Unlike American citizens who are confined to AT&T and the same phone but named HTC Aria, the UK public have a choice of network provider.

Review

HTC Gratia Review

As standard and what we have come to expect from HTC is the excellent HTC Sense interface. The user interface provides a clear, lively and vivid experience. With this interface installed by default your home screen welcomes you with a large analogue clock and local weather information, which I can assure you will become a familiar and welcomed contribution to the handset. If these are not to your taste, the phone can be customised through a variety of widgets, shortcuts and wallpapers. Populate the 7 scrollable screens with ease making this phone truly your own. Pressing on the home key or performing the ‘pinching’ gesture takes you to an overview of your 7 screens; allowing you to choose the appropriate one you want to view, tap to access.

Social networking has become an integral feature within smartphones, websites and across the board, the Android based HTC Gratia is no exception to this and comes integrated with Facebook, Twitter as well as many more options available through the marketplace. Cleverly even the internal phonebook can be customised to connect with Facebook and display updates such as statuses and birthdays.

The HTC Gratia is a phone of solid integrity, it is built and designed to a high standard. The Gratia is strangely light in respect to other recent productions, coming in at just 115g. Sizing wise this handset measures 104 x 58 mm and a mere 11.7 in thickness, so its not the smallest handset, but by no means as big as its predecessors such as HTC Desire.

The majority of the screen as you might expect is occupied by the 3.2” TFT capacitive touch screen display, which by no means is something to write home about in comparison to some of larger offerings from HTC. Gratia has a resultion of 320×480, again nothing fantastic, FYI: you should have no issues watching YouTube videos.
On a positive note this phone does display a respectable 256k colours which for a phone is all most should need.

The handset like many of the touchscreen devices of late has the ability to rotate when turned on its side, making the phone particularly useful when tapping out text messages, emails and web browsing. Another cool feature is one named ‘flip to silent’, you turn the phone onto its front and the handset will detect this and mute the calls and text messages.

HTC have kept with there trackpad in the Gratia and models produced before her, this option is handy when precision is required. The trackpad has good sensitivity and makes some aspects of using this phone simpler.

From a multimedia point, the HTC Gratia comes packed with a 5 megapixel camera capable of detecting a face, auto focus and geo tagging options. You can also record in VGA quality, while not the best quality it was an effective alternative and both the photos and videos came out better than I had initially expected. All of your favourite media can be played on this phone via the stock media player or pick up one from the Android Marketplace (I personally don’t like the default one), WinAmp is a good alternative. For your convenience any standard 3.5 mm socket headphones can be connected to this phone.

HTC Gratia Specifications
This phone is relatively well equipped with 512 MB of onboard storage space, 384 MB working memory (R.A.M) and a slot for upgrading the memory via microSD. The HTC Gratia comes with the full connectivity package including mobile internet HSDPA, WiFi modes B & G, Bluetooth and connectivity via the supplied usb cable.

The HTC Gratia comes with Google Android 2.2 codenamed Froyo and is in line to be upgraded to version 2.3 in due time. HTC’s newest recruit is capable of multitasking and I believe could handle most of the stuff you would expect a phone like the Desire or Desire HD to handle, just don’t expect it to sing and dance.

In conclusion, the HTC Gratia is in itself more than capable phone from HTC, as usual. This would make a great first smartphone, if you know someone looking to upgrade and try out the Android operating system or something by HTC. Sense makes the whole user experience for the person looking to get their first mobile phone simple and haste free. I consider this to be one of the core benefits of choosing the Gratia as a first phone or your next upgrade. You don’t ‘need’ to do much with it for it to be useful and functionality can be explored at a later date.

Video Review

HTC Gratia Video Review

With thanks to MobileGazette

Specs

HTC Gratia Specs

* Google Android 2.2 Froyo OS
* 3.2 Inch H VGA Touchscreen
* 600 MHz CPU
* 900 – 2100 HSPA – WCDMA
* WiFi B and G
* Bluetooth 2.0
* MicroUSB Port (Data transfer & Charge)
* 3.5mm Headphone Socket
* Optical Trackpad (Mouse)
* 384 MB RAM
* 512 MB ROM (Internal Storage)
* G-Sensor
* 5 Megapixel Camera
* Digital Compass
* Ambient Light Sensor
* MicroSD Card Slot (for memory upgrade)

User Reviews

HTC Gratia User Review

TBA.

Free Mobile

Free HTC Gratia

Currently there are no offers with free mobile for the HTC Gratia.

Auto CashBack

HTC Gratia with Automatic Cashback

Currently there are no offers with auto cashback for the HTC Gratia.

Free Gifts

HTC Gratia with FREE Gifts

Currently there are no offers with free gifts for the HTC Gratia.

PAYG

HTC Gratia on Pay As You Go

Amazon: TBA

Accessories

HTC Gratia Accessories

Amazon.co.uk Widgets

<script type="text/javascript"

Sony Ericsson have caught the imagination of the smartphone market and bring to the table many years of experience in mobile phones, technology and related industry, these attributes together have given Sony Ericsson slick, initiative design, cutting edge functionality and usability. Kicking off their Android range was the successful Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the flagship Android handset. Released at around the same time was the X10 mini and mini pro, all three devices crafted to suit different niches within the mobile phone industry. The Xperia X8 comes with a 3 inch capacitive touch screen display, capable of showing up to 16 million colours at 320×480 pixels resolution. This phone comes like many Android devices with an accelerometer which allows the display to rotate between portrait and landscape modes. Android 1.6 comes preinstalled, while this is not the latest version (2.2 Froyo at time of writing), this will be upgradeable during 2011. Timescape comes preloaded with all Sony Ericson phones packing Android, this is their custom interface which had a clear user interface and is visually pleasing to use. Timescape can bring in your social media contacts, messages and photographs merging them into one central place, along with your messages and emails. Timescape is easily accessible from the home screen. At times Timescape may seem slow, when loading, the animations between changes can be a little long and frustrating. Without these animations, I feel it would take away from the experience of this phone frustratingly.

Android smartphones offer the user a wide variety of connectivity options, helping to keep you connected at home, at work and on the go. The phone is quad band, meaning it can be used at home and abroad in many countries. The X8 has full HSDPA, GPRS and EDGE mobile Internet access as well as WiFi, Bluetooth and connectivity through microUSB via Personal computer.

The Sony Ericson X8 comes with a 3.2 Megapixel camera which is capable of recording VGA video and provides support for geotagging, meaning you can record the exact location details when taking snaps, really handy if you take lots of pictures. A hidden jem is the built in FM radio, when you have exausted your music collection. You also have a media player which supports both audio and video playback and outputs through a standard 3.5 mm headphone socket. The internal memory is just 128Mb, quite measly compared to many other handsets internal storage capacity, this can be expanded through installation of a Micro SD memory card up to 16Gb of storage for all of your music, video and app files. The X8 comes with a powerful 600Mhz processor, capable of many demanding tasks but not as speedy as devices such as the HTC Desire.

Interestingly Sony Ericson has released this phone in a wide variety of vibrant colours and colour combinations (mainly mixed with white) including: White, Dark Blue/White, Aqua Blue/White, Pink/White and Silver/White. One of the best things about owning an Android handset is the practically limitless options available to you through the Android Market and Sony Ericsons market. Installed by default you have old favortates like Google Maps, Facebook and Youtube. There are literally thousands of other applications just waiting for you and with so many more people joining Android daily both users and developers the pool is growing rapidly.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is an all round strong handset, providing good performance, providing the user functions which are unique and easy to get to grips with while complementing the existing Sony Ericsson range of devices and adding value to the brand. Should they continue to produce high quality devices like the X8 then I have no doubt that they will see their fortunes made once again in this highly competitive smartphone industry.

Video Review

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Video Review

With thanks to Phone Arena.com

Specs

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Specs

* 3-inch capacitive touchscreen
* 320×480 H VGA resolution
* UMTS HSPA MHz & UMTS HSPA
* GSM GPRS/EDGE
* 600MHz micro processor
* 3.2-megapixel camera with video recording capability.
* Upload direct to Facebook
* Geo-tagging
* Bluetooth in stereo
* wiFi B and G
* AGSP
* 3.5mm headset jack
* Micro USB connector
* 1200mAh internal battery
* 128MB of internal memory
* support for up to 16GB via microSD upgrade card
* Google Android 1.6 with Sony Ericssons Timescape UI
* Google Services preinstalled: Gmail, Calendar, Latitude, Maps, Search, Talk
* YouTube
* Social networking support for Facebook and Twitter (can add more)
* Available in Colours: white, dark blue/white, aqua blue/white, pink/white, silver/white
* Easily changeable covers
* Size: 99 x 54 x 15 mm
* Weight: 104g

User Reviews

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 User Review

Reviewed by: David from UK in December 2010
Like the Curates Egg it is great in many parts. Its small, meaning it fits in my pocket easily. The Android update to 2.1 is now available to download and I’ve installed it on my X8. I really got this handset for Google mail on the move and it works perfectly. This mail app is easily changed for the normal mail found on the home screen and works really well. I find the dialling app clunky and not user friendly. For example: If you select a wrong contact to call or text from the phones address book, when you come out of the contact window you are back at the address book homepage *frustrating*. As of yet No voice dial support. I also find managing the contacts list a pain in the backside. Also why does “Sony Ericsson PC Companion” not permit us to manipulate it on a P C or sync with Microsoft Outlook?
All in all, the phone is great value for what I paid, which was £25 for 100 minutes, 500 texts and 500 megabytes of data usage, Pretty Good going.

Free Mobile

Free Sony Ericsson Xperia X8

Auto CashBack

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 with Automatic Cashback

Free Gifts

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 with FREE Gifts

Currently there are no offers with free gifts for the Sony X8.

PAYG

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 on Pay As You Go

Accessories

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Accessories

Amazon.co.uk Widgets

<script type="text/javascript"

The AMOLED capacitive display is another great addition to the “mid” C series, providing a bright screen even in daylight conditions.
Sadly there is no such thing as a perfect phone and with most of the current devices focused almost solely on multimedia functionality; the very average fixed focus camera which comes with the C7 is not anything to write home about. Still, the camera provides 8 mega pixel, meaning that it will capture large photographs. Such a poor quality camera does however leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Main characteristics of the model are:
•	You will be able to use your new phone anywhere in the world with its full support for GSM and 3rd generation networks.
•	The processor and memory will be enough for almost all tasks you would want completed, from Internet browsing to in car SatNav, while multi tasking other applications.
•	Thickness is 10.5mm, impressive enough, even if not the thinnest on the market
•	3.5” AMOLED 16 million colors display, one of the best in the industry will allow great visibility both indoors and out on the sun.
•	8MP fixed focus camera, with the ability to capture 720p HD video, 25fps. Applications on this phone also support geotagging and face recognition.
•	It is smartphone, so it has operating system – Symbian 3 OS. Even though it looks little old fashioned compared to the iOS and Android phones, it shares many of the functions which have propelled both of the named operating systems to stardom in recent years.
•	A-GPS assisted GPS receiver. You also receive a life long subscription to Nokia OVI Maps voice navigation suite. Which is the first I have seen. The subscription means you get fully a functional satnav device, till the phone dies or Nokia go bust.
•	The phone supports multimedia formats DivX and XviD allowing you to watch movies on your Nokia.
•	Flash and JAVA support for the phones web browser. A huge advantage over the S60’s Lite versions of flash ‘FlashLite’, it will allow you to watch popular video sharing sites YouTube amongst others.
•	Stereo FM RDS radio is integrated, so you will be able to listen to radio stations. Unlike many other phones, this one comes with an FM transmitter integrated within, allowing you to transmit audio to your cars stereo system wirelessly.
•	Various other little useful advantages, such as a massive 8GB of onboard storage space, support for Stereo Bluetooth v3.0 and voice commands are all popular features of this handset.

The packaging of Nokia C7 doesn’t look great. Inside all that is included, is a charger, the USB data cable, instruction manual and the headphones. The contents following a minimalist trend set by other manufacturers.

Would a set of headphones really hurt?

The new contender on the market of smartphone operation systems, Symbian 3 which is all-round a more refined device than all of its predecessors, with many customisations available on the user interface. This phone is the first step forward for Nokia in a while.
On the “phone” side of Nokia C7, it is a functional handset complete with phone book, excellent sound quality, very good reception, receptiveness, clarity what more can you ask for?
The Internet browser is great, just one annoyance so far – no auto text size correction. On the other hand, full flash support is something which we still do not see in the most popular smartphone manufacturer’s devices yet.
The integrated mail client is simple, packing plenty of functionality, Applications such as Facebook and Skype are ready to go out of the box.
Overall C7 is great successor to the C6, don’t let the lack of hardware QWERTY keyboard put you off if your in the market to upgrade. It may not be the right phone for the hobbyist photographer, or the app’tastic device both Apple and Android have, but it is for anyone used to Nokia handsets, anyone after a reasonable and reliable handset and those stuck for choice. One piece of advice: if you have little more cash, look at getting the Nokia N8.

User Reviews

User Review Nokia C7

Reviewed by:Ken on 08/12/2010

I brought the C7 recently, at the moment i am pretty pleased with the handset and the new os from Nokia symbian^3, it is much better than the previous version on the Nokia c6 which i absolutely hated and took back within my 14 day cooling off period, which was lucky as i thought i might be lumbered with it! I am much happier with this new C7 and it was well worth the wait. FYI: this phone is not anything like apples iphone 4, in retrospect it doesn’t come with the hefty price tag though!
Pros:
- a new Symbian v3 Operating system. Responds quicker; speedier. A massive difference from the previous model OS
- has 8Gb of internal storage and you can upgrade it! I don’t really think ill ever need more than this, there is no need for micro sd
- AmoLED is so clear for both pictures and video. amazing clarity
- Capacitive touch screen display, is quick and accurate.
- I love the fact there is a setting which allows you to type in alphanumeric keypad style or fell qwerty! Makes moving from a normal keypad way easier for banging out text messages, for me at least!
- 8mp camera, many smartphones are much less mega pixels than this (cough: iPhone 4)
- colour is cool! Love the brownness makes it unique and classy looking compared to all those generic black ones.
- strong casing and body, c6 looks cheap compared to this one and the c6 used to scratch loads. not the c7!
- weight is less than the c6 which used to pull my trousers down sometimes.
- mine came with a case made of ‘genuine leather’ amazing! saves me time looking for another case to satisfy my OCD!

Cons:
- finger prints linger on the screen, i have to keep wiping the screen all the time, which is getting annoying. only a minor issue though
- its not up to the same standard as the iPhone4, I want one.. i just cant afford it.

As I have only had the phone for a short while (less than 1 week), Ive not had a chance to check out all features on the phone but I am learning to love this little phone.

Video Review

Video Review of LG Optimus 7

Thanks to PhoneArena.com @ youtube

Specs

Nokia C7 Specs

# 3.5-inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen display
# LG’s hardware is coupled with Microsoft’s newest mobile operating system Windows Phone 7.

This new handset is yet another smart phone in an already extremely competitive market, don’t you think?

<script type="text/javascript"

It is similar in design to the LG Optimus 7Q [read review] in many ways. The Optimus 7 has no physical keyboard, but boasts a full QWERTY touch screen which is a pleasure on the fingers.

Microsoft set out some minimum specs a phone needs to have in order to run their mobile operating system, the Optimus 7 meets all of the minimum criteria, exceeding on some but not by anything spectacular. The Optimus 7 features internal storage capacity of 16GB. Unfortunately this storage cannot be expanded, this is far greater than the standard memories included with many of the Android devices (but not Apples iPhone 4 which comes in 16 and 32Gb models).

Camera

The camera is a standard 5 mega pixel, auto focus, led flash. Its pretty basic, the LED flash works well and is quite effective. The camera has no optical zoom and the digital zoom as with most, is nearing useless as it distorts the quality of the images.

Connectivity

New smart phones in order to survive with such competitive trading conditions will need to host as many connectivity options as physically possible.
This handset does just that and is also quad band meaning Worldwide compatibility. The phone supports mobile internet technologies such as EDGE, GSM and HSDPA and supports the full connectivity package including WiFi, Bluetooth and USB data connection.
Overall, the network and connectivity features of the mobile phone seem quite decent.
LG E900 Optimus 7 – the Look

Looks

Optimus 7 by LG is drop-dead gorgeous, the addition of WP7 makes it truly irresistible. The look coupled with clear and user centric display features will make it one of the most sought after handsets and possibly the most popular Windows Phone 7 handset to date. The face of this phone is covered by a beautiful touch screen display. Towards the bottom of the screen, one will find the physical touch sensitive navigational keys. The keys feature the famous Windows logo (centre), back (left) and search (right) LG have placed there branding on the top and rear of the handset.

Display

I was taken back by the clarity of the display and Microsoft’s simple colour scheme which just seems right. The display screen is TFT capacitive touch screen and sized 3.8 inches diagonally. The 3.8 Inch screen is 480×800 pixels and can display 16 million colours (more than the human eye can differentiate between). The best parts of the display for me are the included accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate (which is becoming a standard feature for smart phones across the board), multi touch input (great for zoom). Because of the high resolution playing movies and gaming on this phone is a pleasure. Obviously the screen is still quite small compared to others on the market but still a good experience when travelling etc.

Memory

Ensuring there is enough memory for all of your applications, music and files has been something I believe LG have incorporated very well into this handset. Users have a fixed internal memory of 16Gb (which can not be upgraded).
The E900 comes with 512MB of RAM which should be plenty for your needs.

Camera / Multimedia

Cameras have become an important part of the decision making process when purchasing a new phone. The LG Optimus 7 comes with a pretty good camera capable of capturing 5 mega pixel images which can also be geo tagged! Video recording is in high definition 720p, which is higher than average for a phone of its class. The LG Optimus has an LED flash which is fine in dim light but useless at night (like most other LED equip handsets).

LG E900
Besides the camera, there are other multimedia features of this phone including a multimedia player (audio and video), which turns out to be a good general player plays the common file types such as MP3/ WAV/ WMA/ eAAC+/ MP4/ H.264/ H.263/ WMV files. With the internal storage you have plenty of space to store all of your favourite artists and a movie or two.

Overall, LG E900 Optimus 7 is set to be a strong contender to other Windows Phone 7 devices. As the first phone released by LG it will no doubt form the basis for comparison in the future. I am very impressed with Windows Phone 7 and expect to see more from them in the future, Im not 100% certain this handset does the OS complete justice at the moment. They have released the most Android enabled smartphones this year and it looks as though if they had there way they would be the sole manufacturer supporting the platform!

Close up HTC Desire Z

The HTC Desire Z has the same OS as the Desire HD and is fairly similar. There main differences being the physical fold out QWERTY keyboard (which folds out on a hinged system) and slightly smaller display. The keyboard comes with a track pad making the navigation a bit easier, the keyboard itself comes in at 119 x 60.4 x 14.6mm making it a pretty handy phone and easy to compose a quick email or text message. Physically the Desire Z is heavier than the HD due mainly to the sterdy feeling keyboard.

HTC Desire Z keyboard

Rounding the Desire Z up, I am not as impressed with the Z as I was the HD although I do like its size and the keyboard is a real bonus to phone users who might want to go HTC but are put off by the sheer size of the phone and the lack of any physical keyboard or keypad.

HTC have come a long way and I believe we can expect to see more great developments from them in the coming months. I would especially watch out over the Christmas and New Year period as they maybe launching yet another product (it would’nt supprise me they churn them out like cats do kittens.. this one like the HTC Wildfire is the runt of the litter)

Video Review

Video review of HTC Desire Z

Thanks to stuffmagazine @ youtube

Specifications

HTC Desire Z Specs

* 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display
* 480 x 800 pixel resolution
* 1Ghz processor
* Android 2.2
* Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
* Bluetooth
* 3G Mobile Internet
* Wi-Fi A/B/G
* Standard 3.5mm headphone jack
* MicroSD card slot up to 32Gb
* GPS
* Internal Accelerometer

Free Mobile

Auto CashBack

Free Gifts

PAYG

Accessories
Amazon.co.uk Widgets

<script type="text/javascript"
