Eva Lynda Tolbert, age 79, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away October 16, 2022, after a courageous 5-year fight with cancer. Lynda was born May 29, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee to Lester Earl and Kathryn Elizabeth Brigance. She graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Missouri where she was a proud member of the Kiltie Drum & Bugle Corps. Later in life she often tried to remember the drum rhythms using two knitting needles and an ottoman as she told Kiltie memories to her daughters.

She was united in marriage to Roy Willard Tolbert on August 5, 1961. They were married for 61 years. Lynda was a Registered Nurse and worked for years at the Women’s Clinic in Springfield, Missouri where she served many patients. She loved her patients and her work, and her patients loved her. She was also a life-long member of the Springfield Seventh Day Adventist Church where she considered many of the congregation great friends if not adjunct family members. Lynda was kind and loving and always up for good conversation, great stories and jokes, or competitive card games. She was a true family woman and shared wonderful relationships with her immediate family and extended family where nieces and nephews considered her a “second mother”. She spent many a summer in the 70’s and 80’s on Table Rock Lake at her parent’s mobile home park Brigance’s Showme Shores. The “Ladies of the Lake” as she, her sisters, and friends liked to call themselves, could always be found by their children by just listening for the raucous laughter from whichever screened porch they were perched. The 90’s until present were spent traveling the country in her and Roy’s motorhome with many friends and family members. Lynda loved motorhome “camping” and seeing the sights all over the United States. Lynda fiercely loved her grandchildren and enjoyed any and all time she spent with them; playing cards, bible studies, and cooking her family-famous pizza.

She was preceded in death by her father Lester E. and mother K. Elizabeth Brigance, her sister and brother-in-law Betty and Max Martin, and three nephews-in-law.

She is survived by her husband, Roy, her daughters Angela Rochelle Cunningham (James), Cynthia Tolbert Lipscomb (Justin), grandchildren James Roy Cunningham, Carile Anne Elizabeth Cunningham, and Kathryn Elizabeth Lipscomb, her sister Peggy Bales (Clyde), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Jacob’s Ladder, 2343 N. Delaware Avenue, Springfield, MO 65803.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. Following a private family graveside service there will be a memorial service held on November 5th, 6:30pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 702 S. Belview in Springfield, MO 65802.

Jane was born in Chico, California in 1936 and, while still a toddler, moved with her mother and younger sister to Springfield, Missouri to reside with her grandmother, granddad, and aunt. She grew up playing with neighborhood kids, and while she always exhibited unparalleled compassion, she could also defend herself and others. When necessary, she displayed the fiery side of her personality that earned her the nickname the “Little Black Wasp.” By the age of 5, Jane was exploring the city of Springfield. With a stack of coins in one hand and her sister’s hand in the other, she hopped on a city bus and headed to Heer’s department store to wander the aisles, lunch on the mezzanine, and take in multiple movies in a day at the Gillioz Theatre.

Jane attended Central High School, where her beauty, charisma, and talent led her to a place in the Kiltie drum corps, the lead roles in school plays, and modeling jobs with Heer’s. Her drama teacher encouraged her to continue acting on Broadway, where she was certain Jane would excel. However, Jane’s life took a different path. As a teenager, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and her close relationship with her heavenly Father began. She was unwavering in her faith, reading her Bible daily, and engaging in constant prayer. She often quoted Philippians 4:6-7, “[d]on’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything,” and she lived it as well, involving God in every aspect of her life and the life of every member of her family.

Jane married Doug Rozell on July 5, 1956 and soon they began their family. She was eager to share with anyone she met that she was blessed with four children-two girls and two boys-that she had in four and a half years. She also regularly imparted that she prayed that each of her children would be safe, healthy, happy, and “turn out well,” and she would give all the glory to God if her prayers were answered. Every time Jane received a compliment on one of her children, she recounted her prayer.

While raising her young children, Jane did not work outside the home, but she volunteered and worked in her church. Later, she worked at Lily Tulip, where she wrote for the plant newspaper, and eventually found her passion in real estate, serving the greater Springfield area as a broker for more than 30 years.
Jane’s faith was the most steadfast and unwavering component in her life. Her incredibly close relationship with the Lord was, extraordinarily, the same in good times and bad. She joined Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in her early 20s and remained a member for more than 60 years, until her death. There, she worked in the nursery, taught Vacation Bible School, and was a Sunday School teacher for decades. She was at the church for every regular service, multiple times a week, and for special events as well. She was a prayer warrior, serving as a member of the church prayer chain and spending countless hours praying, not only during the day, but any time she awoke at night, she considered it another opportunity to pray. Her faith was a comfort to her and she not only lived it so it was evident to others, but she shared it with her family, friends, and anyone she met or who crossed her path.

Jesus said that “you will know My disciples by their love.” John 13:35. Jane’s ability to love unconditionally could only have been imparted by God, as it seemed so otherworldly and unattainable by most. Jane was devoted to her children and grandchildren and never missed a dance or piano recital, ballgame, or other event in which they participated. Every action of her children and grandchildren was met with sincere praise and wonder from her. Jane’s unconditional love for them extended to their friends, some of whom considered her a surrogate mother. Even as her health was failing, she greeted those she met with the words “I love you,” “you are precious,” or even a line or two from an old Gospel Hymn.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Doug, her mother Maxine Hays, her sister, Kay Weller, her grandmother and grandfather, Ollie and Barney Cantrell, as well as her aunt, Patsy Cantrell. Jane is survived by her children, Mike Rozell and his wife, Renee, and their children and families, daughter Nichole and her husband Pat McMillan and their daughters Kennedy and Ruby, daughter Kim and her husband Johnathun Johnston, and their children Riley and Rocky, and son Daven; Sherry Rozell and daughter Alexa and her wife Samantha; Elizabeth Rozell and her husband, David Rush, and their daughter, Savannah; and, Brad Rozell and his wife, Jenny, and their daughters and families, daughter Carlee and her husband, D.J. Dietrich, and daughter Mackenzie and her husband, Christian, and their son J.J. Kirk, all of Springfield; and a host of friends and loved ones who will miss Jane’s laugh, her impish grin, and the optimism that emanated from her close walk with the Lord.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. and services will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church, 316 E Sunshine St, Springfield, MO 65807. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Sparta, Missouri.
