Whatever it is that you envision for yourself—no matter how lofty or impossible it may seem to you right now—I encourage you to begin acting as if what you would like to become is already your reality. This is a wonderful way to set into motion the forces that will collaborate with you to make your dreams come true. To activate the creative forces that lie dormant in your life, you must go to the unseen world, the world beyond your form. Here is where what doesn’t exist for you in your world of form will be created. You might think of it in this way: In form, you receive in-formation. When you move to spirit, you receive in-spiration. It is this world of inspiration that will guide you to access anything that you would like to have in your life.

What It Means to Become Inspired?

Place your thoughts on what it is you’d like to become—an artist, a musician, a computer programmer, a dentist, or whatever. In your thoughts, begin to picture yourself having the skills to do these things. No doubts. Only a knowing. Then begin acting as if these things were already your reality. As an artist, your vision allows you to draw, to visit art museums, to talk with famous artists, and to immerse yourself in the art world. In other words, you begin to act as an artist in all aspects of your life. In this way, you’re getting out in front of yourself and taking charge of your own destiny at the same time that you’re cultivating inspiration.

The more you see yourself as what you’d like to become, the more inspired you are. By having the courage to declare yourself as already being where you want to be, you will almost force yourself to act in a new, exciting, and spiritual fashion. You can also apply this principle to areas other than your chosen vocation. If you’re living a life of scarcity, and all of the nice things that many people have are not coming your way, perhaps it’s time to change your thinking and act as if what you enjoy having is already here.

Visualize the beautiful automobile that’s your dream car and paste it on your bedroom door, as well as on the refrigerator. While you’re at it, paste it on the dashboard of the car you’re now driving! Visit a showroom, sit in your car, and note the beautiful new-car aroma. Run your hands over the seats, and grip the steering wheel. Walk all around your car, appreciating the lines of it. Take your car for a test drive, and visualize that you’re entitled to drive this car, that you’re inspired by its beauty, and that it’s going to find a way into your life. In some way, somehow, this is your car. Talk to others about your love for this car. Read about it. Bring up a picture on your computer screen, and leave it there to view each time you’re near that computer.

All of this may seem silly to you, but when you become inspired and act as if what you want is already here, you’ll activate those dormant forces that will collaborate to make this your reality.Whatever it is that you envision for yourself—no matter how lofty or impossible it may seem to you right now—I encourage you to begin acting as if what you would like to become is already your reality. "Oneness with our Source is achieved by becoming like It, and Its essence is giving and sharing. Therefore, in order to know our purpose and heed our ultimate call to inspiration, we must also become a being who’s more focused on sharing than on receiving.

This Universe works on the Law of Attraction—so the more we shift the focus from our desires to wanting more for others, the richer we become. When we tell the Universe to “Gimme, gimme, gimme,” it responds in like fashion, and we find ourselves feeling put upon and out of balance. But when we ask the Universe, “How may I share?” it will ask, “How may I share with you? You are a being of sharing, and I return the same energy back to you.”

Now this may at first seem absurd, particularly if we’ve been raised on an ego consciousness that’s stressed the need to “look out for number one,” and “get what I can before someone else does.” But I assure you that when we make the transformation to a being of sharing, the question of how to become inspired will disappear. So whenever we find ourselves “wanting more,” the solution is to do more for society, for humanity, or for the environment. Any act of sharing as a response to our wants leads to feeling inspired. The fact is, it just plain feels good to do something for others.

When I completed writing The Power of Intention a couple of years ago, for instance, I had such a glorious feeling of having been guided through the writing that I wanted to express my gratitude in some way other than taking credit for it or thinking about myself. That’s when I thought of my personal editor, Joanna Pyle, who has taken my disjointed thoughts and ramblings and turned them into cohesive books for over three decades. I knew that in all of her 65 years, my friend had never known the joy of owning a new car—it simply hadn’t been a priority in her life. So I arranged for Joanna to receive a brand-new camper van as an expression of my gratitude for all of her brilliant editing, going back to the 1970s. In that single act of sharing, I received as much joy and fulfillment as I did from writing the contents of a book that consumed me for almost a year.

Understand that this isn’t necessarily about giving our possessions or money away; rather, it’s about living in the same vibrational energy as our Source and attracting that energy in each other. It’s about thinking of others before ourselves and offering the love we feel for all of life, first in our thoughts and then in our actions . . . and that’s how we make a connection to inspiration. This is because we’ve become one with our Source in thought and then action, or as Goethe puts it so perfectly, “[W]e still possess the greatest of all freedoms, the power of developing our innermost selves in harmony with the moral order of the Universe, and so winning peace at heart.” A being of sharing frequently thinks in those terms.

When we contemplate our Creator, we realize that God simply gives and imparts without demanding anything in return. We aren’t required to give to, pay homage to, or do anything for God. It’s our demands that distance us from feeling inspired—so we need to let go of them and extend ourselves in an attitude of sharing. I speak here of an inner transformation in which extending love outward is our predominant disposition. This can take the form of a silent blessing toward someone we might have previously judged, a loving greeting, a kind remark, or a thought wishing the highest good for all concerned. As simple as it sounds, this is the ultimate impetus for feeling inspired.

This is the true understanding of what life is all about.

Spiritual DNA

Modern physics explains that interactions across time and space are possible. Shamans learned to put this into practice and employed imagery to program their genetic biocomputer, selecting genes from the gene pool for health and longevity.

So imagine that you could go back in time to the moment of your conception and select the biological traits that you wish you had inherited from your mother and your father. Perhaps you would choose your father’s heart because there was no incidence of heart disease in his side of the family. Or you might select your mother’s brain because there was no Alzheimer’s in her branch of the family tree. You likely would want the trait of longevity from either of them.

You received the entirety of your genetic makeup at the moment of your conception. You also received one half of each of your parents’ genetic code. This means that, while you received 50 percent of each of your parents’ hereditary information, their genotype, you also express only some of those select traits, your phenotype.

But that is only part of the story. While you may have inherited a predisposition for either heart health or disease, your beliefs, diet, and choice of lifestyle will influence your inherited risk factors. Lifestyle modifications are often not enough, and seemingly healthy men and women can and do suffer heart attacks at a relatively young age.

So, what else can you do? You can look beyond your physical or genetic side to your spiritual side.
Ancient sages developed techniques that they believed allowed them to “journey back in time” to influence the effects of their ancestral heritage. The effectiveness of this exercise derived, at least in part, from their ability to influence the expression of their DNA. In other words, they used visualization techniques to modify genetic expression!

See, we’re not really our genes. Our genes only determine 10 percent of our destiny. We’re really our dreams. We’re really the beliefs we hold about reality, and the beauty, and courage that we engage the world with. So let’s go and reprogram our genetic destiny. Remember that every molecule in your body is changed every six to eight months. Six months from today you’re going to have a whole new body that’s going to be an identical copy of this one, but a little more wrinkled and older, or you can grow a new one. You do that by changing the instructions in your DNA, because the DNA is the hardware.

What DNA does is to manufacture protein—and we’re protein-based. We have protein bodies. But the software that instructs the hardware is the luminous energy field, and this is what shamans from every culture in the world have known. If you can upgrade the quality of the information in the field, in the blueprint, you can actually instruct your DNA to grow a new and healthy body.

It’s your spirit that provides the instructions to your DNA to create health, to create beauty, to create a strong heart, to create a strong brain, a strong mind, strong organs, a healthy body, and bringing that to the moment with each breath, knowing that you’re dreaming your world and you’re dreaming your health into being at every moment.

The Attraction of Self Love

By becoming more loving toward yourself, you will attract more of the higher, faster energies and begin to change what’s inside you. In your thoughts, cultivate an inner voice and attitude that’s 100 percent of the time for you. Imagine an aspect of yourself that only supports and loves you. You might schedule a certain time of the day when that’s the only thought that you allow yourself to pay attention to! Gradually this attitude will extend to other people even if you can only do it for a minute or two. You’ll begin to receive this energy back and ultimately be able to send thoughts of love and joy to everyone and everything in your world. Notice when your thoughts drift into the lower energy of ridicule or hate or guilt and change the thought at that very moment if at all possible. If you’re unable to change the thought, then at least love yourself for what you did do—that is, for noticing.

Make a pact to remind yourself often of this secret of not being able to give away anything you don’t have. Then work on your personal program of self-love, self-respect, and self-empowerment, and create a huge inventory of what you wish to give away.

One of the lessons I continue to learn and practice is that the universe responds with the same energy that we send out. If you attract a lot of people who wish to take advantage of you, you need to consider what you’re doing to attract victimizers into your life. If you run into anger a lot, explore the angry thoughts you have inside you. If your consciousness is a “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” energy, you’ll attract all manner of demanding energies into your life. You know if this is true by the number of deadlines not being met, demanding bosses or customers you encounter, and the feeling of being a victim. Send out “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” energy to the universe, and it will do the same in return.

If what you give are self-respect and self-love, the universe, via the attractor energy, will return the love and respect you’ve been radiating. It’s really so simple. You can’t give away what you don’t have.

This may come as a surprise to you, but failure is an illusion. No one ever fails at anything. Everything you do produces a result. If you’re trying to learn how to catch a football and someone throws it to you and you drop it, you haven’t failed. You simply produced a result. The real question is what you do with the results that you produce. Do you leave, and moan about being a football failure, or do you say, “Throw it again,” until ultimately you’re catching footballs? Failure is a judgment. It’s just an opinion. It comes from your fears, which can be eliminated by love. Love for yourself. Love for what you do. Love for others. Love for your planet. When you have love within you, fear cannot survive. Think of the message in this ancient wisdom: “Fear knocked at the door. Love answered and no one was there.”

That music that you hear inside of you urging you to take risks and follow your dreams is your intuitive connection to the purpose in your heart since birth. Be enthusiastic about all that you do. Have that passion with the awareness that the word enthusiasm literally means “the God (enthos) within (iasm).” The passion that you feel is God inside of you beckoning you to take the risk and be your own person.

I’ve found that perceived risks are not risky at all once you transcend your fears and let love and self-respect in. When you produce a result that others laugh at, you’re also stirred to laughter. The poet Rudyard Kipling declared, “If you can meet triumph and disaster, and treat those two impostors just the same . . . yours is the earth and everything that’s in it.” The key word here is impostors. They’re not real. They exist only in the minds of people.

Follow your right brain, listening to how you feel, and play your own unique brand of music. You won’t have to fear anything or anyone, and you’ll never experience that terror of lying on your deathbed someday, saying, “What if my whole life has been wrong?” Your invisible companion on your right shoulder will prod you each and every time you’re moving away from your purpose. It makes you aware of your music. So listen—and don’t die with that music still in you.

Our body is made up of chemicals, far too many for me to elaborate here, but some of them are iron, magnesium, calcium, nitrogen, hydrogen… and on and on goes the list. These chemicals are part of a finite supply here on Earth, so what flows through our veins is part of that finite supply. To that end, the iron that’s in our blood was once somewhere else—perhaps in a dinosaur, in the body of Jesus, or in a mountain in Afghanistan—and now it’s in our body. And when we leave our body, our iron supply will reside someplace else on Earth as a part of that finite supply. In other words, our entire planet is made up of the exact same chemicals that constitute our physical makeup. Chemically speaking, there’s no difference between humans and rocks, trees, orangutans, or distant stars—grind them all up and their chemical composition isn’t what distinguishes one from the other. Our physical presence is a spiritually directed conglomeration of a hodgepodge of chemicals, and the end result is that we’re beings made up of the same stuff that makes up the stars. We’re made up of stardust. That’s right, the stuff of dreams—twinkling, magical, beautiful, light-filled stardust!

Remember that the Spirit from which we originated can create anything, including worlds, so why would it choose ugly or unattractive creations? We’re here in the perfect body for our time in this incarnation, and it’s a living, breathing miracle in every way. It’s guided and being directed by an invisible Force that directs everything and everyone in the Universe: It beats our heart, digests our food, circulates our blood, grows our hair, and repairs our cuts and bruises, all independent of our opinions.

I wrote earlier about being independent of the opinions of others. Well, we aren’t beautiful or attractive because of how we stack up against a runway model—we’re beautiful because we came from beauty, so we must be the same as what we came from. All labels such as unattractive, ugly, homely, and unbecoming (as well as pretty, attractive, handsome, and beautiful) are judgments designed to compare one person to another using artificial standards set up by ego-dominated people and organizations.

Living in-Spirit means that we see our body with all of its unique characteristics and feel thankful for the perfect temple that’s temporarily housing our true “primary existence.” If it’s short or tall, bald or hairy, stumpy or slender, extend loving appreciation to it every day. If it can’t see or hear, resides in a wheelchair or a hospital bed, has crooked teeth or only three toes—whatever—love this collection of stardust! A prayerful thought might go like this: I think of my body as a piece of the eternal, an individualized expression of God. I live in-Spirit, inspired because I’m the same as the loving energy that created me, which is perfect.

Think about the logic of what I’m saying here. Obviously we can’t live a life of inspiration if the physical shell we take with us everywhere is perceived as anything other than a Divine, perfect creation. Our attitude toward our body, along with how we feed and exercise it, must match up with Spirit. We came from love, so we must extend that love and appreciation to our body at all times in order to be genuinely inspired.

The Power of Procrastination and its Friend Fear

Fear is an emotion that has to be dealt with. Procrastination is another one. You will never know if your idea works until you try it by putting it into action. Action moves the idea forward, which is the beginning of the idea, that can move the mountain of fear.

JUST DO IT! Watch it all come together you are the machine that moves the engine the gas comes from your mind then let Spirit take over. You will be the winner.

When I do workshops or teach class. Some people will whisper on the side lines to someone. This is the most annoying action a person can make. People pay to come and listen and this action takes the energy from all the people into a place of not paying attention because of the disturbing nuisance. Please think of the person doing the lecture and give them your complete attention. How can you learn if you are talking and not taking in the complete understanding of what the person is saying. Bring what you are saying forward and you will be surprised at what you have said when others do not agree with you.

A Letter About Being Young at Heart from Hay House CEO

I want you to read a heart felt letter from a friend who just wrote me...

"Hello Barbara,

I was recently listening to a song by Luke Bryan called Most People Are Good. I love the title of this song. It’s something I truly believe.

We all hear and see so many negative things on the news and in newspapers. Sometimes, it’s hard to remember that most people are good and want to help their family and others live a better life.

There are several other good lines in the song such as…

'I believe kids oughta stay kids as long as they can, turn off the screen, go climb a tree, get dirt on their hands.'

To me this is the biggest thing many kids miss out on these days, because they are constantly on their electronic devices. Even if they are outside, they are often still staring at screens. I personally love it when I am out in nature without a cell signal!

'I believe we gotta forgive and make amends, 'cause nobody gets a second chance to make new old friends.'

This is so true! It’s completely impossible to make a new old friend, although sometimes a new friend can feel like an old friend when you truly connect with them. Such a great feeling to have.

'I believe that youth is spent well on the young, 'cause wisdom in your teens would be a lot less fun.'

I always tell my kids—Dane and Ava, who are now 18 and 16—when you get older, you are going to realize that may not have been the greatest decision! But this line in the song is still so true.

Looking back at my youth, I now realize that many of my big lessons happened while doing things my parents tried to help me avoid. I guess we all need to let our kids make more mistakes… although, that’s a tough reality to accept.

'I believe if you just go by the nightly news, your faith in all mankind would be the first thing you lose.'

I wish there was a way to get more positivity in the national media so that people could have more hope. I guess that’s why we have so many people listening to Hay House Radio!

Let’s spend this week focusing on all the wonderful, positive things we have in our lives and remember… most people (truly) are good.

Empaths and Psychic Vampires

"By now, you probably know whether or not you’re an empath. And believe me, this matters a lot! Why? Because if you are an empath, you are the favored prey of energy vampires. Energy vampires…what are they?

As a good empath, it is easy for you to believe the best about others. Everyone is pure at heart. Everyone is born good. This can seem true… but in reality, there are certain people in our midst who lack the capacity to think in such loving terms. Energy vampires often give themselves away by saying things such as “I don’t care” when asked about others and their problems. Energy vampires have one thing in mind… themselves. Their main mission is to prop up their ego, and they will do it in every way possible.

Their favorite way? Finding lovely, helpful empaths who stroke their egos and shine the floodlight of loving attention on their lives. Energy vampires have mastered attention-getting. They do it so well, you won’t always know they are in a bid for your attention. Your solution? Trust your instincts and your well-honed intuition.

How to spot an energy vampire? Energy vampires are often charming, good-looking, charismatic, and outgoing. They often have hypnotic eyes that draw you in to whatever they are saying. They may hold high positions in government, business, religion, the military, and medicine. Think CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Or prominent political figure. Charismatic vampires tend to surround themselves with followers who hang on their every word. These minions often do the bidding of the vampire, just like the flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. These are aggressive energy vampires."

Then we will have passive energy vampires. They portray themselves as victims. Empaths again will seek to aid those in need, they just have to be careful of only helping those who want to help themselves. Many passive vampires will seek out attention by playing the victim.

They seek out listeners who will feel their pain. Empaths who are naturally happy people may make the mistake to offer guidance to these passive vampires; for they know they would not want to always feel that way themselves. They will try to make the passive vampire as happy as they feel by suggesting ways and paths the passive vampire can try to reverse what they perceive as the pain they feel. After many years of having a passive vampire as a friend they will notice that the passive vampire has not grown or very little and still has a daily or weekly catastrophe. An empath will feel drained after the conversation and the passive vampire will be skipping away after the conversation with new found energy.

No matter how much advice an empath may offer, the passive energy vampire will never listen. They only wait for their turn to speak again. They will interrupt the empath or the other in the conversation because it is too important for them not to forget what is on their mind by waiting for their turn to speak. At times you will find a passive energy vampire by their inability to think that speaking to you for a half hour and only letting you ad a nod, a yep, or oh into the conversation is normal and fair to you.

Conversation means to verse or talk with someone, not at. Same with dialogue: two people talking. The passive emotional vampire may or may not know this, but they will be compelled to talk at you and talk over you if you try to speak. Their emotions always will override you or even just the truth of logic.

You can spot them on the street. They are the ones who are dying to make contact with anyone and will tell you their horrible life story within the first 5 minutes of you knowing them. you can just feel the dark cloud around them.

In relationships the aggressive energy vampire is very affront in his actions to hurt you and the passive energy vampire is very subtle. The first will eviscerate you emotionally once lured in and the passive will do the same, but will just creep up on you. Together the aggressive strikes first and the passive waits to spring its revenge. The aggressive feels attacked when it was actually trying to be kind and attacks again in revenge. The cycle goes on and gets destructive. The phrase, "Who is the slayer, who is the victim? Speak!" fits this relationship. So both will seek empaths and those who feel very little like those with Aspergers Syndrome.

"When you’re looking at your relationships and your interactions with someone whom you suspect to be an aggressive energy vampire, look for the use of these common manipulation tactics: Being aggressive or covertly aggressive to get their own way. The need to always “win.” They won’t take “no” for an answer, and if you try to resist, they wear you down until you give up. Lies that portray them in the best light, no matter what the situation—or their real part in it. Blaming others for their own hurtful actions. Laying on guilt trips in order to make you feel bad. "

When you're looking at your relationships and interactions with someone whom you suspect to be a passive energy vampire, look for the use of these common manipulation tactics: always sharing their pain, not listening, talking over you, always in trouble, sharing with others what they told you in strict confidence, latching from one person to another, they make you feel like your walking on eggshells, always taking actions to keep them in a depressed or dangerous state, and they do not like things to get better or worse in their life, and they are very draining.

Getting attention from someone with an energy vampire’s qualities can be flattering at first, especially if you are not used to it. This person likes me? Not so fast. Energy vampires are never really interested in us. They are interested in how you make them feel, while they are plugging into and draining your energy. That’s right…energy vampires thrive by stealing your energy.

Empaths can transform negative energy quicker than others. They are also very highly looked upon in the community, if they know it or not. They have an invisible shine that can be felt by others. They tend to have great self respect and natural talents. People are drawn to them. There is a lot to feed on for an energy vampire. Why does People Magazine or the like want to rip Tom Cruise apart instead the homeless guy on Fifth and Main Streets? Because Tom Cruise has more energy to steal from. Empaths are like the Tom Cruises to the energy vampires. Empaths have lots of energy, they transfer negative emotions quick, and fill up quicker once drained.

I call the energy they drain from us their “narcissistic supply.” Energy vampires are thrilled when you admire, fawn over and spend your time occupied with their life and problems. Finally, someone who gets how important they are! The trouble is… they’re a bottomless pit, and no matter how hard you try, you can never solve their issues for real. Energy vampires are great at creating problems, and they are only interested in the appearance of wanting solutions when it jeopardizes their narcissistic supply.

That is, if you are threatening to take yourself away from them, they’ll do just about anything to make you stay. Never believe an energy vampire when they promise they will change. “Change” is simply not in their playbook.
