not schizophrenic, but he has the same delusional beliefs. America needs to be the next banana republic. He is convinced of his beliefs being right in spite of opposition to them. He feels that he can live like king, act like a prince, golf anytime he wants, and enjoy the most luxurious things in life, all while making sure the rest of us are treated differently. Rich or poor, upper, middle or lower class, we are all the bourgeois and proletariat to Obama.

He is running for President, because he believes he can get us to see the "error" or our ways, or because he will rig the election to come out in his favor, because he is the President. His popularity may be in the toilet, but his political machine is alive and well.

The President is like a tapeworm, sorry to say. He stays hooked in, causes you to lose weight, and America will get very sick extracting him in order to get well again. Obama will do anything to win. Listen to him speak as he orders Congress to do what he wants, not speaking to them as a separate but equal part of the government. He and his gangsters in the regime do what they want even if courts rule against them. Best way to avoid checks and balances is ignore them or defy them. The President has done both.

So while we as citizens try to figure our next move out, which will most likely come November 2012, President Obama will be oiling and making the political machine bigger and better for him. Next years presidential and national elections may have to be the most watched in history.

When the most liberal in society, that are not on the lunatic fringe, are jumping off the USS Obama, he continues to head straight toward the iceberg convinced he won't sink. This time I am rooting for the iceberg. At least then we can start rebuilding the ship and scrap plans for the Obama and build the USS America once again.

Remembering 9/11

Officer Walrus and Officer Rumbly

It all started out like any other Monday. I got up, went through my morning ritual and proceeded to go to work. I got into my car, headed toward the freeway, and got on heading southbound. Nothing out of the ordinary heading into Provo, Utah to work. The only annoyance happened to be the fact the entire freeway around Provo was underneath springtime construction.

I got off the freeway and headed eastbound. Now to get to my work destination I had to go over an old bridge that is pitched toward the center, so it is hard to see cars in front of you. As I was heading eastbound I crested the overpass and saw a Subaru right in front of me. I slammed on the breaks, but to no avail.

I hit the car in front of me and my airbag deployed right in my face as the front end of my Honda crunched up. Dazed, confused, with airbag chemical in my lungs I got out to see if everyone else was alright. The man in front of me, who I hit sustained some minor damage to his car. The person in front of him had been hit by the car I hit due to my impact. That man was also okay, but sustained only a few nicks and scratches to the bumper.

Realizing I was in the middle of traffic, I got back in my car, but the dust from the airbag was very irritating. As I was fishing for paperwork a short, stout, built officer with a long mustache showed up at the passenger window. He asked if I was okay, and I said that I was dazed, but doing fine. Officer Walrus, due to his mustache, then asked me if I could get out of the car. I got out as he asked and the first thing Officer Walrus asked me was "Are you taking any medications?" I thought that odd for a question, so I continued to fish for my papers on the passenger side in the glove box. He then asked me the same question with a bit more force.

I answered his question "Yes." He then asked me what kind I was taking. I explained that I took medication for some health conditions that I had. He asked me what they were when the EMS showed up and asked if I was okay and if I thought I needed to go to the hospital. I stated that I thought that I was okay and I went on fishing for my registration, and insurance card. I had already, as far as I can recall given Officer Walrus my driver's license.

Officer Walrus then asked me if I could do some field sobriety tests right there on the bridge. I thought "What the hell?" but I complied. My head hurt and I was still sick from the airbag dust and the nasty blow to the head as he asked me to heel to toe walk, raise my hands above my head, etc.

It was time to get the car off the bridge as the other two men in the accident had already moved their drivable cars off the bridge down the road to the shoulder. My car was smashed and needed a tow. So I got in Officer Walrus' police cruiser and went down the road to where the other cars were pulled over.

He then asked me to again do field sobriety tests such as heel to toe walking while counting my steps, balance on one leg, then the other, and count. Now keep in mind I had been smacked in the head by an airbag and also hit my head somewhere else, I was seat belted in at the time of the accident as well.

Officer Walrus ordered me to fill out the accident report in the back seat of his car. I tried to write the best that I could about what had happened in the accident when over the police radio I heard my location announced and the dreaded acronym "DUI."

I then knew why I was in the car and the other gentlemen were not. They were going to arrest me for DUI. I thought to myself "why?" Then it occurred to me I had stated that I was on medication for a medical condition. The officer had bagged me for DUI because of my medication. I was let out of the car again and given a couple more sobriety tests, which were damn hard to do with a headache, emotionally upset, and shaken from a car accident.

Officer Walrus then ordered me up against the car, frisked me down, informed me I was under arrest for DUI and place me in the back of his car. I was humiliated. What had I done? I had been taking my medications for years without incident. My doctor was aware I was on them. I followed the prescription as directed, so what was the problem?

Officer Walrus carted me down to the Provo Police Station, let me out and escorted me in. He took me inside to the area where they test drunk drivers and had me sit. It was then that I met Officer Rumbly. Officer Rumbly explained that he was the forensics officer and that he would be doing the more advanced tests and that his findings may be totally different than The Walrus. I knew that was a long shot because the officers stick together.

Before officer Rumbly began his interrogation and testing Officer Walrus read me my rights. I told him I understood them and he turned me over to Officer Rumbly, who seemed to have a strange look on his face as to why the Walrus drug me in for DUI testing. Before Rumbly began his inquisition he joked with Walrus that he was hungry and he had "some rumbly in his tumbly." The Walrus laughed with Rumbly. Rumbly

After giving them the juice of my vine, they had me do some more field sobriety tests. But they did them as a "training exercise" for Officer Walrus. Officer Rumbly acting like the big bad ass cop he thinks he is showed them what to look for in a person's eyes by shining his flashlight right in mine. He had me do heel to walking and reach for the ceiling and again Rumbly told Walrus what to look for in an impaired person.

Finally, when the humiliation was over Officer Walrus took possession of my driver's license, as was required by law and informed me my car was impounded. I had notified my wife I was being arrested so she was at the cop shop when I was finally released. Officer Rumbly told me his "findings" were consistent with those of the Walrus and I was cited for DUI, got my court date. They said that the results had come back positive for what they were looking for. I did say "I told the blood and urine tests would be positive, because these are the medications I am taking as prescribed."

The Walrus then released me to my wife, told me where the state had impounded my car, and went back into the office. One really never gets the full impact of the whole arrest and citation thing when they are being processed. I went to the ER to get checked over just to be safe because I still had a nasty headache. After that my adventure was just beginning

Later that day I went to get stuff out of my impounded car. I had no photo ID as my driver's license had been temporarily suspended. No photo ID, no allowance into the vehicle. I was pissed and threw the keys at the tow yard owner as I left. I lost it at that point I guess.

I realized the situation I was in. I had lost my car to an accident and the state. I couldn't drive and it was necessary for me to do so to get to work. I also had to fight the DUI because I was convinced I was innocent of any wrong doing and not impaired at the time of the accident.

I found a good DUI lawyer and with $500 down he started to work my case. Over the course of time I won my hearing with the Driver's License Division and got my license back. After a nasty fight with the tow company I was able to trade title for cost of storage, as the State of Utah released interest in my car as I won my driver's license back.

Finally, over much angst and waiting my court date came. My lawyer had put together a good case, but anything can happen. As I sat in the courtroom with my wife my lawyer went out with the Provo City Attorney. He came back and said the DUI charge would be dropped as it was a very weak case, but I had to plead to following to close and pay a fine of $120. Tired at that point I got the DUI dropped and it is questionable whether I was "following to close." But however, I wanted out.

Now this mess is over, I tell my story because if I can be charged with DUI for taking prescribed types of medicine, and not abusing them, anyone can. I fought this case because every day thousands of people who take medication for physical or mental conditions hit the road for work, errands, or other life activities.

Little do they know that they are driving DUI and don't even know it! If they get in an accident or pulled over and they admit to taking medicine it might result in a nasty experience like mine, and they might end up with a DUI on their record.

The DUI laws are written to keep drinkers, drug abusers, and pill popper off the road. Most sensible people know that if a type of drug they take makes them unsafe to drive the switch drugs under supervision of their doctor until one they can safely use unimpaired works, or they give up driving knowing they are not safe behind the wheel. But for those people who take medications as prescribed, and otherwise are just like everyone else unimpaired on the road, there are enterprising cops waiting to pad their arrest portfolio.

Officer Walrus (names so because he looked like one at the time) and Officer Rumbly (named after the sensation in his tumbly), are just such cops. The Walrus was looking to reel in a fish and because of my admission he took me in to the police station. Officer Rumbly, could have said "Why did you arrest this man? Is he truly impaired?" But he didn't. I am no cop but I would not want to give a field sobriety test without solid probable cause( the smell of booze, pot, meth etc.). Giving a sobriety test to a person hit in the head by a deployed airbag is like giving one to a person hit over the head with a baseball bat or sucker punched in the face. Of course they are going to fail it because the of impact of the accident on the head. Officer Walrus did not use his enforcement power of the law properly. He did it because he had a gun and a badge. That is it. Good cops every day use proper discretion when exercising their legal powers, but Walrus ain't one of them.

Rumbly, being trained on prescription medications could have said "I am sorry sir for any inconvenience." He could have said Walrus, he is impaired due to the accident not because of any medication in his system.

DUI laws are designed to keep drunk drivers and their counterparts off the road, not law abiding citizens. I support DUI laws that are properly written and executed. Apparently the DUI charge I got was not based on a good sound DUI law because it was busted if positive, clear if negative, with no measurable standard like alcohol consumers have .08 limit. I have talked with a doctor that I know. He has stated that a lady who was the victim of an accident was hauled in. It wasn't her fault. They just hauled her in because they could. Another older man got in an accident not because of drugs, but because of being human. They arrested him also. Never had a run in with the law in his life. Both previous examples are third hand stories, but believable.

Officer Walrus and Officer Rumbly are examples of incompetent and/or rogue cops. They got a gun and a badge and damn if they ain't John Wayne! That is their attitude. The Provo City Police Department has not had a good image lately. Just Google them and you will find stories of bad conduct. Officer Walrus didn't give a damn that his arrest could impact my life for the long term. He is just doing his job right? Wrong! He should think that every ticket or arrest he gives or makes impacts someone's life. And many deserve what they get, but there are a few too many I am afraid, that don't deserve anything, because they have done nothing wrong.

Provo Police keeping society safe from the average citizen. We take them off the street so you don't have to! Other Utah County police departments have bad reputations also. Individual officers are good cops, they all have a hard job. But when they think they are the law, instead of stewards of it, they become incompetent police or even bad officers.

So I tell my tale as a warning out there. If you are in Provo, Utah and you are on medications or other lawfully taken prescription, but they can bag you for it they will. So avoid getting pulled over in the first place and avoid accidents.

Also remember this before you have interaction with the law. You don't have to answer "ANY" of their questions. And don't give them any medical history or present conditions. They are sharks and you are chum. Just do what you have to do to comply with the officers as required by law, nothing more or less.

If people don't fight back and hold cops, police departments, and prosecutors accountable for doing bad jobs, then the lines between what is criminal behavior and what is not become blurred and anyone can be arrested just for going about daily life if in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So Officer Walrus and Officer Rumbly wherever you are at this time, I pray that God protects the law abiding public from you. You two officers are the closest thing I have seen to real life Barney Fife's in my short time on this planet. That is no lie. I hope others don't have to meet you when you are policing, because frankly, you suck!

Electric Utilities Must Defy The EPA

Rarely is civil disobedience a course of action that should be taken when government agencies are running amok with regulations that threaten the very life blood of the American economy, electricity. But with the Obama machine in overdrive to shut down coal fired electric plants in a bad economy, utilities must decide what is better serving Washington or serving their customers.

In this case the latter is the responsible decision. Coal fired power plants and their owners should refuse to comply with federal regulations as it could cause an energy crisis with base loads of power dropping below demand, especially in the summer and winter and skyrocket energy costs to consumers. The EPA will levy fines and the utilities should refuse to pay. Make the EPA ask Obama to order the military in to shut down coal fired power plants and other utilities. Lets see how well that plays out?

Mines should continue to distribute coal to the power plants regardless of what Obama and his henchmen want. They should refuse to bow to the unlawful and dangerous regulations of the out of control government regulators.

States should refuse to implement and should interfere with any attempt by the Obama Administration to shut down any energy production within their borders, including coal fired power plants, and use whatever means are necessary to keep the lights on to state citizens and other customers these plants serve.

Utilities and mines should not wuss out by closing "non compliant" plants. They should not only keep them open but ramp up production to meet the needs of the people and business in spite of Obama's coercive attempts to shut them down.

Next he will be after natural gas plants and nuclear power. The President, his government, and the environmentalists are drunk with power. In my humble opinion if the President continues his crackdown on our power, it will be necessary to refuse to obey administrative rules legal or not. It will also be necessary to refuse to obey court orders state or federal that impede our ability to carry on the necessities of daily life.

We as citizens have a civil right and obligation to protect our ability to carry out activities of daily living and not have a government out of control turn off the lights to our businesses, homes, cities, and infrastructure. Obama wants to run up the power bills of everyone who will not bow to the sun god or windmill god. Enough is enough.

Martin Luther King Jr. provided us with the model of civil disobedience when all else fails. I hope it does not come to civil disobedience because that has its own costs to a nation of laws and order. But given obeying unjust laws which starve our economy, cost jobs, and cause power shortages, or disobeying these laws and keeping control of our lives, I will take the latter. It is time to take the crown away from the king.

David Letterman Target Of Jihad?

David Letterman, the liberal late night talk show host, is not liked apparently by some sympathizers of Al Qaeda. Letterman made some jokes after US drones killed a high ranking Al Qaeda leader. Now a jihad website has a poster urging followers here in the States to cut out Letterman's tongue to silence him.

Again the religion of peace rears its very violent head. Radical Islam again targets a celebrity for killing, this time Letterman. The irony of this story is that radical Islam knows no ideologies other than it's own. Liberal, conservative, centrist, they are no respecter of persons who they view as the enemies of Islam and their twisted view of the world.

Liberals are the champions of defending the people that would just as soon cut off their heads and lead them to die. Yet in spite of the overwhelming evidence, these liberals will defend the evil that is among us all and abroad under the guise of "tolerance" and "love."

At least it appears David Letterman on the stage at least understands this threat and ridicules its leaders. None of us should fear these animals regardless of politics. But we should remember that if our own ideologies blind us to reality, we may become the victims of that same reality. So with this threat to Letterman we should remember it is a threat to us all. These scum should be found and brought to justice as soon as possible. But with the anniversary of 9-11 approaching, ten years now, we must remember the war rages on against terror and radical Islam and will until our enemies see that to fight against the US is futile. As it is now we show weakness to them through our present leaders and they exploit this to their advantage. May we not forget that fateful day and protect all Americans famous and anonymous from this hideous form of Islam.

The Crossroads of A Nation

As we near the crossroads as a nation, the United States has very few choices to make. We need to take urgent action as citizens. First Problem: Marxist/Socialist Democrats. These politicians and their ilk need to be driven from power as much as possible at all levels of government, especially the Federal. These hard line ideologues need to be driven from power because they are openly, by their actions, embracing and enacting laws and policies that clearly violate the Constitution and/or are bad for a free society. When one seeks and obtains power for power's sake only they often use that power to further their own agenda while doing little to nothing for their constituents, while destroying progress, livlihoods and jobs.

Second, the establishment Republicans. These establishment types need to go. They appease to please. They are gentlemen of the political class and would rather please the opposition, than do what is best for their country. They are used car salesmen. They will sell you a car that runs, but is in the shop more than on the road.

Third, Media Cleanup. This is harder to do and takes strategy. But the elite media hate being ignored. Their control of the spread of information has slipped away and they hate this. They omit stories they should be telling front page, and push the trivial as top priority. They are the propagandists of the left. Not all media, but the alphabet types, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, The New York Times, PBS, The Washington Post.... all need to be exposed and relegated to the trash heap of news. They are more irrelevant than Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight. The way to make them irrelevant? Educate yourself about other points of view, seek the stories that are not making news, inform yourself from all sources, including the ones listed.
A public that rejects the propaganda relegates these organizations to the back over time, rendering their influence impotent.

Fourth, The Presidency. President Obama is recklessly and actions speak knowingly enacting policies that cripple America and now have resulted in the nearly collapsed economy. We are not in a recession, but a formulated depression by Obama and his allies. If we had a House of Representatives run as it should Obama would be impeached and sent over to the Senate for trial. He would likely not be convicted, but the political damage of being and impeached first term President would render him impotent politically. One term means that one term. Every person that cares needs to engage throwing out Obama through our electoral process. This man loves his power, and despises service to his countrymen. He espouses class warfare while conducting military wars he knows nothing about. He must be defeated or his recklessness may invite any number of continued downward spirals to hell, including attack on our nation by our enemies.

We must fight within the framework of American society, or face real problems at home. No military can change an out of control rebellion by force. They only make it go underground and wreak havoc from behind the scenes for a while, then they come back to try again.

I am not a nut or conspiracy theorist, but seeing states like California reduced to crap politically and continually pursuing economic suicide we cannot ignore.

Fifth and finally the border. We need a combination of tough steel fence, chain link with razorwire and guards and drones to spot and drive intruders out as best we can. Next we need to take each discovered illegal in this country and see if they deserve deportation. Unsecured borders will lead to instability with disastrous consequences. Why patrol a border with no controls and limited engagement. Time to clean poltitical house.
